Daggerfall: Lockpicking (AGI or INT) ?

Post » Sun Oct 31, 2010 9:55 am

Hi all,

Small question about the lockpicking skill.
In the original Daggerfall User's Guide it says that lockpinking is an Agility (AGI) based skill.
But in the game it says that it's Intelligence (INT) based. I asume that the game is right and that
it's a (INT) based skill. But I've search a bit on the internet and came to the conclusion that
a lot of guides/faqs say that its AGI based. Are they all wrong?

So is there anyone who knows?

It's intelligence, the skill table is a miss print as even the description for intelligence says it helps improve lockpicking.

But the sound it makes is oh-so-satisfying.

*SHA-CLICK* The lock clicks open.

I think it should be Agility so my thief won't need to have much intel. He is not a clever Argonian.

You're right. A true master thief can disarm and incapacitate a fully-locked door with their bare fists. :ninja:

I find bashing locks is usually quite easy. I find using Open spells on them is another matter. Some of those magically-held locks are really hard to open and my character is pretty good with magic.

I have two items of (oh, how do they name the ones that seem to be intended to get you into ANYTHING), yet I've not been able to use them to successfully open a single door. WTF? (back to bashing, thanks..)

I've found the items of "Undeniable Access" to be fairly effective.

That's what I was looking for..

So, is it possible that the effectiveness relies on your character's (mysticism?) skill at all? I mean, they don't explain whether it's touch or target (like in Morrowind and later), but I've only used them on doors I'm standing in front of, and never have they unlocked/opened a locked door of any sort.

/forehead slap/

So, I figured out what the problem is. Since whenever I'm in dungeon, I'm in "steal" mode, I'm trying to open the door after using the (religious symbol of undeniable access) the same way I lockpick. Apparently, that's a no-no. Must change to "dialogue" mode to open the door after using "open" magic. Of course, there have still been a few times where the spell effect has failed, which makes little sense, but at least I know what I'm doing now..

Well if that thief don't know jack, that lock's not gonna crack.
