Data Files problem?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:44 pm

I recently reinstalled Morrowind GOTY ed. on my Vista machine. Everything seems to be going fine. I was working on a mod in the CS and decided to use Niftexture to modify some meshes; this is where I noticed the problem. I navigated to the Data Files folder and see that they are all present. I open the Meshes folder and it is empty. I open the Textures folder, empty. I try to enter the game, everything is fine until I am actually in-game; CTD. Everything shows up fine in the CS, but I am not sure what to do now. I already uninstalled twice. Any suggestions?

First I welcome you to this forum. :D

Okay, what folder is Morrowind installed?

If you have install it to "C:\Program Files", when you need to uninstall Morrowind+CS first and reboot your computer.
After that install Morrowind and CS to any folder elsewhere, but not to the Program Files folder. The "Program" folder is OK though.
Launch CS again to see if you can find what you're looking for.

Remember don't install any tool to the Program Files, because both Vista and Windows7 has a special configuration for that folder. :user:

Ok, I will try that tomorrow when I have access to that machine. Thanks.

Tried it and still got the same results. Installed to "C:\Bethesda" Same results. I found another disk from preGOTY ed. and tried to install that, same results. I think it might be time to move on. It svcks though because I really want to play Morrowind again.

Unless you have mods installed, you won't find any files there.
All the files that the game uses are stored in a BSA.

Does your Warning.txt have anything immediately following a crash? (found in the main Morrowind Folder)
Can you start a New Game, or are you trying to play a Save file?

The fact that the CS renders the game means everything is installed correctly.

I cannot even get past the first little screen that pops up in the corner now.
