Dawnguard Bug List #1

I've experianced random crashes which i never had before dawnguard (sorry i can't give more description to this) and sometimes a lag which is only fixed by leaving the cell, reloading a save or turning off the system (not sure if dawnguard specific)

Random crashes and lag are not Dawnguard Specific. I've had these issues (more often) since 1.6 came out. The way I fix it is by saving, restart the console (via going to dashboard) and then restart the game and load it up. It usually fixes it.

Just finished Dragon Rising. Killed the dragon, but no guards, no dialogue about being dragon born. Just Iruleth telling me to get back to the mead hall. Never had this happen before.

BTW, I am using a controller that plugs into the box (don't like to use batteries), so we can eliminate the "weak battery" variable. I'll start using one of my other controllers and see if I am still having the issue.

If you ask Serana to wait she randomly walks off.

If you have the Shadow Swarm Perk (Whatever the ability is called that has a cloud of bats around you that feed on enemies) sometimes the sound will get stuck in a loop when you revert back to a human. *EDIT* The sound seems to be coming from Serana.. Whenever I get closer to her it gets louder.

Dawnguard give me a bounty when I transform in front of them... For crying out loud, the fact that I'm am Vampire Lord is nothing new to them, it makes no sense. The bounty they give you appears to be for a completely random city as well (Always 1k, though, for transforming).

The Dwemor Ruins "Deep Folk Crossing" is marked as a quest location and not as Dwemor Ruin. (Possibly not a bug since theres no interior exploration)

I have just finished speaking to the Jarl and have left the mead hall. When I walked to where the steps down to the marketplace should be, there is a big, big hole and the guards are dropping out of what seems to be the sky. It's all very "Alice in Wonderland." I reloaded from an autosave and the area loaded correctly. I have never had this many issues with this game before now. To this point, it's been relatively bug free for me.



Just rented a room at the inn. Inn Keeper is not showing me to my room.


I wish someone else would roll up a new character and see if they are also having issues.

i've had really weird bugs. after i finished the dawnguard quest line i found out that i was somehow both a werewolf and "normal" vampire(not lord). I can use beast form and have all the powers of a vampire/progress through the stages, but cant feed. the quest to cure vampirism will not start. any ideas for fixes?

For some reason i am getting/seeing random mannequin's in the Soul Cairn... Usually where a skeleton or whatever will pop up...
I get a 1000 bounty when the Dawnguard attack me and i kill them... Even though they attack first.... Quite annoying.


Also... The ash piles!!! My god they are everywhere!!! I am generally very worried for my save file bloating now >< also with increased group spawnrates of enemies and their weapon drops when they die, bloating is going to become a severe issue and i really REALLY hope Bethesda look into this and make it so weapons do no drop when an enemy dies!!!

1/3 times the first shot I fire from a Dragonbone Bow (As well as Arrows) that was just equipped and brought out to fire will fall short then the one immediately after it will fire like the first one should of without being pulled back at all.

Has happened around 4 times now.

This doesn't seem to be specific to Dawnguard, as I've also experienced the problem with patch 1.6 - except it was the skyforge area that was missing. Reloading did fix it. The problem seems more likely to occur on longer play sessions.

So haven't seen this listed but the bonehawk amulet it seems to turn invisible when worn for me i don't know if its cause im a vampire or not [as that seems to happen to them alot] but i've tried seeing it in 3rd person mode with only the amulet on but it was still invisible, i made a http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1390944-invisibilty-bug/ for it since i didn't see this thread before i posted this, so i suppose it should be added to the list.

On the Dawnguard side:

Immediately upon release Dexion was hostile and remained that way the entire time. I had to club him everytime before having a conversation.

I found that I could not get the quest from that high elf vampire (Vingalmo, I think; the one who sends you on a quest to embrace someone) The option "how can I help" has disapeared.

I also had problems with that moth priest when playing as a dawnguard character; he kept attaking me. As a vampire, I used seduction and bit him, which worked...yet this quest is buggy.

I also was unable to kill Isran at fort Dawnguard after I finised the dawnguard quest having sided with the vampires. You'd think that because I was playing as a vampire that I should be able to eliminate all of the enemy at their base, right? So why keep Isran essential?!?! I could kill everyone else there, but not him. Please make him unessential, but only once the dawnguard quest is complete for the vampires faction so it allows for us to doom Skyrim (perfect roleplaying, you see).

I also can't summon that undead dragon; even after I unlock the shout, I can't call him; I can say the first word, but the rest wont follow.

The floor in fort dawunguard disapeared as well.

I also found the game freezes/slows down since installing this DLC.


For the normal Skyrim game, I still can't kill the civil war camp captains from the enemy sides once the civil war quest is complete...Why? they serve no purpose whatsoever. They are the enemy, they need killing.

plus I want to be able to kill Delphine and Esbern after the main quest. I hate delphines attitude and what's to stop me killing her? Come on, everyone and I do mean EVERYONE wants her gone. I only kill Paarthunax if I play an evil character. As for my good character who sides with the greybeards, surely you can pursuade the blades to drop it (i.e I'm not killing him, so leave Paarthnuax alone!) if you speechcraft skill is high enough (say 70) and that way, they give up and continue to serve you (realising that you are not a doormat) and you can still recruit new members, plus Paarthunax lives (I found Delphine and Esbern's excuse very unholy and selfish)...otherwise, allow them to be killable once the main quest is over.

There seems to be a bug with the shout Marked For Death. The words used for the shout are different, instead of starting with the word "Krii" it uses a different word that sounds like "Ful" but I can't fully hear it. It also has a blue animation instead of the purple it should be. A shout also named Drain Vitality (not the actual Drain Vitality) also shows up with a 12 second cooldown for all three words, which does the exact same thing as Marked for Death without requiring any words to be said.

I didn't see this mentioned but I am no longer getting Kill Cam's to show up. I have two new characters I started pre Dawnguard. A level 21 female Nord werewolf who joined the Dawnguard after as soon as she heard about them through a guard. Also a level 31 male Breton who was a stage 4 vampire for months prior to becoming a vampire lord. Both of them were rocking kill cam's all the time with swords, magic, bow and arrow, etc. However ever since I took the female Nord to Soul Cairn (and killed like 80 undead) I have not seen one kill cam on either! Did this happen to anyone else?

1. I cannot purchase the alchemy lab for Breezehome. (I was able to purchase the bedroom decorations but not the lab). Tried reloading, buying the stuff individually and together. Nothing worked no lab.

2. Game is crashing approximately once every hour or so, particularly on auto saves. This is a 300-400% increase in crashes since the download of DawnGuard. (This is happening on both high level and lower level characters).

4. Character goes completely invisible in first person view (no weapon or shield visible).


I can confirm these, unfortunately.

1) A gaping great hole in the floor of Castle Volkihar Northern Tower (near the courtyard). If I jump down it I "land" back at the door.

2) Serana and Garmr diaspearred without a trace whilst following me. Have not found them using any conventional methods. This has COMPLETELY broken the MQ for me.

After installing Dawnguard, my Xbox freezes if I try to enter the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary (the original one). I've tried clearing cache, deleting DS and trying, reinstalling DS and trying, deleting old autosaves, starting from ancient saves, nothing has worked.

Two more crashes :/

First one during the DawnGuard Side quest Ancient Tenhnology retrieve dwemer exploding fire bold schem from Nchuand-zel for Sorube Jurard during one of the load screens in the ruins totally froze

second one is in darkfall caves right near the collapsible bridge I went to walk back across it while I was casting candlelight before it collapsed and the game froze on me :/

Noticed something weird um glitch in the under water passage of glacial crevice (was wearing volsung mask not sure if that matters) while swimming in the small tunnel area I seen a flash and the camera kinda freaked out for a second as my guy was pulled to the floor standing with his sword out a second later he was back swimming

I turned backed and it did it again but this time without the sword


The music that plays when you learn a new shout at the word wall in the Forgotten Vale suddenly cuts off

Major lag in Castle Volkihar during the end fight I used unrelenting force and I for a second it looked like my game was going to freeze and crash every thing froze for a few seconds and after that went into matrix bullet time mode as the vampires flew away from me

after the Castle Volkihar battle with Harkon defeated once you you travel back to the ice water jetty isran can be seen swimming in the water once on land he wont say a word if you try talking to him he just keeps walking


found a armored troll (black ) near the entrance for dayspring canyon just standing around

On the quest New Allegiances, after turning Cairine into a vampire you can get complete stuck to ground. I think its because I was seen and then paid off the guard. But it never allowed me out of the stuck to the floor state. You can move with swirl wind shout but can't turn around. Lost a days play to this :( think i'll play some other games until a patch is released

Note I tired restarting, getting arrested, reloading. everything

"5. During the quests "Rings of Blood Magic" and "Amulets of Night Power" the jewelry may never properly spawn if the location they're found in has been cleared before taking the quest."

I know the beast race eye issue has been mentioned, but i believe that nords and high elves also do not recieve the new gold glowing eyes; however, they get red ones. Kind of odd since I believe harkon is a nord and he has the gold eyes.

Also thanks for making this thread, hopefully some good stuff comes out of it. Especially the dark skin which breton and imperial males get when they become vampires. I hate when npcs comment on my pale skin and I'm darker than everyone :(

When you equip one of the Thieves Guild or Linwe Hoods on your vampire character. It will show your character with no hood equipped and you will have a huge bald spot on your head until you unequip the hood.

You know I didn't get into the beta but I though eh what the hell I'll keep track of them anyway. Here you go.

Bugs From Dawngaurd
  • Map marker for the beginning of Dawnguard quest for Fort Dawnguard is not on the proper location in the map.
  • Got to on Map will not work for Locating Sorine Jurard even though her marker is on map.
  • Texture Pixilation at Dimhollow
  • Katria’s Dialog doesn’t Innitiate when you first meet her spirit. Leaves player standing there. Only correctable by restarting game as it locks load and save.
  • Dwemer quest Relocks lifts even if Ruins previously cleared.
  • Zephyr Bow does not display in Honnyside will be thrown from wall always.
  • Frost Giant just stands there when attacked if player moves slightly back.
  • Upon Entering Forgotten Vale all summoning spells failed to work and map markers disappeared.
  • When battling dragons on Icelake mysterious bug happens that slows character down to a crawl.
  • Wayshrine priests will respeak their dialog while opening shrine.
Quest Hide and Seek
  • In Windhelm traveling pilgrim will warp and restart his pathway if he bumps into someone.
Graphic Bugs
  • Missing texture for rock underwater on South East side of Castle Vlkihar.
  • Upon Entering Fort Dawnguard first part of the floor was missing all the way through and water was showing. Clipped through map to land at entrance to repeat.
General Concerns
  • Seranna continues to get into unnecessary fights with guards when certain enemies need to be eliminated in cities.
  • Durnehviir is nearly impossible to summon at several points in the game even when the conditions of flat open ground are met.
  • Seranna not marry able even after sappy she is important to me line in confrontation scene.

Didn't see it on the list but I just noticed that circlets no longer fit Khajiit when they're vampires, not sure if that's new or not. When I'm mortal, it fits fine but as soon as I turn vampire it hovers several inches above my forehead. Tested several times to be sure.
