Daggerfall: Wizard Lock Bug

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:33 am

IIRC, back in the day we had a prejudice against using any door locking spells EVER. It seemed that, if one did so, there would be a much higher incidence of locked doors in the future. Is it actually true, though? I just found a ring of the sealed door (Prince Lhotun gave it to me), and I don't want to use it only to discover that I've pretty much broken my game.

I think I can say without the slightest reservation that I have absolutely never locked a door in any TES game. I also think I may be speaking for a lot of folks here. Sorry!

I've never heard that rumor, but I have tried to lock doors, and as far as I can tell the spell does not work at all.

Sounds like a rumor as locked doors and magically sealed doors show up more as you get higher level.

In dungeon

Step 1: Rest.

Step 2: Awaken mostly healed by unknown assailant. Figure it's okay, save over last save slot.

Step 3: Hear demented growl of Ancient Vampire.

Step 4: Run like hell, avoid avoid avoid, trap him in a room and lock the door.

Set 5: Pelt him with arrows through the door.

Actually, don't enemies open doors when they walk by, even locked ones? I seem to remember being advised that leading an enemy to a locked door is one way to open it. Perhaps they only open the physically locked ones.

Well, in any case, there would be no good reason to program such a feature, and the likelihood that you would accidentally program it in as a bug is vanishingly remote. There's no reason to think it's true. Nirreln has probably hit on the "logic" behind it.

I'll get back to you guys on it. Next time I fire it up, I'll test that rumor.
