Danae's Hold It!, Starfires NPC Additions and Froucrias Prop

Post » Fri Jun 24, 2011 6:14 pm

Hi Guys,

I've been trying out Hold It! and NPC Additions which both work great. However I was bothered by the fact that none of the female NPC's added by the Additions mod wore Skirts. I located the 'Proper Ladies' mod for NPCA, but it is not compatible with Hold It!

With that in mind, I decided to take a go at directly updating NPC Additions to include the skirts, which also gave me an excuse to play with TESCS. I've manually edited most of the female NPC's added by Starfire so that they now have a chance of wearing either a Skirt or Pants (the odds should be identical to those in 'Proper Ladies' as I used the same item lists). I saved the changes, enabled the esp, ran MLOX and remerged the lists. It works fine.

To test with Hold It! and the SF npc addon, I enabled them, ran mlox to ensure that the SF addon was loaded after NPCA, and remerged the lists again.

Doing this puts me back to square one - The female NPC's spawn correctly and are holding items, but none of them have skirts.

This has confused the heck out of me - based on my understanding of *why* Hold It! and 'Proper Ladies' don't work, I was fairly sure that updating the base NPCA module should work around the problem

Could anyone offer any advice please!?

Thanks!

Have you tried merging the two mods with SmartMerger? I'm pretty sure it will fix the issue. If you've already done that and still cannot get a result, then I'm not sure what to do. But merging them should give the npcs both items (Hold it and skirts).

I do know that when one mod alters an NPC's inventory, it re-sets that NPC's inventory to the default plus the changed item, so only the change made by the last mod in the load order will show up in game. To my knowledge, there is no way to "merge" the changes made by two different mods to the same NPC's inventory unless the changes to inventory are in a leveled list. Even merging the two mods in the CS will only accept one change over the other. The changes made by one mod would have to be manually added to the subsequent mods.

If I am mistaken, I would greatly love to know. I had the same exact issue with Hold It! and Korana's peasant gown replacer.

Thanks Elaura - That's how I understood that it worked, and that is why Hold It! and 'Proper Ladies' conflict. The problem here is that I have directly modified the *default inventory* for these npc's (the npc's that have been edited are unique to NPCA, and that is where I have changed them). This is what is confusing me. The change to the inventory was basically to remove one leveled item list (which just contained Pants) and add a replacement (which contained Pants and Skirts).

Based on what you have written and my understanding of it, that should have fixed the issue and everything should now be working (because I've added the skirts to the default inventory).

Have I missed something obvious here?

Thanks for the suggestion - I had considered it, but I'd actually like to keep the mods seperate if I can.

The Hold It addon includes the NPCs from Starfire's mod and just adds Hold It items to them. As that mod loads last its definition of the NPCs is used rather than the definition from your edited version of NPC Additions. The Hold It addon doesn't add the skirts (or rather the item levelled list giving a chance to have a skirt) so the NPCs don't wear them.

Try using TESTool's Merged Objects function. It should merge the various items added to an NPC's inventory from the various mods affecting that NPC. IIRC, Merged Objects would mean that an NPC would have the clothing items from both mods (the Hold It addon's trousers and the skirts / trousers from your edited ESP), the NPC will wear whichever clothing item is worth more, I think.

Hi! I used NPCEdit by Dave Humphrey for batch NPC editing. So if merging won't do the trick, you can use it for adding Hold It leveled lists to my mod. I did it with nobles using hold it 1.5 and it worked ok for me.

Thanks for all of your input guys.

Everything you've said does make sense - however, when I look at the NPC's from Hold It in TESCS, they *don't* have a full inventory. In fact, all they have is some entries from the Levelled Items list, which are themselves blank(?). I have dropped a PM to Danae so hopefully she will have some time to stop by this thread and shed some light on how her mod works.

From what you've said, merging may be the way to go, but I'd love to understand (based on what I'm seeing for Hold It in TESCS) exactly why what I've done isn't working, because it appears that it should be. I'm awkward like that ya see. Have to try and understand everything ;)

Thanks for your posts! :)

Hi there,
The levelled lists in Hold it - SF are empty because this addons doesn't add any item to the lists, it only adds the lists to the npcs.
I also thought that directly editing Starfire's esp would have done the trick...
The way I worked around the problem was with Merged objects (with only Hold it, Proper Ladies and Korana's peasant gowns activated).
Ideally Froucria might update the Hold it compatible version that had already been made.
I'll have a look in the CS later when I have my laptop.
