"Driver, bring us to those buildings at our four 'o'clock! And signal the convoy to prepare to dismount; we've found something," Lucas pointed in the direction of the building and the driver quickly got on the radio and signaled the rest of the convoy. Lucas prepared his rifle and put on his gas mask as he thought to himself. For miles all Lucas had seen was dust and the occasional hill or crater; this made the buildings a very welcome site.
We've found something. Thank god we've finally found something.
When they arrived Lucas jumped out of the truck, the dirt crunching under his boots as he aimed his rifle at the nearest building. He could hear the APC's doors opening and the marines bursting out. The combined noise of their boots and the roar of the engines made a very intimidating sound; one that made Lucas sorry for anyone in those buildings. They took positions and aimed their weapons at the buildings, ready for anything. They waited for the five vehicle convoy to slow to a halt and give cover to the marines. Their only tank, dubbed the 'Cerebus', aimed its gun towards the buildings waiting to launch its heavy ordnance if given the order. The entire dark marines force waited for a few minutes to see if anyone, or anything, would reveal itself from the structures, but nothing came. Realizing it was safe, Lucas gave his orders.
"Okay let's move it marines I want a full scan of the perimeter and if anything moves shoot it! Watch out for radiation and mines now move it!"
The marines shouted their replies and the men spread out in perfect formation. The sergeants led their squads forward cautiously, scanning the shattered windows for any signs of movement. Even traveling through a barren desert for weeks hasn't hurt their coordination and skill. Lucas would be glad to tell them that they wouldn't be traveling any longer. This was their new home whether they liked it or not. It had to be; they had no choice. None of them did.
