Daggerfall issues.

I installed Daggerfall, took me a bit but I got it.

I forget how to start the game through dosbox.

Also, for some reason I get really low framerate indoors, like in houses.

From the UESP Wiki:

* Download DOSBox and install it.
* Create the directory which will store your DOS game files.
* Open DOSBox's configuration file:
o In Windows navigate to Start > Programs > DOSBox 0.73 > Configuration > Edit configuration.
o In Linux run the following in a terminal: dosbox -editconf xdg-open.
o In Mac OS X run the following in a terminal: open -a TextEdit ~/Library/Preferences/DOSBox\ 0.73\ Preferences.
* Make the following changes changes to the configuration:
o Under [dosbox], change memsize=16 to memsize=32.
o When you want to play Battlespire or Redguard set memsize=63.
o Scroll to the bottom and add the following lines after [autoexec]:

@echo off
mount c "C:\Documents\DOS" (that's your daggerfall directory) -freesize 1000
mount d D:\ -t cdrom -ioctl (that's your dfcd directory)
c:

*
o If you have an LCD monitor, you may wish to scroll up to [render] and change aspect=false to aspect=true.
o If desired, change fullscreen=false to fullscreen=true under [sdl].
* Save the file and run DOSBox.

* In Windows, extract DFInstall.zip to C:\Documents\DOS.
* In DOSBox, start the installer: C:\dfcd\install.
o Agree to the license.
o Choose "Install the game to your hard drive".
o Accept the install size.
o Accept the installation directory.
o Install. Wait.
* Configure sound:
o Choose "Select digital" and choose "SoundBlaster 16/AWE32"; set port to 220, DMA to 1 and IRQ to 7. Test if desired, then choose "OK".
o Choose "Select MIDI" and choose "MPU-401" at port 330. Test if desired, then choose "OK".
o Choose "OK" to quit the sound configuration utility.
* Still in DOSBox, run dag213.exe to apply the patch; answer yes to both prompts.
* Contrary to the installer's instructions, run Daggerfall by typing fall z.cfg.

The last step is pretty much unnecessary. If you configure autoexec to mount DFCD simultaneously with C:\dagger, you can run by just typing dagger.

There's a detailed guide on YouTube. Search for "Daggerfall installation" and redo the steps, if necessary, one by one.

Type "fall z.cfg" instead of "dagger" then.

Increase the CPU cycles by pressing CTRL+F12 multiple times. Otherwise, you may set the cycles directly in the cfg file (assuming you're not using a frontend such as D-fend - and if you aren't you should really get it - which lets you set them in the game configuration)

Hey, I've just downloaded and installed Daggerfall. It works smoothly except for the fact that I can't seem to attack. This results in me getting slain by the very first rat I come across, every single time I've tried so far. I don't know what's wrong, especially considering there are no other control-issues.

Sorry for posting in this thread even though it's not related, but it seemed pointless to start up another thread...

Assuming you didn't change your controls, press F, right click and drag your mouse to any direction.

Thanks! Still getting my head around the controls though... it'll take some getting used to.

Have you changed the controls? If you have, what part is still weird/difficult for you?

I haven't changed a thing about them, I've just not played a lot of old rpg's. I suppose that's what's making it a bit awkward to play :) :shrug: Perhaps I should just re-arrange/mess around with the controls a bit.
