Dark Brotherhood or Morag Tong

Post » Fri Jul 30, 2010 4:34 pm

It seems possible that since the Dunmer have already suffered terrible losses, they would be less accepting of rampant assassination as a method of resolving political disputes. Also with the Dunmer's situation being pretty shaky, some Morag Tong assassin targeting a Nord and causing Skyrim kingdoms to declare war on the Dunmer's refugee town would be the last thing they want.

So I doubt they could exist as a joinable assassin faction to rival the Dark Brotherhood, but it could be interesting to see what happens to them in a quest or two. Maybe they would have to give up assassination and evolve into a different role (since their overall purpose was to prevent war between the Houses), or maybe the citizens turn against them and their legal status would be revoked, or they kill someone they shouldn't have and people are split between sheltering them or turning them in to the Empire/Nords.

If I had to pick one it'd be the Morag Tong since they're legal, but it would be cool if they included both and made them mutually exclusive (which totally wouldn't happen since there would be too much gameplay value missed).

Because it's impossible to play through the game more than once, right? Bah, Short Attention Span Theater.

Put'em both in, make'em mutually exclusive, and have the quest lines cross over: whichever you join (if either) sends you to infiltrate the other and annihilate from within.

Besides...if the Dark Brotherhood is as cheesy and over-the-top as in Oblivion, we need something semi-serious to offset the silliness. :P

Morag Tong was cheesy. The whole honorable assassin was meh. Give us some dark and gritty assassins with a sense of darkness. I like the Sithis worship and entrail eating references, but they were a tad too happy, the Dark brotherhood I mean.

Give us the Crimson Scars!

It would be cool to have a whole new restructured Morag Tong, seeing as they wouldn't operate in the same manner outside of Morrowind (especially now that Morrowind is an Argonian territory). But as long as the Dark Brotherhood stops being the Goth Brotherhood I'll be happy. :yuck:

I can't decide what I like better. We already have the Dark Brotherhood returning but what about the Morag Tog? What would you rather have?

Id have them both, so they could have a war.

Neither are that compelling on their own - but their rivalry definitely has potential.

eating entrails and being dark just because your'e an assassin is cheesy. Morag Tong worked because they were more concerned about doing their job than staying out late at graveyards dancing in circles and chanting just because they weren't among the cool kids in school.

If I had to choose, I'd pick the Morag tong over the cheezy DB anytime.
But I'd like both actually. I finally want them to confront each other, and the PC to choose he's side.

I don't know much about the Morag Tong since I am only just getting into Morrowind so I will not vote in this poll. I would like to say that I would like both groups to be in the game as joinable factions and maybe have a war between them where you have to choose a side. I for one choose DB because I like to be evil.

Maybe the Morag Tong could have its ranks bolstered by Dark Brotherhood members who are tired of their irritating, puppy kicking, self harming friends. :teehee:

Both would be awesome. Then I would end up with two assassin characters.

Didn't like the Morag Tong in Morrowind and don't really want to see them again.
The Dark Brotherhood on the other hand was one of the best things in Oblivion. And I would love to see them again.

I've seen this said a few times by a few people and was just curious as to why you thought they were one of the best things in oblivion? Was it their quests or them themselves?

Actually I doubt any gameplay value would be missed at all.Everyone I know who plays TES games plays through the game more than once and with multiple characters.
Therefore if your first character joined the Morag Tong and took out the Dark Brotherhood.I gaurantee the next character you play with joins the Dark Brotherhood and takes out the Morag Tong.
Bethesda should know by now that the majority of players play through their games multiple times with multiple characters.
They should also know that there is a long time in between each instalment of TES series, thus focusing on replay value should be on their to do list.

They are sworn enemies after-all, and it would be a nice reflection of how the Civil War in Skyrim are forcing people to take sides.

They sort've lost their legality after the death of the tribunal, the destruction of Morrowind and it's conquering by Argonians, the dissolving of the empire whom they kept their legality through a treaty with the empire and lastly, it being Skyrim and not Morrowind so they aren't legal in that province. They are more along the lines of the Dark Brotherhood now, being illegal except they don't have the resources that the Dark Brotherhood do.

The problem with having the DB and Morag Tong, is that you won't able to join both. It seems Morrowind and Oblivion sent you down the path that you would be able to experince everything, and not being able to join both would go against that.

Hell us Argonians cut off those Dumner head and put 'em on spikes! But the remaining dunmer might have had some morag tong within their damn ranks! And I'm sure those greedy gray skinned dirtfaces still consider the Morag Tong legal. Infact so legal that dunmer guards might exept a writ of execution while others would be smart enough to spit them in the face before chopping it off!

Actually, Morrowind didn't allow you to experience everything, especially when you factor in quests that'll cause you to
  • Kill every head in the faction
  • Greatly displeasing a faction, that they'll flat out refuse you
  • Your skills do not match what they want'
  • 1 great house per character, unless you exploit the Hlaalu bug

It was OB that broke the mold of not being able to join every organization.

On topic, the Morag Tong is dead, the dunmer are nothing but refugees, and their entire culture is dead. The MT are also illegal everywhere, but Morrowind. However, Morrowind isn't the dunmer's anymore, and the DB has a helluva lot more experience operating underground, where as the MT don't. Not to mention, the DB would be more than happy to eliminate MT members as they cross the Skyrim border, as the DB does not like competition in the least bit.

With the DB, however, more cold business attitude with dark humor and less death cult.
