Dark Brotherhood or Thieves Guild

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 4:12 am

I'm busy making a new character... A nord with Imperial blood that is about to join the Civil War on the Imperial Side...
The character is mostly stealth-related and now I've two options of faction I want him to join besides the Legion: The Thieves Guild or the Dark Brotherhood.
I don't think I'm gonna join both cuz it would make my character to much a mess.

So I'm asking which Guild will be most fun to join considering the following facts:
-The best main quest story
-The best Hideout
-The best limited Items
-The best side-quests/ repeatable end-game missions (preferably missions that lead you to dungeons)
-The least bugs
-The best integrated in the game (being adressed as a rookie while being the guildmaster for example of how it's not supposed to be)

Thieves Guild if you're joining the Legion.

(extremely major Dark Brotherhood)
Spoiler
You kill the Emperor in the final DB mission

Dark Brotherhood EASILY - best armour/equipment - coolest by far
but as the spoiler says, you basically cannot be Imperial if you are DB

Thieves Guild is the best Guild of the four.

Thieves Guild is the best Guild of the four.

But why would you steal, when you can just assassinate and then take from their dead body?

I personally wanted to kill all the Thieves Guild, and try to perge Riften of all that was wrong with it (including killing Maven Black-Briar which I tried but failed due to being unable to die) Other than that, I've only played through the Dark brotherhood missions which, I surprisingly enjoyed.

Well If I joining the DB I already planned my character to be decieved by Mephala and that he goes a bit nuts ala Jackall and Hyde... so that doesn't bother that much I guess right?

Yeah Maven Black-Briar is a total Biatch.

BUT THERE IS NO CONCEIVABLE WAY THAT YOU CAN BE IMPERIAL AND JUSTIFY YOUR ACTIONS ON THE KATARIAH

Yeah, we should've been able to "cleanse" Riften.

Let's just say the DB questline involves something very, very anti-Imperial.

Oh yes you can, the thing is an assassin doesn't care about if his target is an important person or if he is a unknown bum. He kills for money, and the rest doesn't really matter. The target could be whoever it is, if the payment is good enough well then he will do it.

I know.. I've accidently read it in the Timeline of the Fourth Era on the UESP :P but I already thought it would be explained that well... "Jackal" is the Imperial Lover... but she's tottaly gone when Mephala lover "Hyde" takes over...

Purely subjective:

-The best main quest story

I felt the Thieve's Guild ha the better story, but dark brotherhood had the better characters.

-The best Hideout

Thieve's Guild. Can quest to improve it, some useful stuff. No guild master's quarters though, AFAIK, so if you're in to that kind of stuff, darkbro' has you covered.

-The best limited Items

dark brotherhood, only and completely - If you use daggers that is. You'll know why. (If you look in the perks menu, you'll see 15X backstab damage as a perk. Now imagine 30X.) - apart from that though, they're pretty equal. As in, they have gear that kinda boost the same-ish stuff... Oh, and a certain horse makes a comeback. :P

-The best side-quests/ repeatable end-game missions (preferably missions that lead you to dungeons)

Thieve's Guild only and completely. db has repeatable "kill dudes" quest, thieve's guild has the better variety... pickpocketing, burglary's (houses), break-ins (shops), etc.

-The least bugs

I encountered none, so can't answer about this one.

-The best integrated in the game (being adressed as a rookie while being the guildmaster for example of how it's not supposed to be)

Dark Brotherhood. Thieve's guild keep's addressing me with greetings like "So, you're brynjolf's new protoge?". No, I'm the guild master, perhaps you've heard of me.
I hear about DB stuff on the streets and such + the hideout, it's better.

I think DB would fit better (Legion is war, your character just generally likes to kill things?)

DB quests are very anti-imperial, but includes a huge payout.

Thieves guild are pretty neutral, but you can do infinite side quests for money. Those same side quests also unlock a special mission after you do 5 in one town, unlocking a new merchant, possibly new fence, and more money for tonilia in the thieves guild, great for selling all your loot. Once you've "conquered" a town, guards will occasionally comment about the thieves guild controlling it.

I personally like Thieves Guild better. DB would be good if you join stormcloak side.

Do any of the DB or Thieves quests become these quests that will take you to dungeons like the Companions do?

Oh, you know modders will address this, and hopefully have something to correct the wrongs suffered by Sapphire too...maybe?!?

Meh it's pretty easy to work around if you give your character a back story.
Spoiler
The death of Titus Mede isn't necessarily cataclysmic for the empire anyway; while he did his part in leading the charge, he also surrendered when many considered that the war might have been won. He has a sufficient group of military leaders and officers to continue fighting in his absence, and martial law would be better for the empire in some respects for the simple reason that the Thalmor's political infiltration would be undermined. That is of course assuming he doesn't have an heir, which he may well do.

The spoiler has nothing to do with my back story, but it's something to think about if you want to go Imperial, but don't want to undermine your aims.

She's also in both DB and TG.

Except, by being dragonborn you have the right to his position. So yes, you can still be imperial and justify the actions on the Katariah.

No, Just random towns. I've killed the same person TWICE as part of DB forever quests :)
I didn't mind because she gives a really ironic line right before you kill her - "I'm so tired, I feel like I could sleep forever" or something like that.

Indeed, and Thieve's Guild has only been a means to get you into cities, houses and shops.
