Dawnguard Bug List #1

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 2:52 pm

Type of Bug: Item Enchantment

Name of item: Dawnguard Rune Shield

Description:
- The Dawnguard Rune Shield's first enchant is the same as the standard Dawnguard shield. This seems to be working correctly.
- The second legedary enchant (sustained blocking creates a minor sun shield doing 10 points of damage while draining the wielder's stamina) no longer works.
- The sun shield aura was present on the first few attempts, as one usually tests their new-found equipment.
- It has not worked since, and time elapsed is almost 3 in-game months.

Just saw this was posted above, but the crouch bug seems to be, at least for me from reverting to a previous save after turning into a vampire lord, if my previous save I was crouched, I can't stand back up or crouch again to fix it, reloading the save once again fixes it though. This might be a bug, I'm not sure, but the location of the amulets of night power might be on a dead npc, this might be intended though as the master vampire was dead in a room of bandits.

Bug #3: While fighting a Blood Dragon outside of Valtheim Keep, the message, "Your powers recede after feeding" or something like that, appeared and then I got another message telling me my blood boiled in the sun. I finished killing the dragon and checked my stats and found that I had regular vampirism. I thought that was removed after installing Dawnguard? And also, I shouldn't have acquired vampirism if I never had the disease! To be absolutely clear, I was NOT a vampire at the time this happened, however, this event occured after all of the stuff described above. I went to Morthal to Falion to be cured, but he didn't register me as having vampirism. I had Serana bite me again, and got it cleared off of me as before and so far it hasn't returned.

I have more follow up. The vampirism did eventually return, when I was out by the Lord Stone. I wasn't fighting anything this time, but it just randomly flashed the message "Your powers recede after feeding" and I had regular vampirism again. :(

I elected to become a VL since I seemed to be stuck with it at any rate, and this effect occurs EVEN as a vampire lord. I do not get reverted to regular vampirism, but randomly I will "feed" and then be reset to the first stage of vampirism. I noticed in the list of glitches that your face turning dark when you become a VL is a common occurence. I can confirm this, and am curious if your body also darkens with the face, because mine did.

Moments like this make me want to kick myself for not backing up my save prior to installing. :(

Found another bug today. Upon learning the second word of Marked for Death, Leech, I also learned the shout Drain Vitality from the DLC. Now, I haven't visited any locations yet from the DLC, so I didn't learn it naturally.

Also, the shout doesn't work. While the two words are unlocked, they are Kill and Leech, same as Marked for Death, and there is no sound upon using the shout, just the purple blast.

I had the same thing last night Aureus5 with the crouch sticking. The crouch toggle just stopped working completely with my character in crouch mode but without the sneak eye. I just reloaded the game and it resolved itself. Very annoying however. Absolutely not a controller problem, definately a game bug.

Did you notice that you were able to do the silent roll while stuck luck that? I did not have the perk for it, and people still saw me right away, but running while stuck like that initiates the silent roll. My problem persisted through saves, I had to turn back into a werewolf in order to fix it.

The below spoiler is a semi-long explanation about the bug I've incurred.

Spoiler
Long story short, I decided to start a new character just for this(and deleted all of my old saves)...not sure if I should have. I was doing some light leveling in the beginning, and found a few locations, including the Lord Stone during my first run through Dimhollow Crypt. I was level 10, so I died horribly a few times.

So I went back to leveling, and around the time I got Breezehome, something was wrong. I found out about the Breezehome alchemy lab glitch, read it up online, and someone said a quick fix to this was to delete the plug-in, buy the lab, redownload it, and boom, all is well. So, I moved it to a flashdrive, bought the house upgrades, then moved it BACK to the 360.

Well...all is NOT well. Dawnguard seemed to restart as normal, as in, I was back at the beginning("no big deal", I thought to myself. "I was only at Awakening anyway."). Well...for whatever reason, when I try to fast travel BACK to the Lord Stone(from Fort Dawnguard), the game freezes...so I tried fast travelling to Tower Mzark. Worked fine. Tried PHYSICALLY moving my character(and by physically, I mean huffin' it Morrowind style)to the entrance to Dimhollow Crypt. Game paused as if loading the area, then froze...

So I tried fast travelling from Mzark to Lord Stone, still froze.

So I tried reloading a save of BEFORE I started the quest "Dawnguard" and ever went up to the fort(but after that quick fix to get the aclhemy lab in Breezehome), and the game still froze when I fast traveled.

So I deleted the entirety of Dawnguard(Dawnguard, not the latest patch, just Dawnguard), and redownloaded it, and it still froze.

As it stands, I just spent $20 on a DLC I can't even seem to play now, and my only logical theories are to start a brand new character and go back through the days of effort I put into leveling(OR go back to a point where I was still rather low leveled before I did the fix to get the alchemy lab), or clear my cache and simply re-download and install EVERYTHING and HOPE that that works and does not screw everything up further.

My question in regards to all of this: "What the hell, Bethesda?"

ALSO, I tried clearing my cache and re-applying the patches to fix this, yet oddly enough no new patches download, and I have no problems outside of the above mentioned bug in what little I've tried to do in my Skyrim game(crossbows fire normally, I still have my enchanted dragonbone sword and it's perfectly fine, etc), as if the patches weren't cleared out at all even when I cleared the cache...

Not exactly an IN-game bug entirely, but I felt it was worth mentioning.

Anyhow, I can't get anywhere near the exterior cell containing Dimhollow Crypt's cave entrance, or the game just locks up. It's starting to become increasingly aggrevating that I must wait AFTER buying this DLC for the possibility of it being patched.

After completing the Dawnguard side i went to Castle Volkihar... and the moment i went to Castle Volkihar Ruins, Serana appeared out of the blue.... when i asked her to wait i couldn't command follow anymore... and when i asked her to go home, i couldn't command her to be my follower, so i brought her back home to the Dawnguard, and then something really weird happened.... at the castle she said she would go back to the Dawnguard, but now she said i will be at the Darkfall Cave waiting for you. i'm already done with the quest line.... so i loaded an older save, because she won't allow me to ask her to follow me after that.... weird.

Bug Type: Audio

For many people, wolves no longer make any noise except when hit or killed. They will go through the motions of howling, but no audio is played. Source: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1393892-wolves-no-longer-make-noise-except-when-running-being-hit-or-dying/

Not sure if this was mentioned or not, I am a Vampire Lord. When in Altmer form (non VL form) and I wear the Thieves Guild Hood, and in 3rd person, instead of the hood being shown, I become partialy bald at the top. I basically get the Captian Picard look.

the crouch bug has something to do with saving while crouched then loading that save (that's how I got stuck).
i found a way to correct the bug if you are a Werewolf is to use the transformation power (might work with VL transformations not sure)

Cannot get a alchemy lab for Breezehome (this bug started after Dawnguard was installed)
Not sure if this bug counts but I have received the find Red Eagles blade quest after reading the book that triggers the quest when I already have Red Eagles Bane

Bug: Hit connection has not been right since installing DLC. I thought it was just on vampires,as i earlier stated in this thread....it's not.
Note: Not tested with one handed weapons yet.

The range of two-handed weapons doesn't seem to work sometimes,or the hit doesn't connect. I have also noticed this with weapon bashing also. I am in complete range to bash and swing/hit the enemy, but sometimes nothing happens. I have also noticed that the power attacks with two-handed weapons are not staggering the enemy as much either. Also ( sometimes ) when blocking attacks my character shoots of to the left...Similar to how NPC's dodge attacks. It only happens when blocking, but not all the time.

The bashing not working as it should also seems worse when fighting dragons.

23. After curing yourself of being a vamire or werewolf, your stats still increase for the amount of days you have been one even though you no longer are.

What do you mean by this?

Your stats increase as the days you spend as a vampire increases?

I think for some reason, (well bad programming on Bethesdas part :P) is that when installing Dawnguard, it resets things. I tried to find a way to get around the breeze home bug, load the game with no DLC, and then get the alchemy lab, and then reload with the DLC and I lost everything stored in Breezehome. The bedroom doors were also closed when they should have stayed opend and peoples converstations, which I already talked to them about, are in white again like I never talked to them about it.

So I am sure Dawnguard "resets" things and stuff in Skyrim.

Bug #1: Gameplay

Valerica's study constantly regenerates all the items in it. I do not know the respawn time, but on frequent returns, her soul gems and atronach salts are all replenished, as well as a blood potion that is on her table. I am assuming all items will do this, I just don't take any others.

Bug #2: Gameplay

I've seen this reported previously, so I just wanted to confirm that characters in Dawnguard Fortress may randomly become aggressive. For instance, Dexion attack me without any provocation and I took him down. After he got back up, he was no longer hostile and I didn't incur a bounty. I thought something like this happened with another Dawnguard character as well, but I have forgotten since then.

Bug #3: Gameplay

Not sure if this is an actual bug, but after finishing the questline, whenver I speak with Gunmar, Florentius, or the breton woman (can't recall her name) they repeat the same piece of dialogue every single time. Afterwords, they resume normal dialogue and can be interacted with, but I do not think they should be repeating this end quest dialogue constantly. I may be wrong however.

I can't enter the Soul Cairn again

Spoiler
Even after I have completed the quest on the Dawnguard side, I can't enter the Soul Cairn, even as a vampire. Serana's mother implies that it should be possible even if you're not a vampire (if you enter the SC a second time), but that doesn't work. It doesn't work even when I ask Serana to turn me into a vampire

The stat that tracks the number of days you've been a vampire or werewolf increases even though you are no longer a vampire or werewolf (say you've been cured of either or switched to a different one).

I see.
I thought that it meant your M/H/S increased as the days went by.

Not sure when this happened but I'm losing the ability to summon my gargoyles in VL Form. This is not a result of the Antronach perk/standing stone glitch due to the fact I don't possess those abilites or any spell absorption for that matter.

Info on the bug: Went into a mine to try and summon them in battle and couldn't get them to summon. Tried leaving the mine in a more open area and the same thing.

Ok, this is a game breaking bug. I have experienced this non-stop on both my saved game and my girlfriends. We have deleted and re-installed the Dawnguard DLC but nothing works. This bug crashes my Xbox360 100% of the time.

Location: Dimhollow Crpyt
Setting: There is a crypt room with 4 passages leading away from it. Each passage has a gate blocking it, the gates are opened by a chain that is pulled. 3 of the passages dead end while the last leads down a corridor into a larger room. This room has waterfall to the right and a blooded vampire can be seen in the distance. A doorway is on the far wall. When entering the room, skeletons rise from the shallow lagoon in the middle of the room while the vampire charges forward to attack. When the vampire becomes engaged and comes after me, the game crashes when he uses his siphon life ability. I have tested just pulling the skeletons and this is no problem. The issue seems to happen when the blooded vampire uses on of his specials.

This needs to be fixed. I would even accept a workaround.

Thank you!

I never found this bug mentioned in the OP. I had a hard time tracking down any definitive references to it anywhere. I searched for it in vain hopes of finding a suggestion for fixing it, but these things are so new that I only managed to find a couple people talking about it. For completeness sake, I bring it up here along with a solution I found myself.

The bug is apparently some kind of state retention flaw connected to the soul drain effect you experience in the Soul Cairn. For those who haven't yet been there or seen it, when one walks within a certain distance of these giant floating soul gems, a "tentacle" of crackling energy strands descends upon your character. Inside the Soul Cairn, this is accompanied by an actual effect you can see listed in the active effects that is a continual drain on your health. The state is meant to be entered when you get too close and to end by eating those growing soul husks which are in your food items when you harvest them.

The bug is that the visual part can stick on even when you leave the Soul Cairn. I read some complaints that the actual drain continued too, but for me it was just the bundled cord of light strings, trailing off into the air above my head. I call it a state retention error because it can be turned back off. I found out how by going back to the Soul Cairn and trying to get the same thing to happen for real which my eyes said was happening but the active effects said was not. When I got close to one of the floating gems, it very clearly "activated". I ate one of those soul husks right there in front of it, and it stopped it properly. By forcing the game to go through the "on/off" cycle of the drain effect again, I got it to properly do the whole thing right.

Gameplay Bugs:
-General-
11. You can't buy the Alchemy Laboratory after buying Breezhome in whiterun.

Confirmed.
- Started a new character to try the MQ
- Made a Save before purchasing Breezehome or any upgrades
- Tried multiple times, purchasing upgrades in varied orders
- The 500 septims would be removed from my total
- But the option to purchase the Alchemy Lab simply moved to the bottom of the list and never cleared
- Tried many workarounds yet no solution found

Since installing Dawnguard, when I complete Glory of the Dead for the Companions I can't get the rest of the Circle to leave Ysgramor's Tomb or give quests - even with waiting. I've done a search for solutions to this and the problem is only occuring in Xbox 360 users and only since Dawnguard has been released; so I'm guessing the problem is only occuring with people who have installed the DLC but I haven't verified this. I don't know if it's because Aela now has been given dialogue to turn you back into a werewolf after becoming a vampire lord, but it's pretty annoying. So...

Type of Bug: Quest
Name of Quest: Glory of the Dead
Description of Bug: Circle Companions won't leave Ysgramor's Tomb unless you take them as a follower (but then with dismissal they return back to the tomb), even with waiting they remain there. They are also not available to receive quests off. These problems occur after the quest has finished.

during 5th playthuru of dawnguard:

after completing the moth priest quest for faction dawnguard. Sorine the female blacksmith inside dawnguard is hostile and attacks Sarena, Sarena does fight back of course.

Odd tho because its only Sorine that is hostile no one else of dawnguard castle.

Also during 5th playthru - Arvak when you first meet his random spawning spirit - He runs backwards in reverse around the soul carin.

Still unable to return back into soul carin if I leave.

The DLC is very nice enjoying it.
