i was wondering if FO uses data while i am playing. i ask because i am reaching my ISP's data cap a little quicker than normal since i started playing. if it is using data, can we use offline mode?

You can set it to offline mode in Steam, yes, but beware that it may automatically turn it back on by itself so always double check.

Fallout shouldn't be using data, unless you use Steam in-game, which will then still be very very little.

It also depends if you're using cloud storage. A feature that's only useful if you're playing on different computers. If it's activated, the game constantly synchronizes your savegames which may account for some traffic. It's also a source for error, since you somtimes get the messaqe, failed to synchronize when trying to load a game. I always turn it off.

Cloud Storage of your saves would be the main reason there would be any data usage. The Steam Community would not be a big load.

You don't really want the Cloud Storage on unless you game on different machines and want to use the same characters.

Also, if you have Windows 10, there was a recent update that forced on One Drive and it seemed to have moved the My Documents folder up to the cloud. That would dramatically increase ISP usage for any game you are playing.

Cloud storage is pretty dangerous here as Bethesta games as the savegames are pretty large and it autosaves all the time.

If your line is pretty slow the savegames might overload it, happened then I played Oblivion.

Else its only the achivements who is not much data i think

Cloud saves only sync when you leave the game, so it doesn't matter if you play for hours on end and it autosaves a hundred times. It will only upload after you exit the game.

But it does matter if you make lots of manual saves, I'd think. (or does FO4's cloud only transfer quick/auto?)

You're right it does matter, as it syncs the entire saves folder, so if you made 100 manual saves, it will upload all of them.

And, as I said, it's an additional source for error. I tend to forget turning it off whenever installing a new game, until I'm reminded by the "failed to synchronize" error when trying to load a particular save. That's usually when I get rid of the (for me anyways) useless function.
