Darker tone?

Post » Tue Oct 06, 2009 6:05 pm

In oblivion everything seemed bright and cheery. The music was inviting and made me feel like no matter where I went I was at home (well technically I WAS home, on my computer).
I would like the tone in Skyrim to be darker than in Oblivion. Sure I'd like to have nice, sunny days in Skyrim, but I don't want every day to be a bright and sunny day. I'd like to see some heavy fog, bad storms (not just rain), heavy wind that kicks up dirt and dust (refer to Morrowind), and an overall more harsh landscape. In addition to harsher weather, I'd also like to see more fearsome creatures roaming the land. The wildlife in Oblivion was a joke, I could kill a mountain lion with a single throw of my fist. I would also like the lighting to not be so bright, to emphasize the danger.

Basically what I'm saying is that Morrowind felt more wild, mysterious, dangerous, and interesting whereas Oblivion felt like I was too at home everywhere I went. I would like to see things be more dangerous, dark, and mysterious. Anyone agree?

My biggest problem in that department in Oblivion was the NPCs. Too many of them felt cartoony more than everything. I mean, Dunmers were bad-asses in Morrowind with their Lemmy voice - and all other races felt more realistic too - when they didn't feel the same at all in Oblivion. Partly has to do with the poor voices, but their faces were not all that good either.

I would have to agree, the elves especially felt way too cartoony and cheery. I also hope they fix that too, but that's another topic.

Yes, yes... wait no... ok nvm, Yes again.

I think this game should have darkness written all over it. It really wouldn't bug me if it was almost never sunny, I'd rather see a dark sky filled with dark ominous clouds. I want the dungeons and caves to be more dark gray stone, than the light brown that Oblivion's were..

Honestly, I really liked how Solsthiem was done for Bloodmoon, I would like to see something along the lines of that, just even darker and more creepy. I think the game should have a lot of that Beowulf feel to it myself.

Or if anyone's seen pathfinder, something along those lines too. I want to see green pine forests and everything, just keep it dark.

They should put crows in this game, just as a scenery type thing. That'd be awesome.

Yes, it should have a dark, chilling feel to it. Except in the bigger towns.

Seeing how dark and serious the tone was in Fallout 3 makes me think Skyrim will be too.

Lots of gloomy interiors with brooding music. Encounters with hopeless npcs that are worried for their lives and their families. More urgency to finish the main quest to relieve the population of fear and dread. Oblivion definitely lacked any sense of doom. Gates opening everywhere but there was no panic in the streets, or any sense that the world was going to end. People usually flee when hoards of things start to invade their world. I'd like to see some of this in skyrim; panic, terror, and dread. especially if there are dragons swooping down on villages breathing fire.

"Other", personally I think each area should have it's own feel, like in Morrowind.

Eh, there's not that much of a difference to matter is there? lol

For the sake of choosing, they should add both.

.. Man people post way too fast on here now.

I'd appreciate a darker tone overall but nothing overwhelming. What is dark should be dark and what is not shouldn't lose its character either.

If they make it as dark as MW that would be just about right.

Oblivion had a really casual feel to it the way the world and the NPC's meshed so I would rather see this be improved upon. I also do enjoy dark fantasy a lot more then light hearted high fantasy.

A bear in real life may be a nightmare, but in Oblivion I thought they weren't that interesting. I missed all the fantasy creatures from Morrowind

A darker Skyrim would be nice, but it would be good to still get some nice days every now and then. I wouldn't want it to be a dark fantasy like Dragon Age : Origins though.

Agreed. I would like a darker feel to it, but I don't want it to be dark, dark, and more dark and nothing but dark. I'd, of course, like a nice day every now and again in Skyrim. But I mean as compared to Oblivion Skyrim should be darker in general.

Mixture :)
If they add seasons , it would be great. 2 seasons are dark , with storms, snow , rain and 2 seasons are bright with sun and greenery ^^

I want a realistic game. Nothing too far in either direction. Immersion comes first

I want some areas to feel like you are home and welcome, bright and all that. But when things get serious and you are in the middle of friggin nowhere you shouldn't feel invited at all, almost wanting to go back to the warm and welcome cities and other land areas.
