Ah that explains it. Daggerfall is still a surprise after all these years.

I had a base in Pothago, but moved to Penwold in Daggerfall because Pothago had a crappy mages guild.

Two questions, the first one is what does Arkay's Donation Collector do? UESP doesn't say and the second is how can I get the Ctrl-F1 cheat to work. (I would need a brief guide for the second one, I don't want to mess up DOSBox)

Donation collectors are supposed to raise your reputation. I've never been able to actually raise rank from doing this however, so whether or not it actually works it is not a viable replacement to doing quests.

I can't help you with the cheat as I've never bothered with that particular one. I believe you just use the DOSBox keymapper though. Maybe read the readme?... the best way to learn is by trying to do it yourself.

Thanks for the donation collectors info and it's more that I don't want to mess up DOSbox in the attempt.

You get a temporary bonus to something. The something is based on which temple it is, the magnitude of the bonus depends on your rank, and the duration depends on the amount of gold you gave them. Donating does not improve your rep with the temple itself.
Temple: God of: Blessing:------------------------------------------ Akatosh Time Speed Arkay Birth and Death None Dibella Beauty Luck Julianos Knowledge Intelligence Kynareth Air Endurance Mara Love Personality Stendarr Mercy Legal Rep Zenithar Commerce Mercantile------------------------------------------

The easiest way to use the cheats is to run the game without DOSbox (directly on windows), enter the cheat, save the game, and then reopen back in DOSbox.

That's interesting. I had always assumed it was just a rep gain, as donating even huge sums of money never seemed to do anything, stats or otherwise..

Why is it that Arkay's does nothing?

How do you find Ruins of Cosh Hall? Are you sent there or do you have to walk there?

Arkay gives lower prices to cure disease as you raise in rank. That's the temple bonus. Kind of worthless.

From your experience, which Temple is best to join - factoring in these (and other?) bonuses, the skills required, etc.? You can get the same benefits from joining their respective Templar Order too, right?

I like Julianos the best because it offers the Item Maker and the other temples don't. And I usually join the Dark Brotherhood so I don't need potion services.

It doesn't offer potion makers though and since I usually join the MG I don't need another Item Maker.

This was a VERY long time ago, so my memory might be a bit muddled, but once I didn't do any temple quests for a good while (was busy doing other stuff) and my reputation with them dropped to the point that they wouldn't give me any quests until I had given them a few sizable donations. Or maybe they would give me quests, but denied me other services. Like I said, it's been a long time. Anyhow, the point is, giving donations will raise your reputation with the temple.

I wonder if it is normal that I can't exit castle sentinel since I brought the picture, queen akorithi demanded. game crashes with error 2. though I can (barely) teleport myself out of the castle, on reentering, all persons have some weird texts like "dagtext missing 8684" or something like that. when exiting now, it tells me something about dagtext 38 missing, but at least, it release me from castle sentinel after approx. one minute...
is it worth to play further or did I just screwed up the game?

Are there any recommended spells to make at a spellmaker when starting out?

How common is Daedric armour at level 17? I've only found some Daedric tantos in over 3 large dungeons I've explored. Most common is Mithril weapons and as for armour, sometimes Dwarven yet most of the time iron and steel...at level 17.

Oh yes there are!

First off, know this: 1 to 2 + 1 to 2 per 2 levels. This is the easiest-to-cast version of any spell. You may be able to make a more efficient spell later on, but for spells from schools you aren't good at, this is the way to go. It's small and of short duration, but repeated castings will just help you advance your skill faster :) Now, some good spells to make are:

Water walking + water breathing. Remembering, of course, that water walking is not like it is in MW/OB, but rather lets you walk through water as if it were air (ie, without having to swim) You can still ascend and descend as if swimming, of course. Basically, it's like levitation but in water.

Open. Even the simplest version will open ANY exterior lock in any town. Not very useful in dungeons, but that's what bashing is for :)

Levitation. 'Nuff said.

Heal health. Also a duh.

Create Item: awesome spell. Creates a certain item for you, which you get to keep permanently. Of course, you usually get the poorest quality of any item type, but it is possible to summon yourself some gear of higher material quality. You can summon yourself more arrows, which is what I use it for primarily.

Recall. Works just like in MW, Just note that your anchor goes away each time you recall, so you'll have to reset it each time. Still, setting one at the entrance to a dungeon or right in front of your quest giver makes for an easy escape.

These are basically the first spells I make with any given character.

Yes, and furthermore it's considered an awesome looking weapon.

Indeed, which is why I'm using it!

Well I started a new character now, specialising in blunt weapons and thievery. More of an assassin though, but that's ok.

Had to restart Daggerfall due to a PC problem, and breezed through Privateer's Hold so easily that the game threw a ghost at me! Luckily it was in the room with the exit, so just ran around him and out of the hold! :)

SO I did the Daedric weaponry trick, i got a broadsword, a dagger, a staff, and a shortbow, i made two runs, teh first time only one guard came to me so i smote him with my broadsword and decided to make a second run, the second time a bunch of guards came so i saved my game, and plead not guilty in court until i was finally found not guilty  i wasnt even charged for the murder

i seem to have run into a glitch however, it wont let me equip two handed weapons, whenever i have a two handed weapon it only shows my fist even when i switch hands, any idea as to how this came about?

Is there anywhere that I can buy a Cure Disease Potion other than a temple?
