So I killed lucien when he came to visit me (pretty early on in the game) and can no longer join the dark brotherhood. I'm trying to find a way around that now. I've tried using the console with the setstage/getstage commands but I can't gain entry through that stupid door that asks you what the color of night is. the only optional response is to do/say nothing and walk away.

Am I screwed? Is it possible to remove a quest stage, in my case dark01knife 115 (that's the stage that says i've killed lucien and all ties are lost).

I admit I only performed a single search in this forum regarding my issue. That's because when the first search failed and I tried to perform another search it told me I needed to wait 300 seconds, that's right 5 minutes, before performing another search.

Reload a save before you killed him.

I recommend starting another character for the Dark Brotherhood quests.

Reload, if you have a save, or else, you need to make a new character.
