Dark Brotherhood Improvement

Post » Sat Oct 02, 2010 9:58 am

Some people clearly had some heavy black eyeshadow. Yes, it's possible to do that in Oblivion.

Look, the Dark Brotherhood kills people for money. That's how it was in Daggerfall, that's how it was in Morrowind. All of this Sithis and Night Mother weird religion stuff was Oblivion's way to make them seem more evil. They're simply assassins for hire.

The Dark Brotherhood kills people for money, that's still how it is in Oblivion. The Night Mother was referenced in books in Morrowind, and I think the addition of the religion-esque aspect in Oblivion was to make the Dark Brotherhood different from the Morag Tong. Instead of openly issuing honorable writs of execution, people must more discreetly pray to the Night Mother in order to get their desires met since it is not legal honorable execution, but quiet and discreet murder. It's what is to be expected in a fantasy setting, really.

Well, Night-Mother actually stems from Morrowind.

I don't mind if Sithis is in there, and I don't even mind that they've completely misunderstood it by personifying IS-NOT and change, but if they're going to have those elements in there, they conversely have to enable the player to understand different ideas of what Sithis is. Thanks to Oblivion, only the one view was presented, leading the player to assume it was the only valid view.

Right, there may have been religious aspects to the DB in previous games, but it was definatly not presented in the same freaky cult way as Oblivion.

If the Dark Brotherhood is included, I only hope that they go more in-depth with it. Who or what is Sithis really? Is it just a concept that the faction holds on to or is it Mephala tricking her former Morag Tong members into still serving her? Or is it Lorkhan? Or what?

Beyond that, if the DB is in Skyrim, I just hope that the quests are just as interesting as they were in Oblivion. It was so much fun sneaking around, killing people in less-than-traditional ways in order to complete contracts and get bonuses. The Whodunit? quest was one of my favorites in the entire game.

we already know what Sithis is...

Right, and there's no way that Sithis speaks to his followers and can give out blessings at an altar because Sithis is a concept of chaos. So I meant who is Sithis in the sense of who is it that is supposedly speaking to these Dark Brotherhood members and to the Night Mother? You cannot serve something that has no whims.

I read somewhere that someone said(a long time ago) that Sithis is a primodeal force, rather than a person/god or something directly tangible. The best equivilent would be the force of gravity, or electromagnetism. You can measure it's effects but you can't communicate with as it's an insentient fundamental force.

Makes the whole cult thing the Ob DB have going on, both odd and slightly comical(worshipping gravity lol); if of course my understanding of Sithis is correct.

But regardless I kinda liked the DB but I hope for improvements in areas that other people have already mentioned.

As far as the whole moragtong/DB rivalry goes we know the brotherhood is in, but i wouldn't be surprised if the moragtong has a presence as well skyrim does share a border with morrowind and i think i read something about morrowind putting some pressure on skyrim?

The Dark Brotherhood, if I recall, is supposed to be the no-questions-asked, "business first" guild as they were in Daggerfall. It's the Morag Tong that are supposed to be the honorable, ritualized killers who enjoy their work beyond the formalities of their contracts. They're much more badass.

Skyrim's iteration of the Dark Brotherhood has to be less over the top. They had some religious elements, such as from their caste system, but they shouldn't be some completely fanatical cult like they were in Oblivion. They're mercenaries, first and foremost - we can see from Tribunal that they care more about business than any silly family/emo involvement.

Excellent alternatives, almost ended in me picking everyone! I'd really like to see more unique items though, with unique appearances and enchantments.

It would be cool to get caught by the guards while doing a DB quest though! "STOP!!! You violeted the law!"

Good thinking - more sanctuaries, scattered around Skyrim in dungeons and caves and whatnot. In OB there was only two really; Fort Fagut (IIRC) and the one in Cheydinhal.

AND FINALLY ::: More unique personalities. I'm not saying personalities were lacking, but a bigger variety of 'em would be nce to see. Someone simular to the DB orc. I really liked him, I must say.

Being the headmaster would be too overpowered, as you could basically kill every character in the game without actually fighting them. However, there should be more quests in Dark Brotherhood. You should start out without access to the sanctuary, and after that, you'd gain acces to the first sanctuary. Then later on, you'd gain access to all sanctuaries.

And don't make us kill all the cool guys we got to embrace as family like we did in Oblivion, that was outright annoying and stupid way of continuing the storyline!

I would love for their to be more than one sanctuary.
and most of I do not want to massacre my own guild!
and yes there should be something after you beat the quest line, maybe random npcs can be generated and you have to murder them.

Im happy with all of those changes right there, I disliked having a sanctuary with 4 people (3 un-named) and only using it as a place to get the Night mother money.

A lot more quests, a lot more complex and a lot more fun of course. Dark Brotherhood was my favourite guild in Oblivion and I'm hoping to repeat that experience with Skyrim.

Bethesda didn't put as much proficiency into the other guilds as much as they did with the Brotherhood.

The rewards were all over the top.

It was as if joining the Brotherhood was a part of the main quest line.

If they include it again, I pray they will put just as much effort into the other factions.

Edit: Nerf the fxxking Brotherhood.

No - buff the other guilds so that they are as interesting in terms of rewards and story as the DB! :P

Agree. I would love to have them less fanatical and honorful, and just being greedy and rich murderers instead.

I would also have LOVED to meet Lucien Lachance walking around in a city as a normal NPC. Just think of it! Seeing him walking around the streets of Cheydinhal in a fancy outfit, traveling to the Tiber Septim Hotel, meeting other rich friends, and then when night falls mr Lachance switches his glittery upper-class outfit in favor for a robe black as night, before he goes to meet his loyal assassins of the Brotherhood in a dark, secluded sanctuary. :)

I would love to recieve more specific assassin/stealth gear and not only a improved dagger. For example you could recieve a grapple hook as a bonus item, which you can use later on to make some specific quest easier. You could also recieve apparel that makes you move more silent etc.

"Mwahahahaha! I love wearing black make-up and causing pain!"

The Dark Brotherhood is a serious group of assassins who kill people, not some cheesy cult. Perhaps "emo" was the wrong word.

They aren't goth, and what's wrong with black makeup? I liked the dark Dark brotherhood. I won't join them if they make them less darker.

Since it seems that execution will be present in Skyrim, wouldnt it be cool if the remaining parts of the Skyrim government had its own group of assasins that hunted down outlaws?

I disagree but I know where you're coming from. A lot of the reaction to the DB was very much "DARK BROTHERHOOD RAWWWRR SO EVIL" but that wasn't the case at all. The members of the Dark Brotherhood were all nice and friendly and it was not "evil" at all. Sure, it was dark and violent, but it was merely sadistic, not "evil."

Uh huh, if the Dark Brotherhood isnt evil then what would you class as evil?

I definitely agree with that. I remember once I joined the Dark Brotherhood, I went to the Count of Cheydinhal and was disappointed to find out that I could not mention the abandoned house to him. I know it says he refused to acknowledge its existence, but I would have at least expected him to stammer and nervously dismiss the idea if you brought it up to him. It also would be nice to see some type of reaction to the player wearing Dark Brotherhood armor in public. For example, in the Whodunit? quest, you could walk in with Dark Brotherhood armor on and a dagger drawn, but everyone's just like "HI :) "
A bit ridiculous.

When the hell are any of the members emo? They were all happy and cheery.

This. I agree. People don't say the Morah Tong is evil

Please just make the members less bubbley. They're murderers, I think they should be a little more reclusive and serious. They kill people for a living. The " tehe I kill people, yaaaaay!" was annoying, and comical. I want dark and creepy, thank you very much.

Leading one sanctuary would be good as top rank (higher ranks not obtainable by PC)

Special armour for the Dark Brotherhood is ridiculous. I never understood that in OB. The Brotherhood is suppose to be extremely secretive and running around in special Dark Brotherhood armour is just plain silly.

If there is Dark Brotherhood armour people should react accodingly. Scream assassin and call the guards or something....

Dark Brotherhood is NOT emo.

I don't know where you guys keep getting this from.

Just incase you guys aren't on the same page, emo = emotional.

Everyone in the Dark Brotherhood is happier than a carebear.

Anyway.

Death to the Brotherhood.

Morag Tong babeh.

Actually the term "Emo" comes from a man called Emo Phillips, he was known to be very depressing and a bit of a weirdo so please do some research before you explain the term
