Daggerfall: Videos are skipped?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 12:10 pm

The Pictures of Daggerfall Characters thread inspired me to reinstall Daggerfall.

The problem however is that it won't play any of the videos. When I start the game the Bethesda Softworks intro is skipped and I'm in the menus right away. If I die, I don't get the death cutscene. If I start a new game, I'm in Privateer's Hold immediately after finishing character generation.

I'm using the latest official DosBox build, and followed the installation instructions http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=479044 as always. I didn't have this problem in the past. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

The movie files are on the "cd" mount the dfcd folder as cd rom with the label daggerfall and run normally, after changing the z.cfg file to point to the cd.

Copy the *.VID files from the extracted "dfcd/dagger/arena2" folder to the arena2 folder in your installed Daggerfall directory. Those are the movie files, and they should display properly assuming you got everything else working.

Copy everything from "dfcd/dagger/arena2 to your "dagger\arena2" then change the CD entry in your daggerfall.conf file to show dagger\area2 in both entries, but leaving the cdrom commands after one of them. This will give you a smoother game and the video's you want.

If he copies everything, he'll have to repatch because it'll copy buggy quests (among other things) back over. In addition, if he did the huge install, it already installed everything but the video files. Think before you post.

Perhaps we can play nice?

This happened to me (although I really didn't care that much for the movies), but the above ways work. Just be careful not to copy everything, or you will have to redo... everything.

That's true. I forgot to mention the patch would have to be run again. But that's a minor hinderence compared to the benefit!

I think I might do the opposite and nuke the death video. It gets tedious.

I copied everything but I used 'no to all' to the question if I wanted to overwrite the files, so now I have all the missing files without any of the patched files replaced.

And that worked, thanks! :)
