Dangerous and creepy nights

Post » Sat Apr 09, 2011 9:09 am

Dark and scary nights for me too. It's tiresome that modders always have to address too light nights and interiors in Beth games. Ideally Skyrim will be more Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans than light glowy Oblivion. A longer day night cycle is a must too.

Werewolves, for one. Hear them jumping in the trees and in the bushes all around you. You're walking, you hear a noise, look back, nothing, dead silent. Turn back around.... LOUD noise as he's in front of you...

I want the nights realistically dark. Torches and other light sources should have to be used for something, and the phase of the moon should also affect how bright the night is.

Night is the time when this vampire sneaks into the house of a particularly annoying questgiver for a snack.

But it shouldnt be too dark. I hate games like that. Having to use a torch or spell is fine, but then they should actually light stuff.
I bought silent hill: homecoming and I will never finish that game. I cant. I cant see.
games are no fun when the whole screen is just one black patch with a pencil thin stripe of light that does not illuminate.

I didn't have any problems with SH: Homecoming. Good scary game. Maybe your gamma or monitor brightness levels were too low?

And when I say ghosts, I don't mean like OB ghost...lol. I want to be walking in the forest at night, and see something that looks like some kind of mass, walk by and dissapear behind a corner. Noises and stuff, make it REALLY creepy.

Not ghosts, skeletons or zombies. Running into a random 'horror' creature every 5 minutes when it's dark would get old quickly. Instead we should have nocturnal predators, such as wolves. Make it dangerous, but make it believable.

In cities, too. Muggers should roam the side-streets and alleys at night. When it's dark you should always be looking over your shoulder, and thinking twice before leaving the well patrolled main streets.

this. i want it to be darker and more dangerous at night

also i think my making it darker it wouldnt be "too dark" because of the snow, it would keep it from being pitch black imo

That's true, it's never too dark when there's snow. The areas that don't get much light should still be dark though.

but wouldn't that be the point. Nighttime is so overpopulated with random undead horror monsters that going out would be a nuisance and very hard/ scary. I see your point but night time with monstors should be tediously scary.

While I would like nights to be darker, I wouldn't want them to be a spawn fest for evil. I want it to be even lonelier than the day time personally. I wouldn't mind it if you would occasionally stumble across some zombie who left the shelter of his respective hell hole but I also want to be able to walk through the woods and stumble into a field and stare up at the awe inspiring stars without killing something every minute.

It shouldn't have monsters everywhere so you know what to expect. It would never be surprising that way.

I actually liked the way it was done in The Witcher - a perfectly calm village by night could turn in to one nasty place to be :D It would certainly add to the immersion.
But it although means that if we get to become a vampire or a werewolf they have to make sure we don't feel like we "don't belong", for example some of the night creatures should be indifferent to vamps and weres or something similar, and both vampires and werewolves should see better in the dark, not with some crappy night vision effect but the night just has to seam not as dark for them, so I can enjoy the beauty of Skyrim even if I hardly ever see it it by day.

Only in certain areas. I would really hate it if night time landscapes were covered in zombies... it would make the nights ridiculous and the zombies less scary. Better to leave zombies and ghouls to certain areas, to be encountered at unexpected times. They'd quickly lose their novelty if they were all over the place.

How about having a vampire spawn nearby at night, But make it a rare occurrence.

I would like it to be "Camping" dark. And the danger level should be dangerous but not like scary dangerous. Maybe a bandit would sneak up and try to kill you in your sleep.

I would like evil to be out no matter what just more often then usual at night for example: Whole day is Bandits etc etc and at night is when Dremora or whatever come out and kill innocents outside of the city

Two of my favourite Oblivion mods simply darken the nights and make caves darker. Makes night time and dungeon exploration tense ... fun .. rewarding.

What mods are they?

Not only do i prefer darker nights, but, i want to see a better use of sound at night. I want to hear howling creatures and the wind whipping through the trees. I thing that adds a lot to the atmosphere.
