No darker skin tone for Nords. Glitch?

Post » Sat Mar 15, 2014 5:01 am

I haven't seen the lighter-skinned Redguards, so I will have to check that when I get back in game. I agree that it's unfortunate, but I'm basing my info on the previous lore. I know Bretons can be quite tanned, but definitely not African American, if that's the specific dark-complexion that's being requested. Nords are, as someone mentioned, seemingly based on the Nordic peoples, and thus their lack of dark-skinned complexions is sensible. You also couldn't do dark hair for Nords in some games, if memory serves, because their hair is supposed to be light.

(I concur with the female vs male issue, but I'd rather not discuss it here, as it detracts from the issue at hand. It's not fair to detract from one issue by bringing up another. They are both problematic.)

Single player or mmo? At least you got to pick the skin color you want. Never limited.

See there isn't an African American game. If there were, people would complain. Nords aren't Caucasians. Never said redguard was African American. Just saying they are suppose to be based on dark skin people but there are lighter choices.

No. For a long time there was only one option: the main 'character'. Or if you had the option of picking different classes, one avatar for each character. We've come a long way in the past two decades with player options.

And please, let's remember that even though Nords look 'human', they're not. They're a fantasy race. So are Bretons and Imperials and Redguards. Using the term 'human' just makes them relatable to us. This is not taking place on Earth.

Seriously, if our only options were creatures, would people start getting upset that they couldn't get the scales or fur or whatever to look like them?

Yes, they are a fantasy race. So in what fantasy can they not be dark skin? Maybe my Nord could have traveled a lot and got really tanned. What's the problem? And you know what I mean by human. If not then I'll explain. I mean by their appearance resembling that of human. A human face, legs, arms, feet, fingers, and etc etc etc.

Nope, we wouldn't complain. As that would make sense if certain creature-like races didn't have certain scales and/or fur. No one is complaining about elves or the furry races.

EDIT: (Message keeps getting cut off >.>)

I don't know, I generally like going with the race of a character. For example GTAIV, although it would have been cooler to have a CJ type main character, I went with it just because it worked with the game. For San Andreas, CJ all the way. The only time I've wanted to change my gender/race of a character was in Dead Island, the gun specialist was an African American Female, and I wanted to change the gender (not sixist, just more relatable to me)

That said, I'm totally down with having complete color choice for all the races, more options is good.

It's a fantasy game developed by other people. It's not *your* fantasy game. It has lore and established history within its own world. It doesn't need to be changed for everyone that has a suggestion.

Because there are rules to how they look? Just because something is imaginary doesn't mean it doesn't have guidelines.

It's a fantasy world, richly populated with stories and lore over the years. One of those pieces of lore happens to be that Nords are fair skinned. That's it.

Again, I wouldn't expect them to add crazy hair colors just because my hair happens to be crazy colored. It doesn't fit the lore.

I don't even know how to explain this more simply at this point.

In this fantasy they can't be dark skinned, to be plain. You can have a tanned Nord if you like.

Hehe you used that well against me.

It's not tan enough though. :<

I really don't care about the Nords though. I want a dark skinned Breton. >_< What's the lore behind that race which stops them from giving dark skinned options?

I just made this dark skinned Nord.

Seems dark enough to me. He almost looks like Redguard.

That's not dark skin sorry and you gave him cornrows to try to throw me off. How about try that with a female?

Edit: And like I said before. Don't really care about the Nords. It's the Breton that's my problem.

I'm afraid that's as dark as you'll get as a Nord. You might be able to achieve something slightly darker with the Bretons, but otherwise you're stuck with Redguard. I'm sorry you don't have the options you were looking for, but that's just the way it is.

Haven't played Dunmer then, huh? They're darker skinned than Redguard.

No see they wouldnt because generally the type of racism you are doing is one way.

Like saying in everquest that there arent any Frogloks that are black with oraneg spots and yellow hair or elves in Lord of the Rings Online that havent got red skin.

Seriously. Its fiction. Live with it.
