David Wise Studios

Post » Tue Nov 30, 2010 1:22 am

Yes, I'm well aware Jeremy Soul is the composer, but as of December 2010, David Wise has had his own recording studio and is doing freelance work.

If you're unaware of who David Wise is, go play Donkey Kong Country, NOW!

If Bethesda Game Studios ever needs a new composer they should seriously consider him.

On his homepage you can hear the Theme to Wizards and Warriors, one of the first games he composed for.
It's brilliant, moving, and would fit the atmosphere of Skyrim perfectly.

Awesome! I never knew what happened to the guy who did Donkey Kong Country. It's one of the few soundtracks that I have on my computer.

Jeremy Soule is god among mere mortals, nobody can compare to him for video game music.

I just wish Bethesda would hire a real orchestra for Jeremy Soule. Hear the difference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VG_fV0r4cX0

David Wise created the music for Donkey Kong Country on the SNES?

That's some of the most memorable game music ever. Especially the underwater theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDvKwSVuUGA

Not to be unfair to Jeremy Soule or anything (I love his Dungeon Siege theme) but he should record more and more varied music for the Elder Scrolls games. He recorded under an hour of music for both Oblivion and Morrowind and both those games are over 100+ hours long. They've got 8 people working on dungeons, maybe Jermey Soule could supervise some other people producing more music?

1,2 and 3.

Personally, I feel his best work on those games is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J67nkzoJ_2M (Music from Bramble Scramble).

Having to record more tracks for the game doesn't mean that his music lacks variety. I simply don't understand why people keep linking both concepts together (and you're not the only one that has done that).

For the love of Azura, Oblivion can have limited tracks, but I can only imagine a bunch of other games with the same varied music than it. If Jeremy's music lacked variety, we wouldn't have the ambient pace jump from "Peace of Akatosh" track and "Sunrise of Flutes", to put an example.

Jeremy Soule is an epic compositor, and I honestly think that those who says otherwise have no idea about OST's.

David Wise is great but so is Jeremy Soule. I was pleasantly surprised to learn Jeremy Soule did the music for Secret of Evermore, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkEH0e07jg8.

Orchestras are neat but a good composer doesn't need them. The SNES in my opinion has some of the best video game music of all time for example.

Man this thread http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AU1icnbBqU.

WIKIPEDIA Outside Bethesda press releases, some have criticized Morrowind's soundtrack. In their reviews of the game, both GameSpot and GameSpy criticized the length of the game's soundtrack In Morton's view, the lack of variation, of response to the game's action, and of length—Morrowind's soundtrack is only 30 minutes long—leaves players detached from the game world.

Jeremy Soule is amazing, and is the person doing it for Skyrim. You really couldn't ask for better. He's a god among men in terms of audio engineering and composing.

Also, I'm pretty sure at this point in production, the soundtrack is probably near complete.

I don't care about who said that. You can say that Oblivion OST lacks of length (that is true, it's a fact that it's pretty short), but saying that it ALSO lacks of variety is being short-sighted at least, and an "always-unsatisfied-13-year-old-kid" at most.

If Oblivion OST lacks of variety, then all the other OST's I've heard in my life lacks of variety, too. And many even more than it.

Yeah, that's Morrowind. Oblivion's OST definitely had no lack of variety, length or epicness. I still listen to the OST of Oblivion in my playlist to this day and I also love the "Play!" symphony version also, in fact I'm listening to it now lol. Morrowind had some good songs but they were right, all the songs are similar in some respect, but good nonetheless.
