Daggerfall: Veteran Tips for Beginners

Okay, a couple questions.

How is Encumberance calculated? For some reason I am around 90/110 encumberance, wearing only leather armor, a bow, sword, and 60 arrows. Even when I remove ALL my items, I still have at least 60 encumberance!

And the second question is a followup, is there a simple way to change the weight of some items? For instance, if I wanted arrows to weigh far less?

You indeed have too much gold. It's time to visit a bank! Either deposit your gold there or exchange it for a letter of credit. (I personally prefer to leave the gold at the bank and keep around 1500 for minor expenses)

As for the second question, I doubt there's a way to do that.

I had an eureka moment and figured that out. Turns out 30k is pretty heavy! Though I found that the bank seems to say 'You dont have enough money" after depositing more than 25k or so. But I deposited the rest as letters of credit, somehow. I'm just afraid to keep letters around and drop/sell them by accident. How do they work exactly?

Whenever you sell stuff, and you would get back more gold than you could carry, the shopkeeper gives you a letter of credit instead. So if you never visit a bank, you can end up with a mixture of letters of credit and coin. And I'm not sure how easy it is to lose a letter of credit, since I have the same fear you do, and tend to deposit them regularly.

I'm not sure what you mean. You've got more stuff in your wagon than you can carry? That's what it's there for. If you want to put something from your wagon into your inventory, just click "wagon", look for it, click "remove" and click the item. Now its in your inventory. If you've got too much in your inventory, put some other stuff into your wagon, or maybe go to the bank and unload your gold.

If you just plain want to sell the stuff, just click "wagon" while you're in the selling menu, and you'll be able to access your wagon stuff directly.

I meant Ihad too much stuff to carry so I put it in my wagon, and the wagon appears a sa chest in the dungeon.. As soon as I leave the dungeon my stuff in the wagon vanishes.

You click the Wagon button in your inventory to access it when outside or when selling.

When you are in a dungeon hit the dungeon door, then click yes when it asks "Do you want to access your wagon and stay inside the dungeon?". Then hit the wagon icon in the upper right to go to your wagon (otherwise it will just drop your stuff on the ground). Then use the "Remove" feature to take stuff out or put stuff into the wagon.

When you are in a shop on the other hand, you can access the wagon without having to go outside. So go into the shop, grab what you need from the wagon, sell it, repeat.

Now I have a question ^^ can you put gold in your wagon? Or should I hit the bank? Im at 20k gold, I am gaining it faster from quests/dungeon crawls than I can possibly use on training, weapons and spellmaking, so I need a way to stash it.

Nope, you'll have to hit the bank if you want to free up some encumbrance. You can leave it in your account and come back later or have them convert it to a letter of credit (for a 1% fee, of course).

FYI, 20k gold is about 50 kg in game. Hoarding lots of gold really eats up your weight limit!

Hey. Is this a glitch?
The dark brotherhood sends me on very fighter's guildish missions... like a 'go kill an animal that got into the shop' sort of thing....
Is that how the DB missions are at first?

I have a simple question: how do i change magnitude of spells in spellmaker?
I tried to make a heal spell, but pressing "plus" button to raise magnitude, does nothing.

Actually, i can't change anything at all in Spellmaker, not Duration, not Chance, nor Magnitude, nothing

Also, is it normal for NPC's that are supposed to give quests to just dissapear or not be there at all? (guess for Buggerfall it is normal :) )

Okay, so I made a vanilla Nord barbarian and joined the Knights of the Dragon. I'm level 2, and I was sent on my first dungeon crawl to find some orc mercenary in a castle.

Everything was going pretty well until I stumbled across a ridiculously powerful enemy. I tried like 20 times to kill him, and the one time I managed to hit him before he one-shotted me it told me that my elven mace was ineffective.

I looked him up ( http://www.uesp.net/dagger/monsters/dfmonst.shtml ) and it turns out he's a [censored] ancient vampire! What is he doing in my level 2 dungeon? Is this normal? And, is there any easy way to kill him with cheats or something?

Most importantly, how do I stop this from happening again?

This happened to me too. I would say it's not unusual.

There is no easy way to kill him, in fact, you don't need to kill him. What would you do if you encounter something really powerful? You run, that's what.

There is no way to stop this from happening. It's not very common at lower levels, but if you do encounter it again you just run away. Someday you'll get your revenge.

Running for your life seems the most acceptable solution in this very unlucky situation.
An Ancient Vampire is nothing a level 2 character should try to face, they eat whole army of level 2 characters for breakfast.

If there are no other way in the dungeon to find your Orc target without coming in front of this Ancient Vampire, you should just run out of this dungeon and wait some days until the point you have failed the quest.

Failing a house/faction/guild quest is not that a problem, thy will give other ones, at least you should have a lot more chances not meeting again such a monster.

It appeared as a chest? You didn't put it in your wagon. You dropped it on the ground.

This happened with me too. I went to rest and the dungeon randomly generated a vampire. I managed to sent it down a elevator and out of my way. Then a bit later I went to rest again and it sent a ancient vampire after me. I reloaded... and THEEEEN I had to avoid a WHOLE section of the dungeon because it had TWO ancient vampires in it. Thankfully the quest objective wans't there but far away somewhere else.

I was level 2.
