DaggerXL - the continuation II

That's clever, but the vocals are drowning in their own echo a bit.

Is this the same voice-acting from the game? This is bad. Like, if Batman wasn't Batman and was instead called Badman, it would be something he would make. It would be the work of the Badman, supervillianeous master of terrible voice acting.

Amazing, lucius, truly amazing. You're giving me hope Daggerfall can really become what it was meant to be.

Also, I gave a look at the screenshots on the blog and I've got to say it looks darn beautiful with the new graphical additions.

Ok, I finally found the time to test the new version, but I have a problem: the dungeon loads fine and looks nice, but there are no enemies visible. They are there, but I cannot see them. The only thing I get is that the screen turns red for a moment and it shakes when I get hit. I tried stabbing around with the sword but there was no indication from where the opponent striked me, so I missed I guess. Any idea where this problem might come from?

Strange. Can you see any flats (like treasure piles and decorations)?

Wait... I?ll check it out now... will edit this post with new information.

EDIT: Ok, this didn?t took too long, no I don?t see any flats. I first started the original Daggerfall with the Dosbox to have a comparison to how it should be, then DaggerXL and right in the starting room there?s just the treebranch but no fire, no skeleton heads and no treasure bag in the next room where the rat should be. So no flats for me. I don?t have a clue why it doesn?t work, I think I installed everything correctly, maybe I go through every step again if you don?t have an idea.

EDIT 2: I think i haven?t made an installation mistake, I downloaded the newest DirectX and OpenAL-Drivers from the links on your HP, I set the Arena2-Path correctly (otherwise it wouldn?t even start), I even tried out checking and unchecking some of the Bloom / Filter / etc options but with no effect up to now. Me sad :(

EDIT 3: Sry for the many edits: Ok, DaggerXL doesn?t work on my laptop (the problem is the one above mentioned) so I just installed it in exactly the same way on my desktop. And tada: here it works without any flaws (I?ve just checked it out for a few seconds, but all the flats were there: enemies, the fire, the bags etc). I have no idea what?s the problem on my laptop. At least I know that I haven?t done anything wrong with the installation. I have no idea what to do next... well, I can live with it since it does at least work on my desktop, better than nothing :) and I have to say: it just looks fantastic outside, the view distance is AMAZING. Looks very beautiful, and the atmopshere in cities at nights is very cool! Keep it up :trophy:

Ok, thanks for looking into it. Can you post your laptop specs (mainly GPU/ram/OS)?

GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 (1024 MB GPU memory)
CPU: Intel DualCore T 2330 (1,6 Ghz)
Memory: 2 GB RAM
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit (with Service Pack 2)
DirectX 11

-- maybe I could update my GPU drivers, do you think there could be a problem? Maybe later I?ll find some time to do that...

EDIT: There?s no possibility for me to update the GPU drivers since with Vista only new drivers made by the laptop manufacturer are accepted - and there are no new ones. So there?s nothing left to do. Maybe some future version of DaggerXL will work again.

I will try to investigate this when I get a chance. Please note that it may be a little difficult, since I don't have that hardware (no testing lab for hobby projects). A good start would be more diagnostics.

No problem! Please don?t waste precious time on investigating this while you could work on DaggerXL ;). As I said, it works on my desktop, so that?s ok. Maybe I?ll find a solution myself, or the problem gets somehow solved in future versions. If I find something out, I?ll let you know in case anybody has the same problem. Keep it up!

Those postcards are very impressive. Even with a modest 3D environment and 2D sprites Daggerfall is very immersive. It looks even more real, mysterious and magic thanks to this new engine and it's improvements. Great work.
