[WIPz] DarNified UI F3

Post » Fri Apr 01, 2011 11:13 pm

I'm starting to get sub menus and the CND and ammo stuff colliding. I'd be ok if it was just the pipboy sub menus, but now it's right there in front of my eyes 24/7. Really need a fix for this.

EDIT: Copying the newer stuff into the fallout.ini fixed it. I had it changed from an older version but I guess this one adds new fonts.

That simply makes the game use the old font, and doesn't "fix" anything. Furthermore, since the Pip-boy fonts have been changed in this version, now the sub-menus there don't display correctly.

Well for me the choice is between having the sub-menues not display correctly but still working or not being able to hack any computers.. then take a wild guess what i choose, it does fix it, it fixes not being able to hack.. if you dont like it, then dont do it...

Heya, Darn

Have you come across any way of showing what skills are tagged when you level up? (Since more an more mods are implementing the tag from FO1/2, this would be a nice addition)

Not yet. Might need FOSE for that.

Well, either we can deal with an unchanged font, or we can do the ~unlock. So yeah, it fixes it till DarN comes up with a better way to do it in the mod :P

I suspect Hacking needs a monospaced font to work properly. I'll look into it.

On that note, there are a couple of Pip-boy notes that seem to require monospaced fonts to work correctly, as they employ ASCII art (or similar). Maybe a new font for that screen is in order.

Hm. I didn't know that. Do you have a screenshot?

edit: Scratch that - found some notes myself. I thought it might have been as a result of the font 5 swap, but I see some notes that is formatted for a fixed with font here. Off to find a hackable computer now...

The one in Super Duper Mart is easy to get to if you already cleared it out since you can fast travel there. ^_^

I found the same problem.

You need to update the fonts section with the new ini stuff.

Loving the UI. It's the only one I've used for FO3PC, ever since alpha 0.6.

But there's an issue with this release. Namely, the http://img525.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot0qw5.png.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before - I blame my laziness. I didn't want to look through six pages of posts. >.>;

Very good UI from what I have seen. In fact I never saw the 'stock' fonts, I installed your mod before I started to play properly!

Just got FO3 for PC (had it for 360 though) now there are a load of mods and came across yours, well I couldn't not try it after using your Oblivion version for so long!

Overall 10/10, the only small problem is with the hacking screen from what I can see, but your already well aware of that slight issue.

Cheers! :foodndrink:

I think it's good not to change sFontFile_5.
I've seen misaligned computers placed at enclave camp and note even in a7.
I just changed it back to vanilla font and it fixed.
I see no problem in default Vanilla sFontFile_5 font
except current a8 caused pip-boy's under tab like text(text like Status - S.P.E.C.I.A.L - Skills - Perks - General) a bit ugly.

In Alpha 8, he changed it so that the Pip-boy and other menus use Font 5, whereas in previous versions they didn't. I kind of preferred it the old way, to be honest... and I enjoy consistent fonts, not different ones for each thing.

I found a fix for this that doesn't also tweak the pipboy bottom menu buttons. Change two files: fallout.ini and Data\menus\prefabs\DUIF3Settings.xml.

1) In Fallout.ini swap font #5 back to it's original, like so...

sFontFile_5=Textures\Fonts\Fixedsys_Comp_uniform_width.fnt
;sFontFile_5=Textures\Fonts\DarN_Sui_Generis_Otl_14.fnt

and change:

sFontFile_8=Textures\Fonts\Glow_Futura_Caps_Large.fnt
-to-
sFontFile_8=Textures\Fonts\DarN_Sui_Generis_Otl_14.fnt

2) In DUIF3Settings.xml change:

<_gl_ButtonFont> 5
-to-
<_gl_ButtonFont> 8

At least I've got a functional hacking interface, and my PIPBoy menus are pretty. I'm sure DarN will come up with a true fix soon.
He probably has a job or something. All the more reason to thank him for his interface tweaks.
I use your Dark DarNified for Oblivion. Excellent work.

Your "fix" is basically exactly what he would do anyway. He's using the same configuration options, more or less, except he's just tweaking them "officially". Only difference is that he had to write the code up to begin with. I wouldn't expect a "true" fix to do anything differently. :P

This was actually unintended- will be fixed for a9. :)

Alpha 9 will have some more Chargen goodness:

My FOV is ok - the game code just doesn't take into account other fov's than the default one...

Found a way to fix face alignment with my FOV setting: http://ui.darnified.net/wip/F3/ss599.jpg

Fixing the list requires a bit of vertex moving or some xml changes. I'm no Niftools expert, so this is cumbersome work. I tried some import/edit/export with Blender, but that makes the game go poof...

Can I ask why you're playing with the field of view stuff, anyway? The game is hor+ by default so it's not like you're losing out on any screen space...

Once this escapes the buggy clutches of the havok-making creature known as "Alpha", I shall download it. Definitely.

It's really not buggy at all. Still a bit rough around the edges, but the improvements made make it worth using over the default UI even in its unpolished state. The functionality is all there if you want to tweak it, as well. The hardest part is changing around the fonts to get something you like.

There is no reason to wait. The UI is stable and works well. It just isn't completely "finished" yet.
Most of the pvssyr in here is not about fixes, but improvements.
