Daggerfell port for the DS and PSP?

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 2:05 pm

Would anyone like to see a port of Daggerfell for the PSP and/or Nintendo DS? I think it would be great, not a remake just a rerelease of it how it is. I'm sure the PSP could handle it.
And now that the PSP2 is coming out and will have very good graphics (rumor is close to the PS3) I think they could have a Morrowind port for that. I would love being able to play ES on long plane trips.
Anyone else think this would be an awesome idea?

If it's something Bethesda feels they can do well and without much hassle I think that's great (even though I own neither system). However I think porting Daggerfall to another platform would be very difficult, which makes something like this very unlikely.

Since Morrowind was never ported to the Playstation 2 I think it's unlikely Bethesda would be interested in porting it to a Playstation handheld, and that's assuming the PSP2 has the hardware to handle it - with memory being the big question here instead of graphics.

Vir2L has developed for handhelds so it wouldn't surprise me to see a new Elder Scrolls Travels from them on one or both of these platforms, and it also wouldn't surprise me to hear about an Elder Scrolls game for Smartphones. But I doubt we'll see ports of old games.

Sounds like it might be some work. I dunno, I'd buy it if they made it, but I'd rather they work on TES V and TES VI

well Bethesda themselves would probably hire somebody else to do it so its not like it would detract form their regular work.

Relaese An Elder Scrolls Trilogy bundle pack for 360 and Ps3. Thios would include: I, II, III, Redgaurd, Battlespire, and maybe travels (I said maybe).

Yes, especially Battlespire its the only multiplayer one. And it would be awesome to play it online over Xbox Live.

It's difficult to port DOS games to modern platforms and I imagine since Bethesda has been releasing their old games for free this means they're not interested in porting them. Daggerfall's bugginess would be a big complicating factor as would Redguard's archaic 3D foundation, and I imagine if Battlespire was released on a new platform it's multiplayer code would need to be entirely redone. These hurdles would require a lot of work and it's unlikely anyone at Bethesda is familiar with the code any more (even if they worked on it given how old these titles are!).

didn't Bethesda lose Daggerfall's source code?

i'd personally really like to see Redguard totally remade for the PS3/360 but that's just me.

That's the rumor. But even if they didn't, the code is a horrible mess written in assembler, and to make it work on another platform would be a lot of work. And I don't think Bethesda ever will consider it to be worth the paid manhours they have to spend port it when they already released the game for free.

So would I. It's really a console game at heart and meant to be played with a game controller. Not to mention that the PC version suffer from a bunch of technical issues from using outdated tech. Both those problems would be gone if they made a remake of the game and put it on PSN and XBLA.
