Dating before license / cars?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:13 pm

So my mom made me let my older brother use my car for this business trip to Chicago, and it's kind of bad timing seeing as how I was actually planning on asking out this girl from school. I never started dating until Sophomore year when I got my license, so I'm just wondering, how should I do this? I obviously can't offer her a ride or pick her up, and it just seems like it would be embarrassing having my parents drive me, and I doubt my friends have a bunch of time to spend on driving me and my date around, which would just be awkward anyways. So how did people date before they could drive?

Public transit? Pick a location and have her meet you there, maybe she can give YOU a ride? The whole equal treatment thing.

I'm sorry but that doesn't sound right :P..*cough*cough* anyway, why not borrow your friends's cars or using the oldest means off travelling: your legs :P

This.

But failing that, if you're really trying to impress her, I'd suggest waiting for the car. However, if she's pretty cool and laid back and you're fairly comfortable and you don't need to go too far, a walk would probably be nice. I remember walking around town looking for a place to eat with a guy I was dating once, it was pretty cool just having a wander and a talk with him. It was a good bonding experience, even though we never actually ended up going out [/regret].

But whatever you do, DO NOT LET YOUR PARENTS DRIVE YOU!! Friends are only ok if she's ok with it and if they aren't actually hanging around the whole time, unless you organise a double date.

You know, there is this ancient method of transport that has worked for ages. It is called walking.

If you're in a big city walking is tedious, don't listen to all these folk living in the middle-ages. Borrow a friends car. Either that, or postpone the date, explaining your situation.

Since when is a car absolutely needed for a date? Unless you live in the country or that your date lives a couple of plantations/farms away from you, public transit works pefectly.

Like Gamgee mentioned, tell her to meet you "there" and then proceed with the date there. A car is optional. Really. Of course, you don't get to put in the CD player your "Flirting Songs" compilation. :P

Actually walking is the only method that will not be replaced (unless you watched Wall E...). besides I don't think a girl wouldn't date a guy simply because he doesn't have car (considering he CAN'T have the car yet...)

If possible, just walk. But I guess it isn't, since otherwise you probably wouldn't have wanted to take the car in the first place. For anything further than three or four miles I use my bicycle, anything beyond about ten miles public transportation. Perfectly valid forms of transportation for dates as well. Though, since you didn't even consider it as an option, your public transportation probably svcks.

Meet her in town? Both get there separately. Believe it or not, plenty of people don't drive. If it's late, and there's no public transport, offer to pay for her taxi?

Plus, going downtown gives you more options, if you know what I mean.

If you live in the city use public transport. Figure out the bus schedules etc.

Meet at a certain place and go there a few hours before hand if its a long walk.

My daughter has been dating a fellow for a year and a half, she doesn't drive.
Dating and driving are not mutually inclusive. There are other forms of transportation.
Neither one of my kids drive, in fact because first of all, they can't stop arguing, secondly, we live in a city rated highest for teenage driving deaths, and thirdly, my son is too short-tempered, my daughter more intrested in putting on makeup than checking vehicle fluids. So I drop em off in the morning.
Now, recently, I told the daughter to pull up the online drivers liscence manual and read it, then we'd schedule a test come report card time. If she's incapabale of performing that simple task, she's not ready to drive.

Obviously show your devotion by crawling the entire distance to her house, and then carry her everywhere aftterwards!

But seriously, I didn't note what your climate is, but bikes or walking is a good option. Meet somewhere in the midde for food and go to the park. And yes, this can be done in winter as well.

Before I had car, it was a 25 minute bikeride to my GF's house.

Alas, you'll be missing the back seat, but won't have any windows to fog up ;)
