Daggerfall Question

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:52 am

Been playing this game on and off since it's release.
It always calls me back .... I'll start playing a new game and say to myself...
this doesn't compare to Daggerfall...

My question concerns the signs inside the entrances to walled cities.
They sometimes say things like...

"Any members of the Isolationists will be persecuted to the full extent of the law"

Now if I happen to be a member of the stated faction, will I be accosted by guards or imprisoned?
(I realize most of these factions are not joinable)

Also, is there a list anywhere detailing all the factions and their affiliations?
It would be nice to know who the "Isolationists" really are and what they represent.

Well, I could talk Daggerfall all night so I'll spare everyone that pain.
Thanks.

Sir Magnus Lyonbane
Breton Knight.

PS - Isn't Chesterwark, Daggerfall the best?
Just out of Privateer's Hold (2 days?)
New PC can pick up some nice Dwarven gear at the shops.

I believe that "The Isolationists" are a subgroup of The Mages Guild. In my experience, I have occasionally seen references to political allegiances with certain nations on these signs - since it is not possible to actually ally oneself with a nation, I'd warrant that this is leftover from the original idea of having shifting political allegiances.

I have never actually seen any such sign which bears the name of a guild of which I am a member, but I will hazard a guess that the guards would not harrass you. As for a list of factions and their affiliations, try a Daggerfall save game editor - most of them have lists of factions, their allies and their enemies (which change quite often, I believe).

I don't remember the name of the tool, but there was a tool that ran from a command-line and would display all of the factions in-game, their position towards you, and some other data. You could pipe that output to a text file and browse through it in Notepad or Wordpad and see everything, but I haven't a clue where you'd find it today. Maybe it's on one of my old Linux file-servers. If I can dig it up I'll put it online for you.

*EDIT*

Don't know why I didn't think of it right away, but the UESP has all kinds of editors and such. I would recommend "DFHack v3", because the others seem to be flaky in XP, and may damage your saved game. I just tested DaggeD, DF-Edit2, DFHack v3, and DFItem, and only the latter two worked properly. You really only need DFHack, because it allows you to edit items in your save if you wanted to do so, but it DOES have a nice list on the reputation tab containing every faction in the game, your standing with them, and their allies and enemies. This is a Windows program, and it runs fine in XP.

I couldn't agree more. Daggerfall and Darklands are my favourite RPGs. I enjoy reading about Daggerfall on this forum, so please post your thoughts, comments, opinions, they are welcome :-)

This could have just been flavor test for the isolationists. I don't think there's any faction you can join named them, or if there's references to it in dfhack, it's probably a thing that was scrapped from the game.

Or it might just mean you're isolating yourself from the world for more than 3 hours...

I've seen this sort of edict before, but I'm pretty sure it was for a different faction. I think it's just one of those things to add flavor--or possibly was meant for something more robust, such as war and changing political movements, that was planned but never fully implemented.
