I'm doing a quest for the Order of the Scarab in which I'm supposed to kill the leader of a group of orcs. The place I was told to go (a ruin) has two dungeons. One with an entrance in a mound like most dungeons, and one that looks more like a doorway. I've explored both ab bit, and they're really big. I don't want to go through the trouble of exploring one, not finding the orc I'm supposed to kill, then having to explore the other one. So, could anyone tell me which one is most likely the right dungeon?
The number of entrances to a dungeon is usually irrelevant, because you'll end up at exactly the same place. And yes, Daggerfall's dungeons are usually huge and take a lot to explore: you may want to follow some "rules" of exploration such as
- the left-wall way (following the wall on your left until you come at a dead end, then you start following the right wall)
- keep an eye for changing wall patterns (it helps you to keep an orientation)
- ALWAYS bring a teleport spell and anchor it directly in front of the exit, so you'll be able to recall whenever you need to
- for some quests, monsters you're supposed to kill spawn if you rest/loiter outside the dungeon, at least this happens with the giant-killing quest for the fighter's guild (don't know if this is the case as well)
- the map can be hard to navigate, but you can usually see which paths you didn't explore and therefore helps backtracking - remember, though, that it gets resetted everytime you exit and get back in
- if you're desperate, use the cheatmode and [ or ] to navigate through quest locations, but be careful because if the quest object is a monster (and in this case it is) you'll spawn INSIDE him
EDIT: I'm sure this is not your case, but
never ever play Daggerfall either under native Windows XP or by using VDMSound or anything else other than DOSBox; you'll most likely experience the infamous "invisible bug" which completely breaks the game and makes most quests impossible to complete.
