In Morrowind it appears that the darts and knives are thrown so that the dull part flies at the enemy instead of the pointy part. I may be wrong, but it really looks like it to me.

The problem is knives and stars don't rotate in the air when they're thrown, when people throw knives they throw them using the blade so that it will spin properly, but since the blades don't actually spin ingame, it looks a bit weird.
