Daggerfall House Containers

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 1:04 pm

So I recently bought a really awesome 900,000g house in the city of Daggerfall, and it seems to have come with some working item containers. That is, all of the boxes, cabinets and drawers in the house can be opened up to reveal a selection of items.

This intrigued me because no other house I had ever bought had come with working containers, so I saved my game and tried to remove an item from my inventory and place it in a box. Well, the item was removed from my inventory, but it didn't appear in the box's inventory. In fact, no item I put in the box seemed to appear in there. Rather, the box just seemed to be eating all of my items.

So I loaded a save file I had made in the house just minutes before and I got all my items back. But then when I tried to click on the containers, they didn't work any more (as in, no inventory screen opened or anything). So I left the house, and when I came back in I could open the containers again - but they still ate any items I put in them.

Anyway, following this experience I decided to dig around on the UESP to see if this is a common bug, but I wasn't able to find any information about it. So now I'm going to ask the Daggerfall veterans on the Bethesda forums here: what's the deal with these house containers?

That must be a bug related to a feature that was not implemented. If you check UESP on furniture shops and house decoration you might find better info on this.

I've looked around, but I still can't find anything on UESP. I am getting the feeling that this is just a half-complete gameplay feature, but I still wonder if it's more complicated than that. Does no one have any info on this strange phenomenon?

I usually just drop stuff on the floor inside my ship for storage. You could just drop stuff in a closet if your house has one.

I read somwhere on the UESP that the house containers worked but that they would lose items in them if you traveled out of the city. Also they were supost to be disabled in a patch. Thats all i know, ive never found containers in houses in my version of dagger, i have a small house

I was a bit wrong, heres the page on UESP

Oh, ok. Thanks for the link. It's too bad they never finished this feature, I thought it was pretty cool when my house came with working cupboards and dressers.
