Dark Room

I think some dungeons or locations should be pitch dark (very very few) that require a torch/light spell to see anything, just for horror, and eerie suspense, anyone agree?? elaborate! :)

The Oblivion's light from no where bugged me so yes I want dark dark dungeons. Out of 150 there should be at least 40 of them like that

Unless theres an obvious light source they should be dark.
Tombs shouldn't have light sources, places used by people like bandits would have but not so many its like a shopping mall at Xmas

It would add realism to the game and make things like torches and light staffs (as seen in the gameplay footage) actually useful. All dungeons/ruins without torches or the like should be pitch black.

There could even be some random scripted even, like seeing a shadow move.

Or having a gust knock out your torch, then when you re-light it a Draugr is hissing in your face.

Yes to this. It'll make torches (or night-eye) more useful, and more of a necessity. In Oblivion, my TVs natural brightness was enough to illuminate most dungeons, it killed the creepiness. Maybe in some Skyrim dungeons, it can be absolute darkness, as in you can't see a thing, unless you have a torch or night-eye. If you don't have them, you're screwed.

As far as I can tell by the screens and gameplay videos, the light-from-nowhere is back in Skyrim. :sadvaultboy:

It's not from nowhere. The light is from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invisible http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bioluminescence http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mold

funny thing was that i never did configure oblivion's contrast, so the game was really dark for me. if it went dark i really had to take a torch or i was blind :P. it was scary though if you heard enemies coming.

Yes, please. I hated that about OBs caves. There was no point for torches in that game, even if you had the brightness all the way down.

I was fine with the light levels in Oblivion and Fallout 3 dungeons. Still needed a torch or light spell if you wanted to see clearly, but even without them you could still see the artwork and generally where you were going.

(I've seen the screenshots for some of those "Really Dark Caves/Ruins/Nights" mods.... and they seem really unpleasant.

I'd love darker dungeons! The crypt we saw in the E3 demo was so well lit it killed the mood and atmosphere completely.

Fair enough, some places should have either natural lighting (like the caves we saw in the demo) or lights if they've been disturbed recently; but if i'm walking into an ancient tomb or dungeon that's been undisturbed for thousands of years, I expect there to be next to no light at all and to have to use a torch to see where i'm going.

Maybe Bethesda could learn something from games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

^ Hell yes.

I'm all for it. Being a former Force Recon Marine, I'm all about playing stealth-based characters (exclusively, lol). Gimme darkness and a modified version of "Night Eye" and I'll be a very happy Leatherneck! lol

1 hit, 1 kill.

heh heh heh

Exactly.

In Oblivion torches and light spells were useless, and it's a lot more realistic and scary if dungeons are a lot darker.

Although I fear it'll be just like in Oblivon, I don't have much hope here.

Yeah like in the gates to aesgaard ep1-2. I love those mods, it's quite creepy, and has really cool cutscenes. (well, 'visions', not really cutscenes.)

I agree a little darker would be better overall and especially for undisturbed ruins. If there will be light then it should have an obvious environmental source eg. hole in the roof of a cave or an ayelid stone that is flourescent. I also like the idea of being able to cast light spells on the environment like was shown in the demo. It might also be cool if ancient dungeons had torches adorning the walls that could either be taken down or lit on fire to illuminate passage ways. Also, non-hostile rats that I can illuminate and then watch scurry about might be really creepy when they run over the foot of some nasty creature.
