Is it dangerous to play to much? 180 hours played and having

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 1:48 am

So according to steam Ive played 180 hours now, and Im having so much fun I cant stop!

Problem is that Im having headaches recently that keeps comming back after painkillers wear out. I drink lots of water, I eat healthily and I jog in the morning 3 days a week. My doctor, half a year ago, told me "Your colesterol level is something anyone would envy". So... Im physically in good health, but Im having painfull headaches OVER and OVER the past few days.

Can gaming to much be the cause? Is it strain on the eyes that does it?

Im at a loss cause I dont want to stop playing and i suspect playing to much skyrim may be the cause >.< I googled 180 hours in days and seemingly thats 7.5 days which cant be possible as the game has only been out 14 days O.o

If your monitor is too bright, it can cause headeaches. Are you playing in a dark room?

Uh... If you're starting to get headaches that don't usually occur when not playing the game, common sense dictates that you stop for a while.

Tbh, you sir are not playing enough! The more you play, the less pain you will feel. Eventually you will slip into some sort of coma and wake up in Skyrim.
Just remember where and from whom you heard it from! I expect a shrine of some sort as a token of gratitude once you get there. Preferably someplace close to Whiterun, home of the horse lords.

might be also dehydration....when you focus on gaming you usually forget to blink, drink and get constantly bombarded by glary glossy images....

takae an aspirin, drink a lot, go out for a walk...come back and look how you feel

i always get headaches and really red eyes from long hours with glossy screens (only glossy)

Dude to be honest I would stop and go for an hour long walk right now. Your body needs it. Games been out for two and a half weeks and you have played 180 hours? That is a really lot man. Im not trying to be a dike but seriously just get an hour of exercise and you will feel 100% better. Maybe even take a break from gaming for a day. Best of Luck.

I wear glasses yes. And my room is bright, would it be better to play in a dark room?

@Arach: I wish :D

Edit: Meh guess moar water and less soda may help. I feel I drink alot but thinking back that may not be entirely true.

I know how you feel. I have also been playing too much. As a result, I got a bad migrain.

Good question about glasses. If your dioptre? is not equal on both eyes that can cause headaches after your eyes get tired. I have that problem, my left eye is -0.75 and right -0.25 and even though its not much I do get headaches after spending lots of hours in front of monitor on the job and afterwards at home so, I was advised to wear glasses under such conditions and it helped a lot.

First, of course, is to make sure you get enough sleep as that's the number one cause for headaches.

Every game generally comes with a health recommendation nowdays that for every hour of play you take a 10 minute break. This is 10 minutes every hour btw, not play 6 hours then take an hour break.
You may be fit and healthy but focusing on anything for a long period of time may very well lead to headaches (think of it as your bodies way of saying 'give me a break! PLEASE!!).

When I play I find that I dont blink for ages and my eyes get dry n red. Coupled with funny ciggies it can be a problem with long sessions tho I generally only get to play 3 - 4 hrs max at a time.. Its only with this game. Sign of a good game I guess.

Ah who am I kidding, judging from your name you would probably sell me out to the first murky Argonian you could find. :)

And if Fox News happen to look at these boards for stuff to use in their "anti videogames" and "videogames equals violence and bad health" campaign.
- I was joking, this was a joke!

So now, let's shift your focus Fox News to me instead! Look at me while I'm poking this cold, blueish hobo in Winterhold with a sharp stick! :poke:

Funny you should mention this. I've been getting headaches as well, nothing too bad - but I've noticed it after playing Skyrim for extended periods. I don't think it's the game, I'd say it's a combination of dehydration and staring at the monitor for so long.

Water is not enough.

If you're frying your brain, you need to stop frying your brain. How much sleep are you getting? You need less time staring into a bright monitor and more pillow time. The first hour of sleep is reserved for physical maintenance, the brain needs the rest of night to sort out all the trash and impressions you collect all day. The body will always secure the first hour for mechanics, if you skip sleep it's the thinking part that suffers.

You can either eat more painkillers or play less and make sure you get those 7-8 hours dreaming of unicorms, rainbows and candy. I recommend more sleep.

Skyrim is great, but not worth brain damage great.
