Daggerfall redone?

Post » Mon Mar 15, 2010 2:28 pm

Well, after playing a bit with Mount & Blade, I am pretty sure Daggerfall could be presented as a mod using that engine. I'd say more than half the work is already done for a team who is proficient in Python and with artistic talent also.

An interesting base engine, but the question remains if anybody WANTS to remake Daggerfall. It's great as it is, and there's just so much that would have to be done (especially the random dungeons and all) that would probably be a headache.

Yeah, The first time I got on a horse in Mount & Blade and travelled around I immediately thought of Daggerfall, I can see where you're coming from. The only problem is the Daggerfall source code is supposed to be lost. Daggerfall doesn't really need a remake IMO, Its depth can outshine the old graphics. I would still like to see it attempted though, as long as nothing gets dumbed down.

well there would heck be alot of land to code and other stuff. best things would be to just use the already finished game and update the textures and what not.

I wish the code was around, if only to restore much of what was promised.

I'm sure it isnt lost. Im becoming a game developer and making games, so I can look into it myself and tell you all the truth.

And THAT is no rumor. ;)

Based on...what, exactly? (Decompiling it isn't the same.)

We know Bethesda can be (or used to be) a bit...sloppy. I wouldn't put it past them. Their inability to answer this rumor and general attempts to almost never reference Daggerfall only give me more reason to believe it's true. :(

One month? Two month?

More about one year of full time development, at least! ;)

IMO there are two possibilities. #1 is they just wanted us to think they lost the code to reduce the number of requests about repairing it; quite possible IMO, and those who were there back in '96 haunting the Bethesda forum on CompuServe would know what I'm talking about. #2 is that they did in fact lose it, which is also quite possible. We can't know the truth.
