IMO, they don't really fit the general theme of Skyrim, seems more sophisticated than rugged, but hey I think they'll be in.

i would like them in if just occasionally even, enemies wielded them, i felt there wasn't enough diversity in weaponry and apparel in OB and i'm looking forward to that being changed in skyrim, so a crazy bandit swinging a katana would be nice or a draugr who stole one as fat loot then wields it in death would be nice, but these are just ideas

It's not really ironic since, Dragons are a Akaviri race.

Well that's the irony!
They don't want katanas in Skyrim since they don't find them fitting, but dragons - who came from same continent like katanas - are fine. :P

Dai-Katana, my favorite Elder Scrolls weapon :D
But I don't really care if Skyrim has none. I'm sure I will find something else to be happy with :)

True.
In case it's not in, I'll go get Umbra or, even better, craft my own Umbra-like sword from dragon bone. :)

yes you can block while dual wielding its just not as effective, meaning you have life taken by each block w the weapon.

Really?
Do you have any source for this since all I've been hearing is that you can't block while dual-wielding and that it's been officially confirmed. :ermm:
They should stop playing with my heart! :ahhh:

I'm sorry, but this post makes no sense at all.

1 - There is nothing wrong with them being in, and it would actually be more wrong if they are not in.
2 - TES is Fantasy, not High Fantasy game (J-RPGs are ones which are High Fantasy games most of the times - now guess which weapons they use there the most).
3 - Katanas being in a RPG or not doesn't make it high fantasy (that depends on other factors).
4 - Mods are not answer for everything (at least they shouldn't be).
5 - I like beer, cheese and chocolate (not at the same time though).

As a rare weapon i would like it, fits in the elder scrolls lore quite nicely.

True.
I really wouldn't like if they are common weapon in Skyrim.
Now that would be tasteless!

I do think that Akaviri weapons could add to the diversity in Skyrim. Katanas are fine by me, as long as we stop at the weapons that were previously introduced in the series. For instance, I wouldn't want increadibly oversized swords (or hammers).

Also, just to clear things up, I believe that the dragons which we will be fighting in Skryim are Jills, and so are not those native to Akavir. I could be wrong, and proving that would help me a bunch in an argument with a friend.

I actually hope katanas in general are returning :sadvaultboy:

They should so close or at least closer to the "Dragon Lands" of Akavir!

Why do we get katanas from Akavir, but not sabres from Elseweyr?

Here we go again, more love for chainsaws of ultimate doom, destruction and grace that happens to be katanas.

Just gimme an axe or hammer to smash and hack people with.

And -Henrik-, Akavir is to the east, Altmora is north. Morrowind and Black Marsh would be the closest to Akavir, but even then, the distance is quite far and the two lands only meet when there's an invasion.

I'm hoping that if there's katanas that they have a lot of different varieties, like the Ebony Blade, but not unique or anything.

I don't care wtf Beth names them, I want to see more than one type of Katana in Skyrim. I like the design of single-edged blades as opposed to double-edged because of the asymmetry.

Dragons have appeared in the world from the Mayans to the Chinese to the Europeans. The Depicitions of dragons in skyrim are akin to that of the European variety.

Now replying to mine:
1) Why would it be wrong to not have them??
2)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_fantasy is the purest form of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasy IMO, and you obviously dont know what it is.
3) katanas are not a feature in that belong in any true High Fantasy
4) i agree, but in this scanario i beleive it is the best choice
5) good for you

Edit: wrong link on second fantasy

Why not use Scimitars instead. They would look the part AND fill the role a Katana would have (withouit all the Mythos).

Hehe that would be nice, but I doubt Skyrim is as flexible into the smithing area.

Maybe for the next Elder Scrolls. That would be nice to be able to apply at least morphs to weapon with a smith skill.

How not?
There are lot of people who like katanas.
Also, katanas same as other swords seen in TES.
Maybe they have same purpose, but other swords don't allow you to RP some roles like katana does.

Why do we get katanas from Akavir, but not sabres from Elseweyr?

I don't have anything against them and actually think that they are pretty cool, but they are not same as a katana.
