Daggerfall: Veteran Tips for Beginners #2

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 7:17 am

I just have the quest where I have to bring a sabretooth tiger back to a palace. Of course the place is filled with sabretooth tigers, giants, and orc sergeants, which my argonian assassin has little chance against with a dagger and shoddy marksmanship. I used the quest cheat to find the tiger, got the message that it was tame, and yet it still attacks me! Worse still, it doesnt seem to follow when I do the save/load, alt f11 teleport back to the entrance, or fast travel.

I think this quest is either bugged, or just not worth it.

My memory is fuzy as I haven't got this quest in a long time. I believe you are supposed to "Use" the bell you are given when you see the tiger. He should then "follow you" (Dissapear), and then you can get back to the noble to whom it belong to. NPCs and monsters cannot follow you in real-time, instead you see their face in the left part of the screen. With the tiger, I don't remember seeing its face there.

Well, the problem must be the notice comes up and goes too quickly/ I have noticed that if you equip something enchanted the info of the enchantment immediately appears over the text along the top of your invenotry and is immpossible to read.I wonder if the disease message can appear while you have the inventory open and just appear unreadable over the top of the inventory screen?

Always check your condition when traveling through a dungeon. It's the same key as checking what time it is, which province you visit and what is your standing in that province's law.

And, yes, diseases messages always appear a few hours after you caught it. It's not a bug.

I had that a couple days ago where I got the plague from a mummy, I did not notice I was sick until I tried to fast travel and it told me I might not survive

Get to a temple right away and you will be fine

I've got a question regarding the Main Quest, since this is the first time I've been actually doing the MQ.

>> DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS <<

Spoiler
I was asked to go to Mannimarco and give him a letter, which I did, about a wedding. I then went back to the Princess and if I read everything correctly (damn the game not saving any information in the journal), she's just arranged a wedding for herself.

I've also stolen a painting for the Queen of Castle Sentinel.

So now the only thing left is speaking to the Daggerfall nobles, since I've finished Sentinel and Wayrest (for now at least).

My problem is quite simple actually....nothing makes sense right now. Is this normal?

Thanks :)

I'm in a dungeon, looking for a rare book. So I'm wondering - how do single items like a book manifest themselves in a DF dungeon? Are they in loot you find on the floor? Are they on a thief or nightblade you kill? Can they be in a bookshelf (found a room with bookshelves, but couldn't activate them)? Or just lying on the floor somewhere?

@Tesfanner :
(MAIN QUEST INFORMATION AHEAD!)
Spoiler
Doing these quests will eventually unlock new ones. Think of those quests as ways for the nobles to get to know you and, you to know them.
You should begin to see who can be trusted and who can't. Who might stab another person in the back, etc.

And, by doing some of the quests, the noble might speak your name to another person who will contact you.

Hope it helps. :)

The book will look like its icon in your inventory. Search for a beige coloured book lying on the floor somewhere in the dungeon.

Once I had to find some kind of spell scroll in a dungeon, I explored for over an hour, got discouraged, and then found it on a torture table on my way out....

Thanks, it did help :) In fact, I've been receiving letters lately from nobles, they're getting recommendations from others to contact me

Tip: Never leave an anchor at the entrance of a dungeon... leave it right in front of the person who gave you the quest :P

Haha, wow. You know, that never even occurred to me and I'm kind of a longtime player. I'm never really pressed for time to complete quests though, so there you go.

Yeah, I've looked all around (I think) three or four times without finding that darn book. Re-checked most of the rooms, retraced my steps a thousand times, checked all the torture-tables - just as my last dungeon, I feel I have walked through the same hallways and same rooms for hours without finding that darn quest item. Only thing i haven't checked is an underwater passage and where it leads to because I can't survive underwater long enough to swim to the other "exit".

Guess I'm looking at another failed quest. :(

You can always "re-roll" a dungeon by stepping out and going back in - everything respawns, including the quest objects which are whisked off to a random quest location within the dungeon. This is especially useful for those fighter's guild quests where you hear the cry of the offending werewolf/giant/lich, but it disappears from existence seconds after to a place where even the bracket keys cannot help you. It's annoying, I know.

Random, you say? Perhaps I can keep re-entering the dungeon until it's in the very first room. :P

I think my next DF-character will be a thief so I don't have to worry too much about those darn dungeons.

Sometimes the items are kind of unique looking and you don't always know what you're trying to get. For one mission I was supposed to rescue someone who was getting ransomed, and all I found was her finger.

Continuing on this, I found two maps in a dungeon, and I wrote down the names since I was sure that I'll never have another copy of the names. In fact I was write, the game did not store the names anywhere.

-The Gaerham Cemetery
-Coven on the Bluff

For the second one, the dot on the map is BLACK?! Why?

Can someone also tell me what to do with the name (or rather, lack of) given to me in the post I quoted.

Thank you.

Coven on the Bluff is a witches coven, if memory serves me. The covens are shown as black icons I'm pretty sure.

Ok, I've created a thief character. Female Khajiit with standard Thief class. (I did great in Privateer's Hold with the Ebony Dagger - didn't die once and ended up with over 6000 gold pieces when all loot was sold - and even a level increase. :D ) So I want to join the Thieves Guild. Do any of you guys have tips on how to steal and pickpocket successfully in Daggerfall?

Easy way to join the guild: Go to a dungeon (even Privateer's Hold works), switch to steal mode, spam the space bar on every enemy you see until you get some gold a few times. Repeat throughout the whole dungeon, just to make sure (and to train your pickpocket skill).

Then you should get a note delivered to you a few days later on how to join!

I actually did that before I read your reply. Didn't know all them Giant Spiders were carrying that much gold. :D My problem now is that I have stolen the casual dress I am supposed to steal and I have found a note within with just a name and the name of a town. I've travelled there, but I can't ask around as the name doesn't come up as a topic. uesp.net says he should be at a tavern, but I've visited every tavern in this town without finding him. What should I do? :(

It's not a tavern, you have to go to a residence in the town. Maybe you went to the wrong town, some towns have similar names so make sure you type it in exactly as it's written.

When you ask for a residence, you have to ask about places>general.

Don't plant anchors inside of buildings that can be locked against you, bugginess can result. Set it outside the door of the building.

The note says Cathcastle and that is what I have typed in when travelling. I double-checked and ended up in the same place. I knew that when I ask for quest-related NPCs and residences, I have to go to General under Where is..., but my General is blank. :(

Quest related NPCs are not under location>general, they are under where is>people. I know it's a long shot but did you try there?
