Dawnbreaker?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 9:59 pm

So I'm at the part in the Dawnguard MQ just after recruiting the two new guys.

I'm thinking about stopping at this point and going after Dawnbreaker (I already have the quest active).

So is Dawnbreaker a really good weapon against these vamps? I'm currently using an upgraded Nord Hero sword.

Thanks.

Dawnbreaker will anger followers. If Serana stayed away at a distance, it would be an ideal weapon for Dawngaurd.

Seriously? Serana gets upset if you use it? Is that because the flee shockwave affects her?

well it is more effective against undead also get spell breaker it has a permanent ward that if i remenber right blocks 50 points of magic you can get the quest at the shrine of Peryite near The Shrine of Peryite is located in http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/The_Reach, far to the northeast of http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Markarth. Place your marker slightly northwest of http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Karthwasten. It is directly southwest of http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Dragontooth_Crater and http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Harmugstahl did'nt think those would show up oh well it's fine i guess vamps love to cast spells goes well with sword

If you use the UFO follower mod (if you play on the PC) you can set them to ignore friendly fire and not get mad. Makes followers for mages a lot easier to keep alive cause you can also set them essential.

I love it! When fighting any undead it's my weapon of choice....and I'm a Vampire Lord so duel wielding it with Harkon's blade cuts them down pretty effectively. Serana follows me too and occasionally gets in the the way or will catch residual effects. Only once did she get mad enough to come after me, but I put my hand to her and she straightened out. :slap:

I highly recommend it!

I never had a problem with Dawnbreaker and Serana, but she was usually at a distance summoning something anway. I gave her a couple Staff's and she really kept her distnce... the only problem I had was takeing friendly fire every once in a while. ( Derik switched swords Dawnbreaker and a Glass sword with Shock enchant.) Usually she hit him with ice spikes when he was fighting thing's like bear's or regular bandits. ( so not useing Dawnbreaker)

If you hit Dawnbreaker with a powerful fire or ice scroll you can duplicate it, that's what I did. It will remain in the pedestal but the copy will bounce around in the last chamber so you will have to look around a little bit but it will be there. Dual Dawnbreakers looks pretty cool in an extra dark dungeon, not to mention the extra large " holy " explosion from the effect it has on undead.

Vampires are undead, so it has the same effect on them as it does on draugr.

The best thing about that quest is that the teleporting dude can totally be your dead thrall - teleporting zombie.

Dawnbreaker is great for crowd control. But I have an even better weapon:

Lightbringer

1 Handed Dragonbone Sword, Legendary
Turn Undead level 50, Sunlight Damage 75 points (Only works on Undead)

I use Dawnbreaker to deal with the cannon fodder. Lightbringer is when I get serious. Amen!

I really don't understand the point of Dawnbreaker. The last thing I want is the enemy running away. I hate having to chase them down. I just put it on a weapon plaque. Its pretty. But also pretty useless for what I want out of a weapon.

My weapon of choice for undead is now the rune axe. Not as much base damage as a dragonbone weapon, but the sun damage is very, very high, plus it has a 15 foot area effect. I was fighting two Deathlords and as I whacked one I could see the other one lighting up as well. Now that's a nice weapon!

Edit: one other nice feature of the rune axe is it keeps count of how many undead I have killed. Oh, and it never needs recharging!

I used Dawnbreaker last night after I upgraded it. I was killing most all vamps with about 2 hits. Serana did get caught in the shockwave at least once, but she didn't seem to be bothered by it. She does generally keep her distance throwing ice shards so I think I'll be good.

Is it possible to upgrade or enhance the enchantment on Dawnbreaker?

You can temper Dawnbreaker if you have the arcane blacksmith perk. But there are no perks for doubling how much you can improve it. Nor can you re-enchant it. I simply don't understand the fascination with this wimpy weapon.

Well I haven't found Rune Axe yet, nor does my character use axes. Also I enjoy watching the undead run around on fire. It's not like they really have anywhere to go.

Besides I'm more into the role-playing aspect of the game than playing it like a CoD game. I promised Meridia I would use it and I am. Since I'm fighting undead mostly at this point it fits well.

It's RP value. It look's pretty cool, glowing And well their IS the explosion thing, which I find funny as all Oblivion. For a low lvl character it's ctually pretty great. About half my characters tend to dual weld it, so at higher lvl's it's really the other weapon that's doing most of the damage, but you still get the Explosion! Even Sheild Bashing plus Dawnbreaker is pretty neat. Each to their own. JMO
