Dark Seas

Post » Mon Aug 23, 2010 4:26 pm

First off, I would just like to thank Ambrose for assisting me with the story, and checking it out for any possible Lore problems. I think it's safe to say this is lore sound and friendly? There are still some mistakes in the writing, but I haven't had time to sift through them all, so there will be come. Besides that, enjoy!! :)
----------------------------------------------

Dark Seas

Fourth Era 6

The sea was calm and relaxed as the ship known as the Staghound, a large Brigantine ship; gently moved through the calm sea. The crew was in their cots reading, smoking, and just talking with one another as the water splashed against the sides of the ship. The captain, a hallowed out shell of a man, who went by the name Captain Augustus “The Fiend” Ustral. His ship, the Staghound was one of the fastest ships for its size. Captain Augustus had been captain of the Staghound for twelve years or more.

His crew had survived the Oblivion Crisis, and had fought off many who had challenged them at sea during the crisis. Captain Augustus was during those times, a man of honor and trust. He had began his sailing career at the age of 24, sailing under the flag of the Empire. But after he was awarded his own ship and crew, he was quickly outcast after being wrongfully accused of betraying a higher officer. But before they could lock him in shackles and haul him to the Imperial Prison, the Oblivion Crisis began, and Captain Augustus escaped his captives, and stole a ship. He quickly set sail for the Summerset Isles. His Dunmer trait and heritage did not do him well in the Summerset Isles, but he had little choice in the matter when he was escaping, and when he set foot on the shores of the Isles.

After the months that followed the Oblivion Crisis, Captain Augustus found a crew and began fighting against the Empire, and began to make a name for himself and his ship, and crew. The Empire at the time was in complete turmoil, Morrowind and Black Marsh were at war, fighting over the borders, while Elsweyr attacked Cyrodill from the South, and cut off complete contact with Valenwood, one of their biggest foes.

Skyrim and Hammerfell made a feeble truce, and cut High Rock who was still loyal to the Empire, off. And all while on the mainland, the nations fought, the Summerset Isles were in even more chaos. The head council of Summerset were bashing heads, arguing over what should be done about the wars happening across the sea. Many thought that they should cut themselves off, and close their borders for the time, but already while they bickered and argued about what to do, the cities of Firsthold, Skywatch, and Dusk were overran with ships fleeing the mainland. Races from all over Tamriel came to the Summerset Isles as refugees and for work, calling the Isles home. But for those three towns, Firsthold, Skywatch, and Dusk, they became almost like fortresses to pirates who used the ports as major hubs to resupply and attack Imperial ships from.

The heads of the Summerset Isles, had much to say about the new arrivals. At first, they told the pirates and those coming to live, to leave. It didn’t go over well, and those who came to the Isles fought back with what they could. After the three fortress cities were unattainable by the heads of the Isles, and their soldiers, they quickly bargained a deal with the three cities. Allowing those pirates who continued to make the cities their port of call, to stay and do their business, and those who came to just live, were put to work. The heads of the Isles did not really approve of the deal, but even though they were secretly against the whole deal, and tried several times to rid the cities of the pirates again and again, they seemingly just gave in, allowing the pirates to continue pirating the Imperial ships that sailed near, and allowed them to call the cities of Firsthold, Skywatch, and Dusk their port of call.

So, in one of the darkest times in Tamriel history, pirates controlled the seas and ships that sailed them, all while behind closed doors, the heads of the Summerset Isles began to plan what would become one of the most astounding and surprising attempts in all of history. Captain Augustus “The Fiend” Ustral and his crew of the Staghound, would become not only one of the most notorious names in sailing history, but would unknowingly assist the heads of Summerset Isles, in their plan. This is their story.

I'm 50/50. I was in the middle of creating a pirate like fanfic so the story is very tempting, but I'm not too sure about my ability to keep up with the other RPers or not bastardize the lore constantly.

Dont' worry, I just wanted to get the lore part of the story right i.e. who is fighting who, and the whole "why are they fighting" will be explained more in the story, so that will be on my part to keep with the whole lore aspect. Your job (if you join)and everyone else who joins, is just to have fun. Don't worry about the lore, it will mostly be Oblivion lore anyway since that is the game I'm most familiar with, Morrowind not so much. But I've played both, so we'll see?

I'm going to wait until a few character sheets are posted and then decide. As embarrassing as it is, I'm a little intimidated by some of the people here.

:cue laughter: Ah, sorry, but you really shouldn't be. I don't know why you would be intimidated. Although I will admit that when I started writing, I felt about the same, I think you're far enough along to where there's really no reason to be worried. Although there isn't much reason to worry at all, no matter what skill level you're at. If you don't jump in, you'll never improve, etc, etc.

Eh, anyway, this would normally be the part where I would say I don't have enough time to join, but since I did have a hand in assisting you with this, I feel it would only be proper to join up as well. Proper respect and all that. So, I guess I'll go about making a character, though I find your character sheet in regards to the skills just a bit odd.

Well being pirates, I figured they'd add more useful major skills rather, minor? I dunno, I guess I was just finicky about it? Most Rps with Major and Minor skills, I see the player having it so the two skill levels are about the same? I dunno?

Ah, no it's just more me being used to RPing without that entire section recently. No skills on the sheet, is what I mean. By all means, you should do as you like. Just a personal preference of mine.

I love pirate RP's, so I think I may give this a shot, sounds good enough.

Name: Ulfharth Strong-Bow
Age: 38
Race: Nord
Gender: Male

Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Brown
Skin Color: Lightly tanned but still somewhat pale
Height : 6'4"
Weight: 158 lbs
Physical description: Hair is braided into one long ponytail, clasped together by 3 silver clasps. A thick beard covers his chin. Nordic tattoos adorn his thick muscular body. Very athletic.

Clothes: Simple thick sackcloth shirt and pants, thick red sash across his waist.
Armor: Nordic Fur Armor http://www.uesp.net/w/images/images.new/0/02/MW_Armor_NordicFurM.jpg But with this helm http://www.uesp.net/w/images/images.new/3/39/MW_Icon_A_Nordic_Iron_Helm.png

Weapons: Nordic broadsword, Iron Spear, Bonemold longbow and 24 arrows.
Misc: A rucksack full of dried meat, water, and 2 flasks of Mead

Class: Nordic Pirate
Spells: none
Major Skills: Spear, Medium Armor, Long Blade, Speechcraft, Marksman
Minor Skills: Mercantile, Unarmed, Thrown

Personality: A strong burly man, but despite his size he is a rather friendly person. On the seas he isn't afraid to beat somebody into submission or yell out an order that needs to be done. When at port he always like to share a pint or two with his mates. When it comes to battle... he's a Nord.

Bio: Ulfharth was born and raised in Skyrim. On the coasts his family made a living in the fishing business, as well as trapping. Growing up in the harsh environment made Ulfharth a hardy and strong Nord. Later on in his late-teens, he decided to travel to the Morrowind border. When he got there, he fell in love with the landscape.

He had heard stories of the ebony and glass smuggling, but he wanted to know for himself. He returned to Skyrim and came back to Morrowind with a crew and a ship. So began his career as a smuggler. However, after a few years of successful smuggling, he was caught. He was sent to the Mournhold prison to be judged, and then off to the infamous Imperial City prison. That's when hell broke loose.

When Tamriel went into chaos, Ulfharth escaped and ran off to the south. He'd heard of pirates and others heading to the Summerset Isles, so that's what he did. When he got there, he met up with a certain captain with the ship of the name of Staghound. He pledged his service to the Dunmer. Ulfharth's knowledge of smuggling as well as his natural seafaring abilities are an asset to the crew and captain.

Boy, am I ever going back to basics with this one. I do believe this was the first character I ever made. With a little tweaking, he's become quite the suitable pirate.

Name: Malinus Ferus
Age: 53
Race: Imperial
Gender: Male

Hair Color: Mostly bald, with what little hair he has left remaining being gray.
Eye Color: Dark blue.
Skin Color: Well tanned.
Height : 6'2"
Weight: 169lbs
Physical description: Malinus is an old man, and he looks it. He was once very muscular, but much of his strength has faded over the years, and he has lost a great deal of weight, giving him an almost sickly appearance. He still stands taller than most Imperials at 6' 2", though this simply makes his lack of weight look worse than it is. He is a combat veteran of the Legion, and has dozens of scars to show it, the most visible of which all the way across his back, from his left shoulder to his right thigh. His eyes, which are a dark blue, are sunken into their socket. He is almost completely bald, and what little hair he has left is gray. Overall, he appears to be a man who has seen far too much combat for his tastes.

Clothes/Armor: He wears a curious combination of leather and regular cloth. Over his chest, stomach, and back he wears some light, but heavily scarred leather armor. It looks like it's seen many years of combat and isn't in the best state. He wears simple cloth pants and sandles, with a gray cloak going over the entire ensemble, hiding away most of his appearance unless he moves suddenly. He is never seen without this getup on in fact, which leads some to believe that he doesn't actually own any regular clothes.

Weapons: He carries a silver claymore in a black and gold sheath on his back. It has a great many scratches and the edge is chipped in several places, but he refuses to replace the weapon. He also carries a steel knife in an arm sheath attached under his cloak as a backup weapon.

Misc: He wears a jade ring on his right index finger, which has a feather enchantment, allowing him to continue fighting and carrying his equipment when he is obviously so far past his prime. He dislikes wearing it, as he doesn't like magic, but finds it painfully necessary, as he will tell anyone who asks.

Class: Ex-Legionnaire
Major Skills: Blade, Hand-to-Hand, Heavy Armor
Minor Skills: Light Armor, Speechcraft

Personality: Malinus is a veteran of warfare, and knows how to use a great many weapons of war, though he specializes in long claymores. He was never a fan of magic though, and refuses to learn it, believing it to be untrustworthy. He has an extreme dislike of most Dunmer, believing them to be the cause of many of his problems in Morrowind. His experiences have also made him sarcastic and pessimistic, which combined have made his life very difficult. He despises the unhonorable, which is either funny or sad, depending on how you view his life now. He is very obediant and willing to follow almost any order, though he does have a line he won't personally cross. He has no issues with telling others to cross said line, though.

He is, overall, gruff and easily annoyed, but he's also reliable and quite intelligent when he wants to be, easily being able to spot problems by examining things about people that most would not. A change in gesture, personality, even the way the person walks can tell Malinus a lot about a person. And this is something he has used to his own gain, many, many times.

Short Bio: Malinus joined the Legion at a young age in order to escape the poverty of Bravil. Since then he has been deployed to nearly every province and been involved in several wars. He had a wife who lived in the Imperial City, but she died several years ago, leaving Malinus alone in the world with no living relatives. After his wife's death, he accepted a promotion and a permanent stationing in Morrowind, though he soon came to regret that decision. As everything seemed to be falling apart around him, Malinus surrendered his post and retired. Knowing that the Imperial Province was beginning to fall into chaos, he decided to live out the rest of his life in the Summerset Isles. However, being the man of action he is, he couldn't stand to just sit around doing nothing as the world was thrown into chaos. With that in mind, he eventually fell in with a group of pirates; one of the very groups he had fought in the past, in fact.

Since his allegiance to the Empire died with his wife, he vowed his life to the service of the Captain, having nothing else he could do with his life. His knowledge of the Legion and it's tactics, both naval and otherwise, may come in very useful.

Name: Cronus Audata
Age: 19
Race: Imperial
Gender: Male

Hair Color: Dark Brown
Eye Color: Blue
Skin Color: Caucasian, but has a botched brown tan from time out at sea.
Height : 5'9"
Weight: 140lb
Physical description: Wiry frame. Has enough muscle to do basic physical labor tasks, but struggles a bit with heavier objects.

Clothes: Typically wears doeskin sewn pants and a white, linen cloth shirt. Rarely wears shoes.
Armor: Has a tightly knit wool curaiss for during raids and fighting, otherwise it would be too hot for a deckhand.
Weapons: An Iron dagger with a worn etching on the handle, steel cutlass with slight chips on the edge.
Misc: Several books, notably "Pocket Guide to the Empire" series, "Mysterious Akavir", "The Real Barenziah" and of course the seaman's favorite, "The Lusty Argonian Maid". Several small wax candles wrapped in sheep skin, small cloth sack to hold any gold.

Class: Deckhand
Spells: None
Major Skills: Navigation, Speechcraft, Athletics, Acrobatics, Mercantile
Minor Skills: Hand to hand, Blade, Tailoring

Personality: Naive and gullible, usually falls for bogus ghost stories and sea monsters. Has a sense of humor and is not very adept at raiding or fighting, but is getting there and understands his place on the ship at this time. Slight resentment for Dunmer and Khajiit.
Bio: Originally from the Audata family farmstead along the Gold Road outside of Skingrad, Cronus abandoned his typical and protected life inside of his farm for a more adventurous and ambitious profession. Did not realize that profession would be cleaning and cooking for various crew members of the Staghound. Has moved up in responsibility a bit due to his navigational skills, but is still considered a deckhand or "greenhorn". Suffers from insomnia and must read in order to fall asleep.

Ok, everyone who has posted a sheet, you are all very accepted. Jonas, I do hope to see the Personality and Bio, your character seems interesting for being a Nord in the south? Anyway, here is my own sheet. I think if we get two or three more people, we will begin tomorrow. I would start tonight, but I can't think of a good opening for the Rp, and I want this to be really good. Also, since this is a Pirate Rp, and Pirates are known for savagery, this will not be a bright Rp, it will probably be as dark as possible?

Name: Augustus “The Fiend” Ustral
Age: 157
Appearance Age: 32
Race: Dunmer/Dark Elf
Gender: Male

Hair Color: Deluded Silver
Eye Color: Blood Red
Skin Color: Black with a silver/grey tint
Height: 5’ 10”
Weight: 176lb.
Physical description: Slender muscular body with long hair. Several scars around his torso.

Clothes: Brown Satin Vest, White Puffy Shirt, Black Pants, Dark Green Shoes
Armour: Blackened Leather Greaves, Gauntlets, and Boots.
Weapons: Steel Sword, Silver Dagger (hidden inside his boot), Steel Short Sword
Misc: Deer Meat, Pale Ale, Grog, Whet Stone, Sewing needles and thread (much of his clothes get tattered while at sea.)

Class: Pirate/Bard
Spells: None
Major Skills: Navigation, Blade, Intelligence, Speech-craft, Mercantile
Minor Skills: Blunt, Light Armour, Marksmanship

Personality: Tough, strong, and feared leader, Augustus does not take things easy with anyone. He is always on his toes, and always aware of what is happening around him. Augustus does not trust people very well, but he does trust his crews abilities while at sea. On shore, Augustus likes to drink heavily while waiting for his ship to be rearmed and fitted. He can quickly change his temper, and often does so while drunk. While at sea, he likes to take care of his crew, but does not want them getting soft, so he counters it with fear and strength.
Bio: Captain of the Staghound since he first took the ship under his command, after the crew had committed a mutiny. They left the old Captain and those still loyal to him, to rot on a small leaky raft, and wait for a passing ship. Since then, Augustus has commanded the ship with his crew and they have plundered Imperial ships for years. He has been given the nickname “The Fiend” by his enemies, after one attack on a small convoy of Imperial ships sailing up to Bravil, where Augustus and his crew sank all the ships, taking everything, and leaving the crews to die on their burning ships. Nowadays, Augustus and his crew are like any other pirate crew, but with more fear to back.

This RP looks very interesting, MAD-MAX- especially for a first time. Sadly, I have little time and I'm already 'maybe' with another RP, so I won't be able to join. But best of luck though!

And to Zalphon: when doing your spell list do not use game mechanics such as, 20% for 30 seconds. It doesn't totally work like that; it should just be 'weak chameleon spell' or something similar.

Just a little tip to make your sheet a bit more realistic. ;)

EDIT: Oh, and also: a Dunmer of 30 is pretty much like a teenager and certainly wouldn't look like a 30-year-old human. I recommend you put up the age up to 70 or so if you want to keep the apparent age 30. :)

Age: 27
Race: Imperial
Gender: Male

Hair: Short, light brown & slicked back
Eye Color: Dark green, right eye missing
Skin Color: Tanned, both as an Imperial and the sea-faring life
Height : 6'2"
Weight: 175
Physical description: Very powerful upper body. Ring and pinky fingrs on left hand are crippled to uselessness.

Clothes: White shirt, dark blue Jacket, light brown leather pants, knee height leather boots, tricorn hat.
Weapons: Chitin compound bow, 15 broad-head arrows, 3 bodkin-tipped arrows, iron hunting knife
Misc: Quiver, compass, basic survival pack. Pet rat named Tertoullion

Bio: Raised as a petty thief in ports around Tamriel, Quint fell into a worse crowd at fourteen and started smuggling ebony out of Morrowind. That along with his notorious highway man carrer in heartland Cyrodiil forced him to flee at age nineteen to a less conspicuous career, such as piracy.
