Daggerfall/Senteniel?

Post » Sun Apr 24, 2011 7:41 am

There's good news too if your interest in the Elder Scrolls dates back to 1996 and Daggerfall: Howard would love to treat elements of the second instalment to a makeover. "I'd like to see the city of Daggerfall redone, or Sentinel. Daggerfall should be on a giant bluff, overlooking the Iliac Bay, and we just couldn't pull it off well then."

From the OXM UK article. I find it very strange that Todd Howard would bring this up when talking about Skyrim. Is it possible they are going to remake this region for an expansion pack? Normally, I'd be against that sort of thing because we've seen it before, but everything in Daggerfall was flat and repetitive and looked the same, so if any place were to be seen a second time, I wouldn't mind it being that. It's probably not though, because then that's subtley giving spoilers if they were planning on it. I don't know, could there be another reason? Or is Todd Howard just daydreaming in his interview? What do you think?

One of my since-buried threads was about having High Rock as expansion material. Everyone loves expansions, and it's really the only fitting place to choose based on a number of factors. I'd love to see High Rock, personally. It'd fit well, and for once I'd like to go between provinces in a single game. We have already seen High Rock through Daggerfall, but I think that gaming has evolved more than enough to provide a completely new experience. I don't think anything made now can compare to a game that old experience-wise. And given that it has to scale with Skyrim, it'd be not only much smaller than the game Daggerfall, but about the same size relative to Skyrim as Shivering Isles was to Oblivion and Bloodmoon was to Morrowind. It just has more cities than both of them combined...

Yeah, that's the biggest issues. Despite being apretty small place (relative to Skyrim, I know they can be any size Beth chooses in it's own game!) it still has 8 cities in it, and undoubtedly many towns. All of Daggerfall would be too much. Having the Iliac Bay region might work, or maybe that bay at the top that leads into Orsinium, and have some good reason why we can only go to a small region of this province. Maybe have Orsinium be it's own 'hold' or similar now.

Sorry, didn't know, I hadn't seen any threads on it yet. Should we revert to using your thread for the discussion?

I would love to go back to the Iliac bay. i would rather all the continents to have their own game though.

However, I want to go back to Morrowind's mainland (which we've never really experienced, except arena)... I would rather THAT be the expansion for Skyrim

Hm.. we have already seen a lot of Morrowind. And the mainland is unlikely to be more than Vvardenfell mixed with Cyrodiil and Skyrim.

I think parts of Hammerfell would be fantastic, something we've never experienced before (except in very low detail in Redguard) and which could be very interesting and unique. If only I were more skilled at modding I would want to do at least a city in the Dragontail mountains or something. Oh well... 8 more months til release. I could improve.

No, it's okay. Mine is in the "Past Elder Scrolls Games" forum. This one will be noticed more.
I would just like to mention my Skyrim mod that will attempt to add as much of High Rock as possible. (mentioned on my topic)

Yeah I also thought of it being a DLC when I saw him mention it. Probably only a certain city/area, since it seems they don't do full expansions anymore. :(

I was talking with my friend about the same thing thought that remake of Arena and/or Daggerfall would be great.
Just some enhances to the graphics (not much, just to make it more appealing to the eye) and a bit to the gameplay (so you don't have to play Arena with the mouse for example) and that it runs on windows properly.

I wasn't talking about remaking Daggerfall. I was talking about recreating the locations in Daggerfall within the game of Skyrim. I definitely don't think Bethesda would remake the entire game.

There is DaggerXL or something like that. It enhances the graphics and gameplay I think.

High Rock would be amazing. My current character hails from there, and she would love to show me her old home.

Is that a mod or a whole new game?

Because I wanted to play Daggerfall and downloaded Dosbox to do it, but it's mysteriously not woking properly. The keys aren't even all doing as they should.

It certainly seems possible; re-creating a relatively small new playable area wouldn't be a problem, when that new area is a city (or part of a city), despite the open world. Bethesda could hardly have created the rest of Morrowind for the Tribunal expansion, yet being restricted to Mournhold worked fine.

And a unique, yet recognisable city environment might be exactly the kind of DLC we'll want, as a refreshing counterpart to Skyrim's rugged wilderness.

DaggerXL is a new engine that reinterprets the Daggerfall data. It's still very early in development. I would stick to dosbox for now.

I think they should add in 2 expansion packs.... High Rock which will have the entire daggerfell map in it..... And the second will have the entire Hammerfell in it.... The reason why I don't just want daggerfell even though i wouldn't mind it.... I want it to be connected be land and i want to tele their from the world map...

The reason i think they might have announced this early is because they are basically 100% done and their starting to work on daggerfell now....

Um, do you really think it's plauible for them to release 2 expansion packs that each alone would have about as much content as the entire original game?

Why not? Because Skyrim alone is 4,5 years in development and still not finished. Yes, I realize that it wouldnt take that long to make the expansions, but still a healthy 2-3 years would be uses for expansions with THAT size.

Not sure wether you realize this or not but alot of time probably went into coding... its a whole new engine too, and the Isles where the same size as Cyrodill...

Daggerfall/Sentinel could be a city-expansion-pack. Like Tribunal for Morrowind, which was a really really good expansion btw.

Would be really cool to see High Rock though...
But I think they should save that for a whole game. They've never done a whole province for an expansion, and probably never will. It's... just too much for an expansion-pack. It would take too much time.
