Daggerfall: Veteran Tips for Beginners #2

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:01 pm

I get maps all the time from guilds, and never know what to do with them. It doesn't even add it to your inventory so you get to read the name once, and then it's never spoken of again. :banghead:

I encountered this today as well. My quest giver at the Fighters Guild suddenly gave me a tip for some "killing and loot" and mentioned some house. He even said he would mark it on my map - and I can't find it anywhere! So there goes a good opportunity for loot down the drain.

Continuing on this, I found two maps in a dungeon, and I wrote down the names since I was sure that I'll never have another copy of the names. In fact I was write, the game did not store the names anywhere.

-The Gaerham Cemetery
-Coven on the Bluff

For the second one, the dot on the map is BLACK?! Why?

Can someone also tell me what to do with the name (or rather, lack of) given to me in the post I quoted.

Thank you.

Tesfanner, consider yourself lucky. VERY lucky. :D
The black dot, the location of the Coven on the Bluff, is one of the few places in the game world where you can summon Daedras to get artifacts. You should visit their place when you have the gold (In the hundreds of thousands). You may also perform random quests for the coven of witches as well. :goodjob:

As for your dungeon map problem, it should add a new dungeon on your world map. There are no orange/dark orange dots that have been added? The questgiver will never tell you what dungeon has been added, you need to check your world map to see which new dot has appeared.

I'd like to add a tip I've talked about in another thread :

You can annotate your local town map. Click anywhere on your map and you can write things. I find it especially useful when doing freelance thievery and marking which house I've broke into or which house can't be entered ("This house has nothing of value" message)
Another use to this is that it can occur that two shops in the same city have the same name. In this case, the game will only identify one of the two shops on your map, even if you asked directions for both. So you can write down yourself the name of the shop. (Most of the time, this bug will happen with banks. Some cities have two banks with the same name.)

You may also write silly things on your map. :P

I knew there was something fishy about 'Coven on the Bluff'. It didn't look like a regular name. I've got 70K right now so I'll have to wait.

Is there a book about Deadra summonings? I recall there was a book in Morrowind, so I would know what I can get from each Daedra.

Spoiler
For example I know Hircine can give me his ring which I can use to transform into a werewolf!

Also, there may have been some new orange/dark orange dots added, but there are a lot of those so I can't recognise which ones are the new ones.

There is a book I'm sure about that talks about a certain Daedric Prince involved in Morrowind's main quest... (Hint hint!)
There's another one for our favourite Madgod, but I'm not sure for the rest.
I must admit, I've never really read Daggerfall's books. :embarrass:

That's why you can't notice which dungeons are added. :P You've seen too much of the province.

I also don't read DF's books, because of the font. Yellow on a pale orange background wasn't a good choice, and the format isn't good.

Still, I think you'll get the "somewhat new player" luck title. :D

Most of us had to cheat to get access to the Covens, even after all those years! :P

I got a quest to cast open on a chest. Now I've got the chest, how do I open it? When in inventory screen, I can't cast spell. So I return to normal view, cast open, then bring up inventory and click on chest. Nothing happens. how do I do this? Thanks!

Once you have the chest you merely cast the standard open spell, it has to be the standard open spell that you've bought, not a custom open spell.

Yeah you get a message when you get it. Go to any temple and quickly heal it for a small fee. Be quick, or it can kill you.

I got a quest to rescue a girl from "Ruins of Moorford Manor" however, the only spot with "Moorford" in it is Moorford Farmstead. There's no Manors. I can't talk with the guy again until the quest's completed. Where can I find this place? It's not on the map anywhere :( (In Daggerfall region)

Going on a hunch, I start asking around if they know where this girl is (using her name) and it turns out that she's IN Daggerfall city itself. So I went over to a house, unlocked it with a simple open spell, found the girl inside, and brought her back. She's isn't kidnapped by orcs as explained, just lost... :shakehead:

I'm currently working on the main quest as that is usually what I do in Elder Scrolls games before I do the guild and daedric quests. I've done this one quest about some letter that Aubk-i of Daggerfall castle wants tracked down. I believe they belong to Mynisera (sp?). So I go to the dungeon slog my way through find the letters and leave. The problem is every time I get back to castle Daggerfall I can't speak to Aubk-i and if I click on her to try the letters disappear from my inventory without her saying a word. I have no saves prior to me getting the quest and I've tried several times to go back and re-do the quest. What do I do?

If you would have waited a little bit you would have been contacted by the fighters guild and they would explain to you that the child was being protected from the man and you just delivered her right to him....I just had the same quest.

So it was a bad thing that I did? I'm not a member of fighter's guild, would they still contact me? This is interesting! Thanks for the info

Arg this svcks. It can happen sometimes where a vicious bug prevents you from reading the dialogue the quest giver says when the quest is over, but the quest is done anyway.

The quest is not required to complete the main quest. Its purpose is to get more backgound information about the plot. (And acquire some loot, indeed)

Here's what she says, approximately, when you complete the quest (Taken from UESP):
Spoiler
Once you return the letters to Aubk-i, she will "tut-tut" about the orcs and tell you that Lysandus had a mistress. She will also give you a piece of jewelry for your troubles.

She also offers you a reward in gold. (Does your gold amount increases when you speak to her with the letters?)

I just have the quest where I have to bring a sabretooth tiger back to a palace. Of course the place is filled with sabretooth tigers, giants, and orc sergeants, which my argonian assassin has little chance against with a dagger and shoddy marksmanship. I used the quest cheat to find the tiger, got the message that it was tame, and yet it still attacks me! Worse still, it doesnt seem to follow when I do the save/load, alt f11 teleport back to the entrance, or fast travel.

I think this quest is either bugged, or just not worth it.

Well, the problem must be the notice comes up and goes too quickly/ I have noticed that if you equip something enchanted the info of the enchantment immediately appears over the text along the top of your invenotry and is immpossible to read.I wonder if the disease message can appear while you have the inventory open and just appear unreadable over the top of the inventory screen?

I think it's part of the game that you notice your disease later on. You don't get to know about it as soon as you get it (which makes sense, actually).
