Dark brotherhood Quest-ion

Post » Wed Apr 14, 2010 12:12 pm

So... I'm on a contract for The Dark Brotherhood and It said I have to kill Baenlin in Bruma, climb up on the secondfloor crawlspace or sumfin'.

BUT IT'S SO HARRRRRRRDD. anyway what is a crawlspace? I've tried the very small space of the floor that kinda sticks out of the wall but it's too small to stand on.

How do I do it?

If my memory serves me, you go up to the second floor and you find a small door there, leading to a tiny dark space with a view to the victim below.

Finding the door is simple, just follow the arrow. The hard part is sneaking past him and his guard.

Of course, you can just kill him normally and forfeit your bonus if you keep failing.

You need to wait for him to sit in his favourite chair underneath that stuffed bulls head, then sneak past him and his guard upstairs.

Upstairs, there should be a hidden door that leads to the crawlspace (the space between walls). In the crawlspace, you'll find the rope that is keeping the bull head on the wall above his head.

The rest is obvious

first you need 1 invisibliity poton prefrably a long one just in case at 3 in the morning when its dark breack in and in the nords room there is the crawlspace go in and go a bit away from the door wait untill the right time and then relese the stuffed head by clicking on the fastenings then wait about 3 seconds and open the cralw space door as soon as it starts to open use the potion and when your at the basemant door make shure you cant see him so he cant see you open it then go out threw the otherbasment door where you came in then fast trval to cheydenhall to get your bones and reward and the reward is realy cool in my opinion good for roleplay i wont tell you what it is but asassins use it more than anything else for close combat what it is in general i mean

I've never used an invisibility potion during this quest - its very easy. All you have to do is wait until he sits in his chair (i think its about 8pm?) sneak past him and his guard, they are pretty stupid so dont worry about invisibity. Head to the right when you come into the house, up the stairs and into a bedroom, open the panel in the wall and loosen the fastenings.

The head will fall and kill Baenlin - then just sneak back out. The wood elf is dead and Gromm will be standing with his back to the door weeping over his dead master - an easy escape.

Job done.

What Distilledwill said. Also, unless your Sneak skill is high enough to give you the perk that makes you as quiet while running as you are walking (natural 75 skill), you'll want to walk; if your natural Sneak skill is below 50, take off your shoes as well. I'm not sure if having the Shrouded Armor equipped counts as wearing shoes or boots; surely someone else does, however, but if you want to play it safe, wear regular clothing without footwear. Also if you've come across any Chameleon items, wear them; but it's not necessary to seek them out for the purposes of this quest. Save your invisibility potions for the next quest. M'raaj-Dar sells Invisibility potions and I recommend getting them for that next quest.

Also: it is very important that you do not enter through the front door; Baenlin will see you, get up (if he's in his chair) and tell you to get out; thus ruining the attempt for the night (even if he wasn't in the chair), and you'll have to try again tomorrow.

I normaly enter through the basemant late at night when both are sleeping (around 3AM) and get into the crawl space before they wake up. Then just hang out for the next 15-16 hours. Pass the time by training skills like sneak or some magic skills. Around 6PM I start fireing off my "Detect Life" spell untill someone is sitting almost directly below me. That's when I loosen the mounted minotaur head and slip out while Gromm is still in shock. Long as you are not trying it in a full suit of heavy armor it's a near fool-proof way to do the quest, even though it does take longer.

Option B....Screw the bonus and just butcher them both, along with any guards that show up. Unlikely you'll ever use Sufferthorn so not earning it won't cause any problems.

I like Sufferthorn. When you deliver the killing blow, npcs shoot up into the air about 6 feet and fall into a crumpled heap. :foodndrink:

I have to say, I do actually usually enter through the front door! I don't think he's ever seen me, I do tend to walk it though. Also, I would avoid going in at 3am - you will be trespassing and so will not be able to "wait" out the remaining and will actually have to sit there until the following night when he finally sits down. I did this accidently once and had to sit there for HOOOURS - of course you could use to console to set the time to go faster!
