So I've been playing Daggerfall a bit lately (but not as much as Morrowind) and I've run into a problem:

I like to use WASD for movement, and have mouselook active, because the funky system that's on by default kills my reflexes.

The problem is that when I set up Daggerfall to use mouselook, some of my other hotkeys - like casting spells - don't work at all. I just get a flicker of my spell menu and then nothing. Turning mouselook off gives me full spell access. Any advice on getting around this?

As in casting a spell, I assume that ya press the "Cast Spell" Button to bring up the list. From there, just double click the spell ya want to use. If it involving using destruction spell like Shock, it would say "Press the button to fire spell" or something like that. Using the mouselook, one have to aim at the foe, usually on front of ya with the center as the invisible crosshair. Press the fire button, which is really the "Activate Center Object" Button.
