Darnified UI massively reduces text size?

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 4:09 am

I installed darnified UI and i noticed that the size of the text for subtitles and conversation options are REALLY small now. Is this normal? I want it to be the normal size....

Smaller text is basically the point of Darnified UI, so that more menu data can fit on the screen at once.

From the Darnified UI description/readme:

This mod gives the Oblivion UI the most extensive facelift yet. It's goal is to rid the pc version of the horrid xbox interface. Fonts are smaller, settings can be adjusted in game, user controls are scaled, more info on screen, and the hud is vastly improved.

Q: My resolution is < 1024 and ...
A: Anything below 1024 will look bad. I suggest using vanilla BTMod, DarkUI, or the default config in this case.

The fonts are customizable. Open up Oblivion.ini and search for the [Fonts] section, change as follows:

[Fonts]
SFontFile_1=Data\Fonts\Kingthings_Regular.fnt
SFontFile_2=Data\Fonts\DarN_LG_Kingthings_Petrock_14.fnt
SFontFile_3=Data\Fonts\DarN_LG_Kingthings_Petrock_18.fnt
SFontFile_4=Data\Fonts\DarN_Oblivion_28.fnt
SFontFile_5=Data\Fonts\Handwritten.fnt

Uh, what do i change it to if i want a larger font size?

Edit : Ive tried modifying the HUD status bars ingame, but the game "forgets" them the moment i quit the game. Is there any way to make the mod remember my settings?

No.
The ingame settings do not persist.

There is an option on the install to use larger fonts.

Ultimately though part of the point of the mod - as mentioned - is to decrease the text size, if it's a problem for you though then it may be that this mod is perhaps not for you...

You can customize which font you want to use as "Font 1", which is the one used in the main menu and a few other places, but that doesn't affect dialog and menu text for the most part.

If you use the omod installer, you can choose a slightly larger text size, but it is not a great deal larger. If you aren't using the omod installer, perhaps you ought to be, as it presents all the options for you and just can just click through them.

To get your custom hud layout to stick, you have to copy your settings from in-game to ..Oblivion\Data\Menus\prefabs\darn\hudmainmenu_config.xml. Then they will stick between game restarts. It's easier than it sounds.

In any case, as quoted from Darn himself already, you might just want to try BTMod as all the text is a bit larger.

Also, omeletted's suggestion above are larger fonts. She set a large font for font 1 and font 3. Font 3 is also used in dialogue.

Hey, neat, I didn't know about that. Something for the OP to try then, for sure.

The difference won't be dramatic. You can't increase the size too much or the text won't fit. But it might help.

Now THIS is something I have learnt - apologies for hijacking the thread but - how do you do this...?

1) Get your layout how you like it in-game, then screenshot the settings tab for reference.
2) Open the hudmainmenu_config.xml in a plain text editor, Notepad works fine, don't use Word or anything simliar
3) Copy the coordinates of each frame you moved in-game to their respective spots in the .xml file, save, & go! The sections are labeled and commented, so it's pretty easy to figure out what number goes where. You can also take a second screenshot of the default settings from in-game to compare the coordinates to what's in the .xml file, that can help you identify what is what.
4) When you're all done, back up the .xml file, so next time you reinstall Darn UI, you can just drop it back in. :cool:

I tried to increase the size of the text a while back.

Had to move from my PC monitor to the TV but wanted to keep Darn UI.

Even had Darn helping me out over on his forum, but as a few people have stated above there is only so much you can do.

In the end I went for BTMod. If the suggestions above don't give you what you need that may be your best option.

Or use http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34792 - requires OBSE and either Pluggy or ConScribe, but well worth it to make in-game changes stick. I am still very grateful to whoever pointed that one out to me - no more messing with bits of paper (alt-tabbing crashes Oblivion for me) and manually editing the .xml file.

Which version of Pluggy though?

Pluggy v125b or higher. I understand some people suffer problems with Pluggy, so use ConScribe instead (v9.0 or higher). Either plugin should work fine.
