Daggerfall nudity patch?

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 3:10 am

Hey all, so I just started playing Daggerfall really for the first time, it's amazing! I realized from the character generation that it was more detailed, but that was just getting my feet wet ;)
But I'm just wondering is there a mod or something that makes people have permanent underclothes? This computer is in the middle of the house, and very visible, and idk if there's any nvde npc's running around, like in Morrowind's Bloodmoon lol. I would feel a lot better about playing it on this computer if the nudity was gone.

There's a child safe switch thingy you can turn on during the game install.

:o
Didn't see that... Is that the only place it's at? I mean, I can't activate it in the game at all?

I assume the install is the only place to fix it.

http://www.svatopluk.com/xroads/illnvde.html really shows pretty much all of the nudity ingame, which most is pretty severely pixilated. WARNING: NSFW (Or in your case, with people around)

And http://www.svatopluk.com/xroads/dfnudity.html has tips for avoiding bare-chested creatures (No pictures in this link)

Also note that the child-safe thing only removes bloody bodies and adds underwear to the player character. Nudity on creatures is still visible.

If the child-guard thing turns off the blood and corpses then what do you get for visual cues in combat? Bone dust?

Basically there's barely any nudity at all. I doubt your mum would freak out .

Worse: blue sparks.
And instead of bloody corpses you get piles of bones

erhm... Actually she thinks bikini's are bad -_- basically, any boobage at all... anything "sixy" she thinks is a temptation or something, idk... Nuts if you ask me. I could go on forever talking on this subject but I won't ;)

Considering the blood goes away with the child safe version, that really wouldn't work out for me... I love to watch people's blood :) kinda freaky, reflecting no it, but it just makes the game that much better. I guess I'll have to play the game in windowed mode, like I have been, and just minimize it when anybody gets close enough to really see the screen.

Reminds me of my dad getting all uptight about the nudity in Duke Nukem 3D when I was 13. There's so little nudity in that game. He was also upset about the violence. He never actually stopped us from playing it; he just whined about it sometimes. His reaction to FPS games was more positive when he saw me building maps for them. Duke3D had a similar mode you could set to make it more appealing to parents. The password for this mode was in the config file. :D

Anyway, your solution seems somewhat workable. You can hear nymphs coming in dungeons. They laugh like annoying teenage girls. All of these nvde creatures seem to die easily when you have a good weapon too, so you don't see much of them unless you're trying.

That's what you get for attacking armed adventurers without protection!

You would have noted that D-Fall carry's a M-17 rating.

Admittedly, as is the fault with all rating systems, if it was re-rated, the pixelated blood etc would most likely bring the rating down drastically. Compare the blood in that to another M-rated game and likely it will look laughable. The nudity thing is annoying in D-Fall -- for example in TESIV, you can only see nudity by going through a mod. D-Fall can surprise it on you, like just before i wandered around an inn and found a fully naked (albeit 2dimensional swivelling) NPC on the floor.

Its that type of thing that is really annoying when you dont expect anything like that, so I understand your quandry. Basically, the easiest solution is to avoiding playing altogether and go with something safer ie Oblivion. Can't speak on Morrowind, never played it.

If you really want to play D-Fall, I guess you will have to follow the guidelines in the link Imperfect put above. Annoying though that you have to make a dash through the inn bashing alt-tab though. :(

Amusing that naked briasts are in any way "unsafe".

ehm. Yeah, most game's I play have an M rating. I happen to be 17. March I'll be 18.

I already knew that it had nudity, I wasn't sure how much though. The only problem with playing something 'safer' like Oblivion, is this computer can hardly play Morrowind ;) Morrowind I'm lucky if i get 20fps, but generally it's 15 or lower.

It's not as much of an issue as I thought it would be, considering I run it in DOSBox, the window is fairly small, and It's easy to switch to my internet browser and continue there lol.

@Dr. Memory. Well, it is Unsafe when your whole family thinks nudity in movies or games... pretty much anytime unless your married to that person and having relations with them, is bad. Which I disagree in. But it is generally "safer" to have permanent underwear when your gaming area is constantly walked around.

So, nudity is always evil out of wedlock?

So, if you have to go to the bathroom, does your mom make you get married first? lol, jk

Yes, it is. People have strange, illogical ideas, but it's hard to start a culture war with your family when you're only 17. They tend to have the power to take things away unless you've become very self-sufficient. I like starting those sorts of cultural fights with my family, even though they are extremely liberal and permissive by most standards. When I was 17 I had to tread much more carefully, though. I also have to be a little more careful now that I'm in school again and don't have a job atm. Can't have them throwing me out. :)

His concern is quite understandable in that context, especially if he doesn't like starting arguments. His possession of such an old computer is less so. How do people get anything done with such old computers? I have a laptop from 2002 that can barely run Morrowind and even browsing the web on it is painful, despite it having a very light OS install.

Computers cost $$$$$$.

And, especially if you're in high school where computers are usually provided in class and the most processor-taxing homework you get is an essay, a high-end computer is more or less an expensive toy.

What's high end? For $AU780 you get a 14", 1GB graphics, 4GB ram, 500GB laptop. Cheap. As technology expands rapidly, things get cheaper. You can probably pick up a 512MB graphics / 4GB ram pc for less than that now. Don't know where you guys are, though, but still.....

If by highend you mean a powerful beast of a desktop, well for $25,000 I believe you can get the most environmental killing piece of electronics known to man.

Still, it doesn't solve the original problem. :(

Unless you can (ironically enough) get a better graphics game like Oblivion running, than you're looking at alt-tabbing a lot. :(

That's the irony. You would think with better graphics they would try and get all racy and provocative but they didn't. The underwear looks like advlt diapers.

That's why there're no toilets in Oblivion.

Oh, believe me, I remember what it was like to live at home. And I won't bore you with the doctrine I was born into. I feel for Kyle and do not suggest he start any battles he has no chance of winning. I do suggest, however, that he stays out of Suran. ;)

But makes up for bunch of hanging and rotting corpses in the Oblivion.

Do slaves count? If yes, avoid all slaver caves.

Always amazes me how nudity is often considered to be less acceptable on games or movies than violence. Personally I find the concept of one human being taking anothers life by impaling them on a sharpened piece of metal to be far worse than someone not covering themselves in a thin piece of fabric.

Not a dig at your family's views, OP... more a reflection on society in general.

EDIT: Despite how my first paragraph sounds, I am not a pacifist. Or a nudist...
