Magic is really useful. Make sure you get a Teleport spell such as Recall, and set a Teleport Anchor inside each dungeon, by the entrance. This will save you from having to find your way out of the maze-like dungeons. (remember that Teleporting deletes the Anchor!) Levitate, Water Breathing, and Buoyancy are extremely helpful as well.

Get the highest-quality weapons ASAP. There are certain monsters that can only be hit by weapons of a certain type or better (harpies, for instance, require Dwarven or better). Once you have Mithril, you can hit everything in the game.

When fighting at close range, it's best to sort of dance around your opponent, or back up after each time you attack. If done right, you can win a fight without taking any damage. Of course, a high Speed score helps with this. Most importantly, DO NOT let the spiders or scorpions hit you. Ever. Their attack can and will paralyse you, and unless you have magic to cure or resist it, paralysis means death.

Oh, and don't go outdoors at night in Daggerfall City unless you like being attacked by angry ghosts.

Ok got it I basically made my own class the test said I should be a bard but I decided to just make the usual for me lately an that's a Templar all the skills/advantages ect. Put my skill advancement right at the border of difficult though still being in average.. I have no idea what I'm doing and knowing the game is randomly generated makes it all the more difficult 64,000 miles if I recall might be way off it might be some 15,000..still.. that's a lot of exploring! I kinda took your advice in paralysis as it's deadly in morrowind as well (hate being knocked down and watching the enemy chop away) all my knowledge from previous ES titles is not going to be helpful at all so it's really diving deep into the unknown.. I like it. Anyway I believe the mark? Spell and anchor is in alteration? Might be wrong.. Well here I go wish me luck. I will be making a topic about my adventures in all of tamriel if anybody wants to bother reading the ramblings of a Breton Templar risking life and limb for I don't know yet lol.. Anyway I typed way too much grammar errors are everywhere and I doubt anybody will read this. Later peeplees!

Happy hunting,

Squire

Teleport (mark and recall are one spell in this game) is a Mysticism spell. The other spells I mentioned are Alteration.

http://www.tesguides.com/tes2/ is IMO the single most useful resource for a first playthrough of Daggerfall

You don't need to 'own' a spell to use it in the spell maker, so you can make a custom 'recall' spell for yourself right off the bat. Make yourself a heal and cure, and a combo water walking/water breathing spell as well. Water walking means you walk _through_ the water, not on top of it, but it's still a lot more convenient than swimming. Make a minimum open spell as well. That will be 100% effective on exterior locks in towns. Even if you don't go thieving it's good to be able to get into your guild halls early or late sometimes.

I keep notes on what towns have what shops and star the ones that are good to sell at. The worse quality the store, the better prices you will get.

When you walk into a town, talk to a peasant. In the questions, all the types of stores that town has will be listed for you. If you go under regional, you'll see all the temples that 'country' has, and can ask what towns they are in.

Make a save _before_ you accept a quest, and don't save over it until the quest is done. Sometimes a quest just bugs out and can't be completed. If you don't want to eat the loss, restart from the save and get a new quest.

ALT-F11 takes you back to the last item you interacted with (this should work even without cheat codes enabled). Very useful for getting out of 'the void'.

Buy ships at capital cities (I've never found a 'port' city to buy one in).

You've already rolled your character, but I tanked my luck and personality to 10 and haven't missed either one of them. Maybe I find a little less high end stuff, but I've found a bunch of orcish gear (which is supposed to be super rare) and am finding daedric, both in dungeons and shops.

If you're playing a templar, look around the different countries that have knightly orders first, then decide which one you want to join. You can only be a member of one. You can also be a member of a temple knightly order - that counts as a temple membership, not a 'knight' membership.
