Dark Elf just dont care

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 4:33 pm

They weren't more friendly to a Dark Elf because the game is old... and they try to say it's because you have an accent (I assume you're voice isnt raspy like theirs).

I didnt like how Skyrim seemed to be made for a Nord and Morrowind was made for a Dunmer. Oblivion got it right. In Oblivion you actually start out as a nobody. You're not destined to do anything and you're in a cosmopolitan province where all the races have equal footing. An Argonian or Khajiit CoC actually seems plausible.

Ok that doesnt make any sense. if this is some reference to that "morrowind lore" conversation pick, where you find out that dunmer hate outlanders, especially foreign born dunmer.. i never had an issue. errbody loved me in the end. Hell I had Berrel Sala(I know i just destroyed the actual spelling of his name) the chief ranking ordinator on vvardenfell tucked into my belt. Why? I joined the temple. Cant go wrong there. Even though i was a telvanni. But a Telvanni ArchcanonMagister, who also happened to be a Primate of the Imperial Cult, and an N'wah Outlander S'wit of a heretical Nereverine. Dispositon Sala: 100. Before Vivec's Pardon and post his declaration of me as a heretic(paradox anyone). BOO YA you and your "cant play as dunmer"..

I AM THE DUNMER....(Im not serious)

You're still an outlander, you weren't born and raised in Morrowind. You didn't have the right accent, the right clothing, right way of walking or talking... The Dunmer hate outlanders because they destroy their culture, what's worse some foreigner that destroys and goes against their culture, or a Dark Elf doing the same? The first is an enemy, the second is a traitor.

Of course you can still become a member of the Temple, lead a great House and what not, and that will earn you respect and might make you accepted into their culture (at least for a great many), yet you still start out a traitor.

They weren't more friendly to a Dark Elf because the game is old... and they try to say it's because you have an accent (I assume you're voice isnt raspy like theirs).

While I agree with Skyrim, as in Nords make the most sense... How does Morrowind favor Dunmer? I don't see it, there is no difference there. The only thing that could be said for favoring Dunmer is that Dunmer are Azura's people (or sort of) and that Nerevar was a Dunmer... On the other hand the same argument can be made for the Nerevarine then being an Altmer, as they are more like Chimer were and Azura might just want to show of what used to be instead of what is now... Regardless, in Morrowind you are a foreigner.

I'm on the position that an imperial could make a pretty decent nerevarine. That poetic sense of "Aha, the gods are playing a joke. Let's learn a lesson in swallowing pride, yadayada." Then there's that whole meta-thing with it REALLY being a joke, or rather, some super obtuse scheme by Azura.

Oblivion could be any race, i think. More of a stop-evil adventure story, rather than a prophecy-test. Or was it? Hum.
No, khajiit or Saxhleel would be even better.

The reason the Dunmer keep getting screwed over is because they're constantly asking for it, to the point that their primary pantheon - Azurah, Boethiah, and Mephala - are all about screwing over their worshipers for [censored] and giggles. The dunmer screwed themselves over from the very beginning, and they have much the same problem as any Dwarf Fortress from that titular game - If they are ever doing well for themselves, it's only because it's much more fun to watch a house of hundreds of decks or chain of thousands of dominoes fall down than to knock down a house of seven cards or string of three dominoes fall down.

Really - They worship the gods of treachery and backstabbing (Boethiah), Deception and plots (Mephala), and Screwing Your Worshippers Over While Looking Nice (Azura) - I think the last one's choice to frequently go topless helps with her "I'm Not Evil" facade.

To debate whether Helseth is truly Dunmer, to debate the merits of adhering to true Dunmer culture or to the culture of the Imperials, is to remain trapped in an illusory dichotomy. If someone is in a position to ask, "Shall I be Imperial or Dunmer?", then that person cannot truly choose either; they're already in a culture that has both Imperial and Dunmer antecedents.

Hell, isn't the Dunmeri version of Lorkhan all about screwing people over for personal gain (mostly godhood)?

The entire Dunmer way of thought is to be anti-Altmer. If Altmer think it's bad, it's good. If they think it's good, it's bad.

But Helseth is Barenziah's son.
And at the time of Tribunal, Barenziah is still very much alive.
I dont really think Helseth has that much to say, I think it is all bluff and bluster.
I dont think his mother, after all that time and all she witnessed and went through, would release any hold she might have.
Barenziah is a master politician.
Helseth, like the son of Potema, I think they only exist as extensions of their mothers really.

Maybe she died at Red Year, but I think quite likely not. As Terry Pratchett′s Cohen the Barbarian, surviving is a habit you get good at with age.
Similarly I also think Fyr is still alive.
Books such as A Game at Dinner however, prove that Helseth is a genius in his own right and not merely a puppet.

It seems to me the dumner are the battered women of TES.One of the tribunal has said basicly "If you stop loving me I will kill you".One of their "good" daedra cursed them and they responded by rationalizing well it makes us special.

So Mer up dumner.

Exactly. It's the Altmeri version of events, but with Lorkhan as the protagonist.
According to Sithis, which may or may not be the dunmer creation myth (even if not, is very dunmer and about creation) presents Lorkhan as a liar, trickster, and above all an example to be followed.

As matter of record, the Prince and the Queen have not officially stated whether the letter is a work of pure imagination or based on an actual occurrence. The http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:House_Dres has publicly denounced the work, and indeed, no one named Dhaunayne, despite the suggestions in the letter, has ever been linked to the house. We leave the reader to interpret the letter as he or she believes.

Dunmer seem to be the antithesis of the Orsimer... I respect the latter FAR more than the former.

Then the Dunmer are staying true to Veloth. If they're doing their own culture right, you shouldn't respect them. You should look at them as shady, aloof bastards who would slit your throat for stealing a crumb of their sweetrolls.

Perhaps.if anything I liked it more that my Dunmer was more hated initially.i wasn't welcome. An outcast journeyed far neath moon and star.a dark elf come home but not welcome tho he is nerevar. And after level 20 almost no Dunmer didnt like me. Most called me sera. Or smiled and said wealth beyond measure.why?cause I earned their respect.i wasn't some [censored] imperial Dunmer. Or I wasnt some patronizing sniveler.kissing ass to saryoni or the drens.i stood my ground. Did my [censored]. Killed me some s'wits when I had to like at the council club balmora.changed the land.they looked at me and saw a true bastard son of resdayn. I was auras lost sheep come home. If I were to play as a different race id play as an imperial. Idk know why it just feels right. Listen guys I'm not telling you what should be.i dont believe that's true to the heart of tes.im arguing for my reasons. They're just my feelings not facts.

Skyrim isn't hospitable to any race really. If you're a Nord you have to be an idiot one who knows nothing about his culture. I'm able to roleplay a Altmer Dragonborn just fine.

But anyway it will be like this for any place that's not Cyrodil. Considering what the majority race is being an Outsider is far more immersible.

Edit: But still, Dunmer don't deseve to be punished. An entire race cannot be blamed for something, even if a lot of their culture was cruel. Don't forget that the Temple offered charity to the poor, unlike the Temple of the Nine Divines.

Dragonborn doesn't know there was a Great War, that Talos was banned, what the Concordat is, ect. If you go by Skyrim's dialoge, Dragonborn is barely functional.

I think some people just need a little toughening up. So what if the Dunmer lied about you settling in, institutionalized racism, and worshipped jealous and paranoid gods?

Slaves?

Boo bloody hoo.

Some people are N'wahs, get over it.

I found that pretty odd too. Hell, my Dunmer Dragonborn didn't even call Dunmer Dunmer, not once. It only gave me options to refer to them as 'dark elves'. RiDIRKulous, to rehash an old argument, would you call a Yokudan 'dark man'?

Question: Dunmer support the more mannish beliefs (supporting Lorkhan), right? Because In "Dunmer of Skyrim", it concludes with "...while higher beings plot their destruction"

The race itself wasn't punished - The dunmer outside of Morrowind are and were doing just fine. The entire culture was built around backstabbing and worshipping the three "gods" who were big on screwing their followers over.

Dark Elves: "Azura, Boethia, Mephala! Save your loyal servants from destruction"
Daedric Princes: "After all the time we put into setting this chain of highly amusing catastrophe up, you think you can change our minds? Its much more amusing to watch you all burn - oh look! I think your sister just caught fire!" (Cue laughter of amusemant from the Daedric Princes)

Yes, they deserved it, because they were asking for it. If you don't want to get kicked in the groin, don't go up to the God of Groin-kicking and offer to serve them and expect them to need you for anything but a practice target for their boot.
