Darknut

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 6:35 am

Does anyone have any idea how to get in touch with Darknut, to request permissions for a few things. I cannot contact him through Planet Elder Scrolls, and I cannot seem to find him on this forum.
Does anyone know how I would go about contacting him so I can request permission to do a few things.

I mostly want to request his permission to do the following:

1. Repackage some of his mods, so they are easier to install, then re-release them on Planet Elder Scrolls. The only alterations I would make (if any) are a few of the issues that BTB found out about
on his list.

That's about it. Almost everything I would do would be simple repackaging everything to make it easier for modders to install. However, he spoke about in his readme to request that first, so I wanted to find
out how to get permission first.

Thanks again.

Ah thank you. I did a search on the forum users for his name a few different times and never saw him. So I started thinking maybe he didn't come here. OK, cool thanks again.

By the way, Pluto. I wanted to personally thank you. I really appreciate you helping me so much. I have been away from Morrowind a long time, so your help in getting me caught back up and
re-learning everything is really appreciated. Right now, I am in take mode (asking questions a lot). Soon as I get back on my Morrowind feet, I want to start undertaking some modding projects
and giving back.

Again, thanks again for always helping me out with my posts. I appreciate that.

I would prefer my mods be left as they are.
A repackage by someone else just makes it weird if & when I what to update them & PES is not the only play they are hosted & I don't want different versions floating around.
I'm too busy at the moment to mod, but that won't always be the case.

Sorry

You don't have to be sorry, it's your right as the mod creator. Also what you are saying makes sense. That's why I wanted to check before just trying to do it.
I enjoyed all of your texture mods. At first I tried to get just a few...but soon BTB (and his website) talked me into using them all. So I took the time to go through
every one of your texture replacers and loading them in. Thanks again for all the wonderful mods you've built.

really, they should -to make things easier- be wyre-mash-installer friendly, ie: you take the meshes and textures folders and drag them out the datafiles texture and just into the "said armor" folder. thats what i did.

Yes, if you ever plan on reinstalling, it is pretty much a necessity to repackage the armour for your own use. Sadly, I didn't learn that until the second time I had to drag all of those files out of their individual folders. *chuckle*

Hey Darknut are you still working on your music? hoping one day to get more of your themes - ditto for Skyrim - you know they are doing more Dwemer ruins? :)

Hint hint!

You could write a batch file to move the contents from each of Darknut's armor folders into your \textures\ directory.

Couldn't he just personally send you the repackaged version of your mods and all you have to do is click "upload" for whichever site you choose? That way you retain your freedom over your files, and users obtain the better-structured texture packs.

I am in agreement with the above comment. This seems to be the most effective compromise for all involved.

That would be cool. With your permission I wouldn't mind doing that. Just let me know if you decide to.

However, I understand if you want full and total control. So, it doesn't bother me whatever you choose.

Thanks again for the great mods. I love the retextures. They make my game a lot funner.

Or, since it's a straight mesh/texture, wont' it run out of a BSA? Maybe you could eventually think about turning the entire thing into an easy to install BSA file..no idea (yet) how those work, but just an idea.

I made my own BSA of Darknut's textures once, for personal use, but for some reason I couldn't get it to overwrite the vanilla textures.

Maybe a BSA only works with an associated esp/esm file to call them. Maybe straight replacers don't work as BSA files. Not sure, I don't know much about them yet.

Are you sure you registered them in the INI file? That was a stupid question...if you knew how to create a BSA file, then you definitely knew about registering them.

Yeah, I had them registered and everything. They worked if I deleted the original vanilla textures from Morrowind.bsa, but not if they still existed in there.
