DaggerXL - the continuation thread.

If you will be able to finish this you will be my greatest hero. If it will end like many other great project ideas/work in progresses and is never finished I would be very sad.

Keep up the good work, what you have so far looks great :)!

Silly question time:

I recently re-started DAGGERFALL. Will my savegames be compatible with XL?

Thanks in advance,
SirV

yup. But don't expect to be playing DXL "for real" anytime soon. Lucius is fast, but he isn't superhuman.

...well, maybe he is, but you know...

If you want to get an idea of where the project is and where save game support will be added, please see the http://daggerxl.wordpress.com/roadmap/.

Note that save game support is planned not for the next major milestone (pre-alpha version 0.3) but the one after (pre-alpha version 0.5). However Daggerfall emulation will not be complete until two milestones after that, the Alpha version 2.0 build. Unfortunately, I can't give specific dates since this is only a hobby project - but you can see there is a plan that is being implemented. :)

I support this idea. :foodndrink:

It is damn cool to see someone recreate a classic. Thankyou.

You are coming along very professionally, you're doing a smooth, clean job.

There is a new http://daggerxl.wordpress.com that talks about terrain texturing, collision and foliage. Let me know what you think. :)

Is it just me or are there problems accessing the forums on your website? I'm using Internet Explorer 8, and every time I tried to connect to daggerlx forums, it timed out.

It's working for me right now.

Nice to see this new post, it?s always interesting to see what many tasks you have to approach to make this happen. So much to do, good to have someone as determined as you on the job ;)

I didn't get the build out last week like planned, but I expect to release it any day now.

Can't wait for this to be done!

How long do you think it will be done? Talking years probably? Reason I ask is because I want to hold off playing daggerfall again until this is released. I know you don't know the date or anything, but I just want to know if more than a year, because then I might just play another game sooner.

I say just play anyway. He may get most of the features in long before a year, but there will be a big period of hammering out all the weird little issues. That's just a given with such a complex game and it's compounded by him having DarkXL and real life to do as well. :)

That said, with some of the extra stuff he's building in as he goes, DaggerXL will be fresh enough that you'll want to play it again even after recently playing through Daggerfall again. :D

This is looking great. I'm especially looking forward to checking out the Dragontail Mountains.

There's one thing that's bugging me a little, though; it doesn't look like the view distance is as far in this build. Is there a reason for this or are my eyes just playing tricks on me?

The view distance hasn't changed - it's the same as the current build. Keep in mind, also, that you're seeing the "highest detail" LOD - future versions will have a full LOD system to render out to the horizon.

Looks great. I didn't noticed anything from the screenshots taken from ground level. If you levitate too high it's normal you will start noticing the distance fog.

This is beyond amazing.

If you are able to implement all the missing features, Daggerfall will officially become the best RPG ever. I can hardly wait.

This is really cool and I'm glad you're taking your time to do this.

I'm impressed with the fact that the terrain looks much smoother and textured than the original game.
