I think Danse is the most ambiguous, and I like that part about his relationship. He falls for you because it's you. That's how I interpreted his relationship.
Depending on how you role play the game. For my MacGreedy, one of my characters love his wife, and that there could only be one woman for him and that's his wife. He could never be with another woman because she's the only one for him. That doesn't mean he can't open himself up to another man (Giggity). Both his wife and MacGreedy are special people to him, but there is only one special man and one special woman. I find MacGreey and the SS's relationship is very touching due to how similar they are, they both lost their wife, and they both care for their son. In the end, they found comfort in each other because they can relate to each other's situation. That, alongside with the wife's tape, leading him to siding with the Institute.
For my Danse's file, it's more about falling in love with the person. He doesn't see Danse as a man, he doesn't see Danse as a machine, he falls for Danse because he's Danse, because of what a standup Danse is. My SS becomes Danse's support pillar because he wants to give what little happiness Danse can find in his world. Danse himself said that for the first time in his life, he's happy. He feels for Danse, because just like him, Danse has lost everything he knows, his world turned upside down.
I haven't figured out the story I wanna tell with my female SS with Hancock yet, probably just want to piss off her dad in heaven by dating a drug addict. j/k
