Daggerfall questions.

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 2:24 am

The randomize quests and such kinda put me off of the game but I decided I will try to give the randomness charm a chance as many users seem to enjoy Daggerfall for it, both the good and the bad.

I know the controls enough where I can jump/run/duck and generally get where I want to go. I only completed the first dungeon once and that with the ebony dagger given to me as a gift.

I have a few questions:

1. Is there a sneak mode or do it work automatically? I been assuming that sound/armor and/or boots/movement/lighting effect it, otherwise it work automatically but it never hurts to ask.

2. Be honest, are mages are even really possible while being a newbie? It seem like the spell point thing is kinda off and I notice spells have something like 9/9 near their name. Is there a limit to how many casts you can do from that spell book or something? The UESP wasn't very helpful with explaining the system beside listing the spells under each category.

3. Is there like a mod or a version of the game that is more causal with less risk taking? I not asking to start off with a full ebony set on the floor in front of me or even the dagger, I just asking for a starting dungeon that feel more like a starting dungeon. =P

Also do anyone even mod Daggerfall actively like Morrowind or is it just a dead cult-following game for the most part?

1. Sneak checks are made automatically (even when you run) but there's better chance to succeed when you move slowly (look at settings to find/set an exact key for it).

2. A mage without basic fighting skills/equipment whatsoever has no chance to survive, at least in the beginning. You can make him ridiculously powerful through extensive training, but that takes time, and you have to survive the starting dungeon before you travel to the city where you can start to be picky about more suitable assignments.

Spells have their magnitude (which calculates as X + Y*Level points of effect) and spell cost (which gradually decreases as you improve your magic skill). You can cast as much of any spell in your spellbook as your mana pool allows, after which you'll have to rest/replenish.

3. Never heard of it. Mods that are in UESP Download section or can be reached on sites mentioned there are pretty much it, with possible minor exception. Despite multiple efforts at proving otherwise, Daggerfall was not a modding-friendly game like Morrowind and those after that.

There are a couple of files dated 2011 there, and also there are Playable Orcs and prosttutes Guild in works mentioned on this forum, but not much else.

Thanks for the answers. I guess I will play as a warrior until I get used to it.

You can take a Battlemage class who already has one weapon skill in prime, which is quite enough.

Actually, doesn't setting your reflexes as low make the game somewhat easier?

It just make the monsters slightly slower so lag/bad mouse don't get you killed. It balance out by moving that exp dagger thing against you. I was told that it was so minor though that you better off playing it on low if you feel like it could help you out. I play it on low personally so I can enjoy the game and play more tactically.

A new question from me though, how do you buy wagons? I thought you get them from general stores but I don't see a choice for it. Can anyone explain in detail where to click and such?

All of any shops wares, including horses and wagons, will be on the shelves located in the shop. The owner of the shop will give you a sell, repair etc option, but to buy the owners wares you need to click on the shelves in his shop. I do believe it is general stores that have the horses and wagons. May need to check a shelf or two, or scroll down to find one but a wagon and horse should show up in the list.

Many thanks.

I am currently in the process of selling my junk that the general store wouldn't take and finding all of the shops/guilds in the town of Daggerfall. I see that there like 5+ taverns in a single town, kinda weird but it is quite big and dangerous at night, I almost died from an archer as soon as I got in. A bed only cost me like 4gp so it wasn't to bad.

Sorry for double post but how do you find the person for the Thieves guild quest? UESP say that you can ask NPCs about the person but the choice nor the name is listed as far as I can tell.

You need to be recognized as a thief, that is, pickpocket a lot. Doing it in cities is rather risky *and* unrewarding... but you can pickpocket monsters in dungeons as well. Just catch a monster that is stuck in a doorframe, and you've got an unlimited training dummy. When you score a sufficient pickpocketing history, you'll get a letter explaining what you must do.

I already did all of that. I pickpocket only rats and bats.

I found out how to find people after messing around...I always thought the "People..." choice was unclickable due to the color. For some reason I always thought it was that color because you have to "unlock" that choice first or something.
