[BETA] Dance of the Three-Legged Guar

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 4:23 am

A comedy adventure by Princess and Kateri

- Join ex-Legion adventurer Arnand (Sorcha's Breton Hunk) and his beautiful alchemist sister Evie (exclusive face by Westly) in a romantic comedy! With Elves! Oh, okay, and zombies

- Meet their friends: impulsive, job-hating Diren and runaway bride Gwen

- Keep all four as companions, plus their pets wolf-dogs, and embark on a romance with either Arnand or Evie - that just might end in the most disastrous wedding in Tamriel

- Travel to the Breton homeland of High Rock

- Enjoy new interiors, including the stunning Charborne Cove, Arnand/Evie's Balmora home and Diren's Pelagiad apartment

- Command your own band of pirates and reap the rewards of adventure

- Enjoy thousands of lines of new, and often hilarious, dialogue

- Use all the companion features you've come to expect, and scripted situations that you might not have anticipated ... .

BETA download page: http://princessstomper.wordpress.com/2009/02/23/dance-of-the-three-legged-guar/ <-- NOTE: Arnand story only is complete. Not all features fully implemented

There is a walkthrough on the download page

Feedback from testers:

"I love the jokes, and I'm enjoying this very much"
"Great mod! Humour's there, and the storyline's involving."
"Great dialogue, clever use of animations, beautiful interiors and exteriors -- good job!"
"It really did feel like a bunch of friends hanging out at the bar, drinking and chatting with one another. It was lively and very entertaining."

Ok, I did the first Arnand's contracts quest. As soon as I got the journal update and the puzzle box, I had a message box popping asking if I wanted to place the puzzle box in the chest. When I clicked Yes, the game crashed. Second time, I clicked No and no crash. Then we went to the ruins and eventually found the chest. However, the message box popped before I actually saw the chest. No big deal, but it would be nice if the chest wasn't a real container, just an activator. The message box could be triggered when we activate the chest instead of when we enter the room, and we wouldn't be able to open the chest (I did, to double-check that the puzzle box was there, but it was empty). Then we went back to Hasphat to finish the quest.

Oh... and Arnand was mean. He said I read his note even if I have no idea what's he's talking about. Is it the note he asked me to deliver to Hasphat back when we were just dating? Because I didn't read it, I'm a nice girl who respects his privacy  . And he yelled at me in the ruins even thought I still had the puzzle box. In retaliation, I put all the dwemer coins we found in a chest in Charborne Hall and locked it with a 100pt spell. That will teach him. I'll unlock it and give them to him when I'll de-sour. :stare:

Some misc stuff I noticed when re-playing the mod's main quest:
- I feel kind of bad for Arnand's miniature collection he had to leave in Balmora. Would it be possible to add some to Charborne Hall after we buy it?
- It would be very nice if there was an armory/practice room in Charborne Hall, even if it only gets unlocked once you buy the place. Doesn't have to be anything fancy with animated display cases and 60 mannequins and all, but just one room with practice mats and shelves already in place would be nice. I wanted one, so I disabled everything in the Holly Suite and furnished it with a furniture store mod. It looks great but it was a little bit long and painful.
- Did the shop's windows change? If not, I feel bad for not noticing them before. It looks really pretty. I wanted to stick my nose on the windows.

Wow. It's looking really great, guys. I'm holding off on playing it until the Evie story is finished though ;P

On that note, is there any kind of vague ETA on the release? Or, perhaps, how much you've got left to finish?
I really hate to ask, but I'm rather excited :)
Anyway, keep up the fantastic work.
Or else. :chaos:

Now, then, Vahn, you have to provide an or else what. Silly man. :nono:

Now then, keep up the fantastic work, or else I shall smother myself in peanut butter, lay in front of your window, and force you to watch birds pick the stuff out of my ears.

That being said, how goes it?

 Those bugs are funny!

Nice ideas there. I didn't include any sort of armory or training room in Charborne Hall because I didn't think it was appropriate to that setting - however, now you mention it, it might be a nice touch add an area to the caverns. :)

Obviously that's a scripting error - I forgot to put "onActivate", obviously, as a condition for the chest. Will fix.

Sorry Arnand was mean to you. He's obviously grumpy because you don't put out enough.

ETA ... Uh ... when it's done, I guess. I think we're both feeling less pressure because it's in beta, so at least the "Christmas" deadline was met at least nominally. I'd call Arnand's side virtually complete - just a few more minor touches to add such as incidental character dialogue. Not sure what stage Kateri's half is at, but I know she's been working hard on it.

You're right. Now why didn't I think of that? :banghead:

Thanks for the update - it sounds like everything is coming along nicely. I wait with near-boundless anticipation. Might not be the best place to post it, but I'd also like to add just how awesome Kateri's Julan mod was - and how I'm sure this will be equally as good (if not even better!)
No pressure. :D

Ok, I restarted Arnand's adventure with the updated version and I've come across two minor things:

* puppy tricks - although rat meat gets removed from my inventory when I give it to him, if I click on Tricks I get the message that I need to feed him rat meat for him to perform tricks, and so he doesn't perform the trick.

* The bit where nobody does it - Arnand was singularly inept! :o
He failed to remove either his armour or the playable character's. We'd just gone shopping for new armor (in Bob's New Armory) before teleporting home, so maybe he fancied himself a bit too much in his new shiny gear to part with it!

Was Arnie the inspiration for http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Hallgerd%27s_Tale? :lmao:

Yep. Like I posted in the other thread, I had the same problem. Drunk boy passed out with his full armor and shield. I think I liked it better when Arnand didn't have companion share enabled until after the "nobody does it" part.

Sorry Arnand was mean to you. He's obviously grumpy because you don't put out enough.

Not enough?? I can't put out more, I have NOM installed!
If I put out more then I do now, I'll die from lack of sleep or run out of food and starve to death.

Dear Princess and Kateri, do you have any news to share? No pressure of course, I just can't wait to get my paws on the full release! :goodjob:

Hey Miss Stomper,

First off great mob so far. But I'm getting an error after Arnand leaves, once you deal with the Dragon. I get a CTD and when I try to open any of the saved games, I get an error when loading.

Expression error unable to find reference object 1jw_bhe_bal_activator10 in 1jw_bhef_CompScript_pre.

After it just closes down the game.

Recently started playing again and having just finished the main quest with Julan (brilliant mod Kateri ) i decided to check this out too with a new char :)

Loved it, it was very funny in places, one of his little secrets nearly made me spray my tea over the keyboard, not a good idea to drink while playing this mod :D

I haven't done any of the stuff after the main quest yet but i did get a couple of error messages and one minor issue other than the CTD with Evie

Firstly i saw this mentioned before and was apparently fixed with a patch, i see no patch on Princess' site just the 0pt94.7z which i assume to be the latest one but it's still missing the hellobaby.mp3 and wav

Also when i went into the dining room i got an error for the french maid outfit, missing textures dk_fm_leotard.dds and (i think this is right, can't read by own scribble) dk_fm_minwht.dds, i checked the archive and none of the files i mentioned are in it, redownloaded in case it was corrupt but still not there.

Possible spoiler
Spoiler
The only problem i came across that i haven't seen mentioned was when i went into the lower cavern where you find Arnand he warped to me instead of staying where he was meant to be, i reloaded a save before entering but it happens everytime, if i go through to where the ledge is the dialogue kicks in and all proceeds as it should, the dialogue mentions some sort of magic field, if there is one i can't see it, not sure if it's metaphorical or actually supposed to be there, also first time when he warped to me i spoke to him, got all the talk about the pirate lord who obviously didn't appear, not where i was anyway, might have showed up in the proper place.

Other than that it's a great mod so far, look forward to the finished article :)

I shall probably play it through again but slower instead of resting between dates, all felt a bit rushed that way but i wanted to get through it, i think the breaks are a great idea though for making it seem more like a growing relationship and like these are busy people with lives to lead.

EDIT: Minor thing i just discovered when i tried to get into the Silver Fairy, as you enter it's rather cramped with doors that open towards you and companions who get in the way of them opening, took me ages to finally get a door open.

Yeesh! Make up your melon! Fine, no companion share it is. :P

I wonder if that's some sort of savegame corruption? Reason I ask is that other people have reported similar but it's only when reloading a savegame and it's a different activator every time. All activators are present: makes me suspect that it's just not picking up on them for some reason. Have you added, removed or otherwise changed any mod in your load order since starting with Arnie?

OK, I'll check that out and patch if necessary.

Ah, with companions ....

someone should have made open doors collision-free, like 6 years ago, original development ... the number of times, I had with 1 or 2 companions following, the first one passing shuts a door, and the other ... shut in or shut out ... or even, 1st one shutting before getting through ...

primitive, and so utterly un-British, and more of those, mhhh ....

lacking, on principles, and manners; P.G. Wodehouse's old-boy-style?

Reactions welcome (but don't run away with/from the thread, an implicit risk, from my reply)

Edit: or PM me, if you think it's needed
Cheers,
J.M.

Princess's half is pretty much finished, so I'd recommend playing that now if you want to.

My half might be done... uh... well, put it this way, I'm 18 months overdue on really STARTING it. Best not to ask when I'll FINISH it... though I will! Your children's children will appreciate it.

Not sure if this is fixable without MWSE, but when you sit down in the inn you have to requip your trousers once you stand up.

This was quite funny. Because I play a male character. So after avoiding homosixual contact with arnand imagine my dismay when the evie quest couldn't be completed :|
