Daggerfall: Veteran Tips for Beginners

Once you're in, head over to the spell maker and make that low powered "open" spell. Not only can you now open any door in the city, you can head back to the inn and spam your open spell. Check the cost for your Recall spell (or a custom teleport spell, since I hear that's cheaper than the default one) periodically. At some point, the cost may go down to 30, or perhaps even less..

Ah, so increasing my illusion stat will make recall spell cheaper?

I've already joined the mages guild, and created the recall spell (used the teleport affect).

Thanks :) I'll try that out - spam locked doors

No. Increasing your mysticism skill will make recall cheaper.

Thanks :) I'll try that out - spam locked doors

Actually, you don't even need doors to do this. Just cast it, and hit recast really fast to drain your magic out. It's not like in Oblivion, where you have to have a valid target in order to gain skill.

Heck, destruction is even easier to raise; you don't even need to spend magic points. Just cast, cancel, cast, cancel...

All the quests seem really hard... I can't get a guild quest I can handle, and just recently I signed on for one which looked easy enough (getting research from someone), but then discovered at the last minute that necromancers were involved, and then suddenly that if I didn't bring the research the the Dark Brotherhood that they'd be going after me too. I'm only level 5, and can't seem to hit anything with my ranged spells (they just sort of pass through everything). Also, since I refused to do so many impossible quests the mages guild hates me.

I am really enjoying Daggerfall! I've decided to start over again though. I initially picked a warrior and now I'm experimenting with magic trying various characters in the Privateer's Hold.

A couple of questions. Each time I create a Breton character, I get two ebony daggers. Is this normal? As a result, with dual wielding, this character is tougher than my warrior was. Not that I'm complaining :D

Also, I vaguely recall someone mentioning that immunity to magic was broken in some way. Is this true? Does anyone know what is wrong with it?

Thanks!

just another question, what kinds of spells are the best? I've been using a frostbolt spell for a while, but it doesn't seem to do anything other than go through things. Also, magic in general seems to be somewhat unreliable.

Did you take Spell-absorbtion as an Advantage?

no, unfortunately. I just sort of stuck with 3x magicka just to play it safe. It just sort of seems wierd when spells just work ok 1/4 the time I cast them. Could be enemy willpower saves, but still.

Well. I learned that if you take General Spell-Absorbtion, then make yourself spells that damage health at target area, then cast them close enough to you, you'll absorb the spell and regain all the magick lost on the spell. Infinite spell-casting!

*threads again into this topic*

I feel stupid everytime I post in this thread, it's like asking obvious questions!

Anyway,

1) Apart from saving up for ships/houses, what else can I do with my money? I mean, yeah, the obvious answer is to buy weapons/armour, but the weapons/armour in shops is always inferior to the ones I find in the dungeons - ALWAYS.

2) Lady Ber told me to go to Wayrest, Daggerfall and the other city and meet with the nobles. I went to the Daggerfall City and spoke to the king, but he's just giving me short quests to complete. I can't speak to the queen (nothing happens when I 'activate' her). I'm just trying to continue on the main quest

3) Some names for some good towns and dungeons? A town where I can find lots of stuff, and eventful dungeons. Still Level 3 mind you , but I'm still quite a good fighter (no fighting against some ancient liches though :P).

EDIT: Gatekeeper, I've got a cart and it's the same as a wagon. I guess maybe a wagon holds more stuff?

1. Ya can use the money to buy some Training (if ya guild offer it)! Also there enchanted stuff from the Mage Guild, granted if ya a member and a decent rank in the Guild.

2. Daggerfall-wise, talk to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Cyndassa for her quest to start for Daggerfall. Also, ya can wait until ya get a letter from Wayrest or the Sentinel and start the main quest there.

Raise your Luck if you want better gear. I've been seeing Daedric weaponry in shops, and Adamantium on enemies in dungeons.

Heh.

When you buy it, it's a wagon.

When you put stuff in it, it's a wagon.

When you ride it, it's a cart.

:icecream:

And the hilarious thing is, you can ride your wagon (cart!) even if you don't have a horse for it.

never sell silver armor pieces unless you have duplicates. This is the hardest armor to find a complete set of.

This is hard to do, and a thankless task. However you can revisit dungeons as often as you want, they reset on entrance. Also the loot is scaleable to your level. I know that in privateers hold ( starting dungeon ) you can often find maps to other dungeons. They look like plain paper ( identicle avatar ) just click on it.

Ya can also do quest from various of people/faction and the chances of a quest involving a dungeon is decent.

Still, you should scour the armor shops for certain pieces that are hard to find. Like for me, I almost never find good gauntlets except at stores. The Odd Blades in Daggerfall often has a better weapon than the one you have. Most importantly I think for a new player is to spend your money on the good enchanted items at the Mage's Guild. They get daedric stuff in there before you could normally find it, and it will be enchanted with something cool. Once you reach the rank to buy stuff from the guild that way, just town hop to find what you need.

Or save up a crapload of money and summon the daedra lords.

2) Lady Ber told me to go to Wayrest, Daggerfall and the other city and meet with the nobles. I went to the Daggerfall City and spoke to the king, but he's just giving me short quests to complete. Get some fame, do some jobs. They don't know who you are yet. They'll call you when you're wanted.

3) Some names for some good towns and dungeons? A town where I can find lots of stuff, and eventful dungeons. Still Level 3 mind you , but I'm still quite a good fighter (no fighting against some ancient liches though :P).
If you're feeling hardy, join a knightly order and go giant killing. Or orc slaughtering. Either one tends to turn up good loot.

My favorite are the area-around-caster spells, particularly the minimal cost custom one I always make on my destruction-casting characters. It shoves enemies away from you, enabling you to keep them at bay, sometimes escape when cornered, and, best of all, knock enemies off ledges. Yes, they do take falling damage. :D
