Dawnguard Bug List #1

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 6:36 am

After completing the "Beyond Death" quest for the Dawnguard, Valerica gave me a misc. quest to find my soul gem/essence (I can't remember the exact name). After finding the gem that had my partially trapped soul (I think?), the soul drain effect from the floating soul gem/crystals follows me around everywhere, including in Skyrim. There is no effect to my stats, but it is really annoying visually. It seems to go away temporarily when I go into the werewolf beast from, but returns later.

Sorry for being in first person.

I noticed a werewolf bug that applied to me and many other players on the forums. Most NPCs act hostile to the player the instant they walk in the door. I believe the player's faction is not being reverted back to normal after leaving werewolf form. Even if I did not turn into a werewolf in front of other people, they still acted hostile after I was human again. I think the player's faction is getting stuck to hostile status even after you revert back.

FIX: I simply fixed the problem by becoming a werewolf again and letting it run its course. After I became human, my faction was correctly set to friendly.

Which quest is this part of, and is it part of the vampire quest? Dawnguard quest or a side quest?
My apologies, my glitch is a part of an unmarked side task you can do. In the Forgotten Vale, there are optional Frost Giants that are supposed to drop Paragons, that can allow access to some secret places for rare loot. As I said before, one of the giants dropped the wrong Paragon for me, and one of them isn't spawning where it is supposed to, meaning I missed out on one of the Paragons, which happens to be the one needed to get Auriel's Shield.

Durnehviir sometimes sits backwards on his word wall.

Serena doesn't follow you instantly and some times not at all when fast traveling or entering new areas.

Gunrars supply of steel has a mind of its own, as does his other items, one Mintue it's there and another it isn't, and visea versa.

Dexion reading an invisible elderscroll at the fort, after the quest where he actually does this.

Xbox freezes when fighting more than one dragon at a time.

And Revered Dragons fly extremely slow.

*upon entering the dawnguard castle i fell through the floor into the water a few times, loading the autosave fixed that

*my followers are using crossbows, but cant fire the bolts from the weapon

*Serana kept getting stuck in a cave and wouldnt come out durring a vampire hunting mission

*once after coming out of werewolf form, first person view mode button was no longer working

*when collecting your reward for a sucessful vampire hunt, the game will often freeze

this is just off the top of my head

This is confirmed after several attempts.

You can't buy the Alchemy Laboratory after buying breezhome in whiterun. When you select it to buy it, avenicci takes your money but the lab never appears, and it remains on the list of decorations to buy.

Damn disgusting for an assassin [censored] that can't do poisons in her home :(

EDITED: I forgot to mention this. I know it's related to Dawnguard because it never happened before and i did a search on google and this happened to several people as well. Here you have the source https://unofficialskyrimpatch.16bugs.com/projects/7078/bugs/209211

I've run into the problem where if Serana leaves from being my companion, I cannot regain her as a companion, nor be able to talk to her outside of her giving 1-sided sayings, like with town guards and unimportant npcs.

Inquiring about the Elder Scroll at the mage's college breaks the main questline if you had not been told by Parthunax (sorry haven't seen his name in a while) but that's known, maybe Bethesda can make a work around? Having large amounts of lag since the downloading the DLC. Also, Serena interacts with every damn thing she can get her hands on, including doors and levers that lead to Blackreach from the lifts, which cause me to be stuck in a never ending loading screen loop. If they could tune her down so shes not on crack that would be amazing.

Radiant Quest for the Dawnguard.

When you get to the traveling dignitary in solitude he will not open a dialog box, which makes it almost impossible to kill him, as you need to lure him out of the Hold.

My bug was during the fight with the Arch Curator after he lets out a huge blast I found myself on the edge of a mountain and had to jump my way down, thought it was part of the quest at first and I couldn't use the buttons to bring up a map or weapons, I ended up falling down a waterfall and ended up in the dark passage I think it was called. It was pretty weird luckily loading up a save helped

I have noticed the following issues on Xbox 360 since I have downloaded Dawnguard.

1. I cannot purchase the alchemy lab for Breezehome. (I was able to purchase the bedroom decorations but not the lab). Tried reloading, buying the stuff individually and together. Nothing worked no lab.

2. Game is crashing approximately once every hour or so, particularly on auto saves. This is a 300-400% increase in crashes since the download of DawnGuard. (This is happening on both high level and lower level characters).

3. Inability to shift between first persona and third person view on a high level character.

4. Character goes completely invisible in first person view (no weapon or shield visible).

This is all that I have noticed so far.

June 30 - New Bug

Rolled up brand new character. Entered Bleak Falls Barrow. Went to the gated area and attempted to activate the pillar puzzle pieces. They will not activate. Reloaded earlier save. Same issue. Game Breaking in that if you cannot complete Bleak Falls Barrow you cannot get dragons. Am re-downloading. Will report success or failure.

[Edited to add Bug]

I rolled the above character up from a "Prisoner, Save 1" file. I rerolled a character from "New Game" and the issue disappeared.

[Edited to add more data].

Very nice Code Man! :goodjob: This needs to be "Stickied".

I was hoping someone would start this kind of thread. It is the only essential way of organizing the problems, for the Devs and the Players. One can just review the OP in lieu of scouring an entire thread (or Forum) to know if i'ts been reported and/or confirmed.

The gracious DarkRider mantled the "Bug Index" for the Beta and done a fabulous job. Every initial report, was categorized under various headings in the OP, like you have displayed. Things separated into areas pending severity and subcategorized into AI, Gameplay, Visuals, Crashes, Dialog, Quests...etc. Each initial report was ended with a (ref) link to the original post...Again, like you have. :foodndrink:
Then, when an initial report was "confirmed" by another post or extensive testing of reloading and duplicating the bug, it was relocated into Post #2. The "Confirmed List" that basically mirrored the OP layout.

Again....Kudos! :tops:

Gameplay bug - only started when I had the DLC no problems before hand.

When I was with Serena and she says we need to go to the collage of Winterhold I get 2 walls in front of the first gate and then the main door into the collage not sure if it's a Dawnguard bug or just a Skyrim bug but thought I would post it anyway :/

Ok I know if you remove all eye, nose, forhead, etc colors you won't get the dirty face bug when becoming a vamp. But any work around for bretons face going dark when becoming a vampire. I really hate the skin color change, I wish bethesda would stop making changes to my vampies face other then teeth and eyes because the changes are always bugged . Oh ya I'm on xbox.

Just completed Soul Cairn and I've still got Arvak's Skull in my inventory, is this normal?

and yes, I've already got the summon spell.

Have you tried selling it or dropping it, this MAY be another quest items still in inventory bug... but I need more info.

3. Inability to shift between first persona and third person view on a high level character.

You sure this isn't a controller issue, seem pretty strange to effect only a high level character.

Thank you, I will break things down into more categories and stuff as the list gets bigger if needed. Also I do need to find a way to confirm these bugs... may have to do something like that.

Cursor now jumps around on the items menu when you go to sell things. I've accidently sold items I did not want to sell because the cursor jumped two-three items away instead of moving to the very next item. I know this wasn't a problem before, but whether it's a patch problem or DLC issue I can't say.

As to inability to switch between first and third person views, I only meant to say I was playing a high level character when it happened. It MAY happen on lower level characters, I just haven't seen it yet. Carmen Willow

Game Breaking in that if you cannot complete Bleak Falls Barrow you cannot get dragons. Am re-downloading. Will report success or failure.

This happens in Skyrim itself, and is not a Dawnguard issue, saving at the puzzle and reloading normally will solve the issue...

I know this wasn't a problem before, but whether it's a patch problem or DLC issue I can't say.

Hmmm this and the other issue you described seem more like a controller issue, I would like to wait to see if anyone else can confirm this... just to be safe. I'll see about checking this out myself later tonight.

I keep getting a bug when coming out of my Warewolf transformation, It keeps saying I am over encumbered when I am not. (Thanks to me having a 536lbs carry limit). This has only happend since installing Dawnguard. Although not game breaking, it does tend to get annoying.
